Roy, the owner, was in the store and came over and spoke with me, too. He wasn't pushy either. Roy ended up coming over the following weekend to measure. He was right on time. Because this was a basement, he recommended I consider a differnt carpet choice; one that was actually cheaper! Not only would that recommended carpet save me money, but he felt it would do better in a basement.
By the time Roy left with the measurement, I had already made my mind up to go with him. To me, Clawes was more interested in building a relationship with me than selling me carpet. As it turns out, their estimate was the most affordable too; an added bonus.
The installation went incredibly smoothly. The carpet looks great. My wife and I are already discussing out new flooring project for which we will certainly call Roy and his team at Clawes.
Measurement was completed within a few days to a week. An estimate was provided and the company was nice enough to lower the price a bit and upgrade the padding for free, which was very much appreciated.
The carpet was installed on the next open date and installation went smoothly. The carpet is just as I expected and has held up over the last few months.
I would recommend this company for their quality work, communication and expertise.
Excellent - couldn't have asked for a better outcome. We bought a single-family home that needed some TLC for the floors before we could move in.
The first part of our project was refinishing the heart-pine floors throughout the first floor of the house, the stairs, upstairs hall, and master bedroom. We were a little worried about losing the great color of the floors with the refinishing, but it was in desperate need of refinishing. While we had been told that you have to be careful with heart pine, we couldn't be happier with the way that the floors came out - they look great...
The second part of the project was the replacement of the carpet throughout the house. There was actually carpet in the master bedroom that came out when refinishing the floors, as we preferred to have just hardwood in the master. There was also carpet in the master bath (?? No explaining some things...) which we had them remove and replace with some basic tile to hold us over until we get to re-doing our master bath. They replaced the rest of the carpets - in the other bedrooms, closets, and stairs to the basement - with a great wool carpet. We also had them install a runner on the stairs and the upstairs hall which looks fantastic.
The last part of the project was the removal of the carpet in the basement. We didn't have anything reinstalled right away, as we wanted to make sure some reported leaking had truly been fixed before investing in carpets, and had a couple of other projects to knock out first. We will certainly go back to them when we are ready to get the carpet reinstalled in the basement, and would recommend the company to anyone.
"No work/record of customer found anywhere. We pride ourselves on having excellent products at excellent prices. We would have worked at getting same or better quality products at a more competitive quote ."
Clawes was a delight to work with. I contacted Clawes originally through a form on the Website, but didn't receive a response so after a couple weeks I called them. They were very apologetic- they check the online box every day but apparently something wasn't working. We scheduled a time for Roy to come out for an estimate and he arrived ON TIME! I wanted to finish out the hardwood floors upstairs in the three bedrooms, tying into the hardwood already in the hallway.
I had to postpone the purchase for a month or two, but when I did move forward, there was an additional $200 manufacturer discount they made me aware of and I was able to get. They did have to reschedule the original install but it was OK because they were able to reschedule for a convenient time. The installers moved everything installed the floor in lightning speed. They did a beautiful job.
When I called to pay the remaining balance, I learned that Roy had ordered a whlole extra box of wood at no additional cost to me because he wanted to make sure they had enough to replace the tie-in wood in the hall so the look would be seamless. I was delighted. I now have an extra box to use in case something gets damaged or I decide to do the stairs.
Everyone was helpful, did what they said they would do it when they said they would, took pride in their work and went above and beyond to make it a good experience. They are at the top of my list for future flooring needs.
We were looking for a wide-plank, matte, naturally oiled hardwood floors that are only now becoming popular in the US and very few stores carry them. In DC area we found exactly 2 providers, Clawes being one of them. We had 4 companies (all top rated on Angie?s List) come out to take measurements and provide pricing and Clawes beat the next lowest by over 2K and some of them quoted us more than 10K more than Clawes did. The installation itself was impeccable even considering our very non-traditional condo layout ? there is not a single straight corner in the unit as the building is shaped as a semi-circle. Clawes installers were able to get the angle of wood just right to accommodate for the strange shapes of each room yet keep it coherent throughout.
I have to say special ?thanks? to Katherine for answering my millions of questions about the naturally oiled floor type; and to Roy for going above and beyond to accommodate our schedule for installation and to adjust it at such short notice. We already used Clawes services again to purchase tile for the small entry area and we will use them again next year when we change the kitchen floors.
PS: I saw some negative reviews about carpet installation. It is a different crew than the one used for hardwood installation. All the guys I had to deal with were very nice, professional, prompt and attentive to details.
"Hey there! It was a pleasure working with you. The floors look GREAT! We really appreciate the feedback and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions. Best, Katherine"
Work went smoothly - three men who were there for approximately 8-1/2 hours. Very courteous and friendly.
Complaints:
There was some minimal damage done that we did not notice before their departure: They had removed one of the air vent covers from the floor of one of the bedrooms in order to lay the carpet around the vent. After they departed, we noticed the vent was making some very loud noise so we removed it and found that it had been broken/bent. So not only had they broken it, but they had put it back without saying anything about it.
One of the bedside dressers in the master bedroom had several scratch marks on the top surface that were not there before. I believe they probably put the other bedside dresser on top of the other when they move the furniture to lay the carpet and did not use furniture padding between the furniture pieces. I did not see what they did but I would highly recommend that they bring furniture padding when they do installations since they most likely will have to pile furniture out of the way. The table is not new nor in the best of shape but a better practice would be to bring padding.
They did not clean off the driveway very well before they departed. We had to go back out and hose down the entire driveway due to small carpet pieces that were spread around the driveway and walkway.
At this time we are very happy with the product itself and at this point would consider using Clawes again but I do believe these kind of complaints could very easily be avoided.
The flooring fellows came out and put down a new sub-floor and the vinyl. I understand that manipulating sheet vinyl is difficult process and that it takes skilled professionals to do it. These folks were certainly that. The results are beautiful, new floors in my bathrooms and kitchen. The new sub-floors and vinyl made the floors sturdier and reduced/eliminated the floor squeeks that plagued us.
Recommend Clawes! Can't praise them enough!
