Building By Design, Inc. (BBD) is a home remodeling company that focuses on complete kitchen, bath and basement renovations. The owner, Jim Ferugio, is a graduate of Virginia Tech and was a full-scholarship athlete of the Hokies Football Team. His athletic achievements demonstrate his work ethic, dedication and commitment. Whether it be a large kitchen or bathroom renovation, or a small handyman job, Jim is there to ensure the job is completed to your satisfaction. Fabulous! Bathrooms are stunning. Master bath was enlarged to accommodate double sinks. It turned out better than envisioned. Jim selected materials to choose from after I told him my color scheme (grey, white & black). His expertise made the process so easy and resulted in a modern look that was perfect. I love my new bathrooms! Thank you Jim, Mike & Jose.

Building By Design provided excellent and professional service while finishing a bedroom in the basement if our home. They were always on time and the project was finished on schedule. The owner, Jim, is very down to earth and was engaged throughout the construction process and came by often to ensure the work was being done properly. Jim was very helpful in finalizing our initial design for our small-ish kitchen remodel, and executed the work with an eye for detail and ahead of schedule. He convinced us to spend a few more dollars on removing a wall, and we are super happy we did. We found his cabinet options a great balance between price and quality given we were not interested in creating a "dream kitchen". As expected in a 50+ year old house, we discovered a few surprises along the way and Jim gave us good options to balance making things right and minimize our unexpected costs. In the end we are very pleased with the results. Jim's team was great to work with.

Quality work throughout. Jim came up with creative solutions to some challenges with our house. He broke a huge project into smaller pieces so we could get to our long-term goal (enlarging our master bath). This involved removing a fireplace insert and flue that went through the master bath and roof. Jim's standards for quality are high. Construction is always done to code or higher - he insisted on a higher level of sealant for our shower than what building code requires as he knew we had water issues previously. I ask a lot of questions on how and why things work or are constructed. Jim patiently explained everything. He's very responsive to client concerns. We have referred him to several friends who have been pleased with his work and have hired him for subsequent projects as well.

Jim and his team were a pleasure to work with. He helped us every step of the way and provided his professional opinion...making the process less intimidating and scary. We had never gone through a remodel before and were overwhelmed by the process and all of the options but Jim was like family! Jim and his team were so easy to work with. Jim answered all texts and inquiries promptly. His outstanding team showed up on time every morning and fully cleaned up before they left for the day. They were so easy to work with! Our bathroom came out wonderfully. Jim made many excellent suggestions along the way. We were very happy with all the decisions that were made. We would definitely use him and his team again for future projects in our home.

Outstanding; I was rather put off by a contractor I was using that was hesitant to undertake the needed repairs. Building by Design was recommended by a neighbor who is also a contractor. Once contact Jim and his crew did everything "right". He assessed the situation, explained what needed to be done, provided a couple of potential options (best/worst case scenarios) to assist the decision making process and effected the repairs (as well as some other lingering issues) in a thorough and professional manner. He showed up when he was suppose to, did what he said he would do, all while being a real pleasure to work with. He is first on my list to call if I need additional work.

From the moment I met Jim Ferugio, I knew I didn't need to look further for a contractor. His trade, skills and business knowledge continue to impress me. Both our jobs were on time and on budget. We trusted Jim and his crew totally. During the remodel we had to be out of town for a week. There was no question of trust. We gave home the keys to the house with no worries. Wish we had known Jim when we had our bathrooms remodeled. I opened my house up to neighbors to show off the work done By Building By Design I was that pleased.

Overall very well. Quality is excellent and the "wow factor" of the new bathroom gets us a lot of compliments. Contractor preference was to provide all materials, but we opted to purchase our own tile.

Every job was done really well. The ceiling, drywall repair, was so well done my wife really liooked hard and could not find where the work had been done. The condo rework was a lot of work, but all of it was perfect. We have been very very pleased with their work.

Jim and his crew did a great job! I was nervous about embarking on such a huge undertaking. Jim came over several times to do walk throughs, take measurements, and go over ideas. He was responsive the many times I changed my mind, and gave amazing recommendations when I couldn’t make up my mind. He put everything in writing, drew up 3D mock ups, and his crew worked quickly and took great care when working in our house. No job is too big or too small. Most of all, Jim and his crew were friendly and honest. I highly recommend BBD for any job you may be thinking of!

Jim and his crew hit the trifecta of project management -- they were on-time, on-schedule, and on budget. They flawlessly executed the ripping-out of my old kitchen, upgraded plumbing and electrical, installed flooring & painted walls, upgraded lighting, supervised counter installation, and installed custom cabinets.
