Estimator came when he said that he would. I thought that he was really too high. I did not like the attitude of telling me that I could call others but they would not give me the service that I would get from this company. I do not like the bashing of others and I felt a little rushed to make a decision.

Danny called the night before and said his crew would be here a 8:15 a.m.  They were.  On the dot.  The crew rolled in with a cherry picker, a chipper, several guys armed with climbing gear, chainsaws and ropes.  They said good morning, confirmed which trees they were to work on and went to work.
I was completely impressed.  They climbed some really big maples, took out all the dead limbs, trimmed branches that weren't needed, opened up the canopies to the wind and shaped the trees.  The smaller trees were trimmed and shaped while the dying tree was cut down.
They chipped all the limbs, raked the yard, took a blower to the driveway and were gone by 11:30  They put back the lawn furniture they moved, hung up my chimes, and reset my wind sculptures.
No complaints about their work and they educated me as they went, explaining why certain limbs were removed and the science of long-term tree care.  I learned a lot and I also learned what to look for if a tree starts having problems.
I'd use these guys again in an instant.  Hats off to Danny and crew!

Even though they had worked at my property last year, they used GPS and went to a wrong address. They did not start work until 10 AM, took about 45 minutes in lunch and work breaks, and quit at 5 PM for a work day of 6 1/4 hours. I suspect that the quote for this job would have been in this range anyway.
I watched most of the process because I have flower beds, a chicken coop, and a large storage building that I was trying to protect by removing these old pine trees. Many of the trees were leaning toward the building and two were overhanging it. There was minimal (and acceptable) damage to the flower bed, some ground damage from heavy equipment to, and NO damage whatsoever to building structures.
The cleanup was thorough and there is very little I have to do to restore the area to its former condition. They use heavy equipment, which makes for quality work done quickly, but one must be able to tolerate the damage that heavy equipment does. In this case, I would say the damage was minimal.
I could not have been more impressed with how skillful this crew was in removing these trees!!! I would give them A+++ ratings for quality and professionalism and this is the reason I hired them again to do this large job.
There are many tree service companies in this area that one could hire to cut up downed trees, etc., but, if you want quality work and are willing to pay for it, Mason's is the way to go.

He did cut down trees. But left a $5000.00 mess behind. He threw limbs into the creek and the grounds are in serious condition. Called two other tree services for estimates on cleaning up Masons mess. Estimates were $5000.00. Talked to Mason one time after the and quot;joband quot; and he said for extra money he would clean up. From then on he wouldn't take my calls. He left my property with $6-7000.00 worth of trees in his truck!

The overall experience was great. I had Bill come out to give an estimate on a Tuesday. He quoted me a price, and then recommended a day rate that was more suitable to the amount of work I wanted done, essentially giving me more bang for buck. Two weeks later I had him come out again on another Tuesday 7/8 to finalize the plan. He had stated that it would take a few days for someone to call to make an appointment, and that the soonest they could come out would be 10 days (7/18). The only reason I give a B for responsiveness was that I had to initiate contact the following Monday (7/14) to see when I could get scheduled. After some back and forth, Mr. Mason did get me in on Friday 7/18, upholding the original statement, so in the end it worked out. I chalk it up to just a busy time of the year. As far as the specific work, I took two short breaks during my workday on friday 7/18 to come out in the morning and afternoon to check on the work. In the morning they were almost finished with the backyard, and Eric gave me an option to prune an additional tree that was over 150 feet. He stated it was leaning badly and should be addressed,
which did not gain them any extra money since I was paying a flat rate anyway. I appreciate this in a business, and took him up on the offer. Furthermore, he was very honest in stating that if we did this, they may not be able to clean up the debris in the yard, but he recommended it to give the tree some extra life and stability, and if I wanted a clean yard they could skip the tree, but wanted to give me the options. I chose to tackle the clean up myself, get more bang for my buck, and the crew took care of most of the large trees. The remaining debris consisted of limbs and chopped up trunks no greater than 8 feet long and 2-3 feet wide that I was able to have people haul away the next day for free via craigslist. After all was said and done, they pruned at least a dozen trees, chopped up half, and topped a giant one not even on my radar. The crew was friendly, respectful, and I would hire these people again in a heartbeat. Excellent service.

Two tall trees were in my backyard, one of them brushing up against the roof of the house when the wind would blow. A call to Danny got his representative to come out promptly and give me an estimate. At first I just wanted an overhanging branch removed from one tree, but when the representative discovered evidence of both trees dying (and because both were located on an incline behind the house, relatively inaccessible to reach) I decided it was more cost effective to have them both removed immediately, before new construction nearby made them less accessible. I also had the tree stumps ground.
Danny's crew showed up when scheduled and, despite freezing temperatures in the single digits, they immediately went right to work.. The two trees were dropped within the first half-hour and the removal was completed within just a few hours of the crew's arrival. (The two stumps were ground the next day by a separate crew).

They arrived ar 8:30 as promised and completed the work before noon. The had two bucket trucks, a chipper and a tractor with a crew of ten. They felled the trees and limbs, chipped the smaller ones and cut all the larger ones into 18 inch lengths. They were very professional and fast.

I chose Mason's based on their Angie's List listing. An estimator came out promptly and gave me a reasonable estimate. He explained that my trees would be taken down on their way from their home base to Smith Mountain Lake for a big job their. He also explained that rain would disrupt any timetable for doing the work. Midway through a heavy rainy period, someone from Mason's called to leave a message explaining that their work was delayed by the rain but that all contracts would be honored. It surprised (and reassured) me that they considered the work order to be a contract that they were bound to honor.
I got four hours notice that they wanted to come out to do the work and they apologized for the short notice. They arrived somewhat later than scheduled, but completed the work that afternoon. They were especially careful around power and water lines and did no damage to a flower garden that contained one of the large pine trees. The cleanup was thorough and I am extremely satisfied with result. The crew leader, Darryl, sounds exactly like George Strait.

This firm is a professional tree removal service. They have the proper equipment and experienced professionals to get the job done. They removed the trees completely and quickly. They delayed the start time several times, by several days. This made it difficult to schedule our time. Access to the damaged trees was difficult for the heavy equipment required to remove the trees. They needed to go down hill and between our house and the neighbors house. This repeated trip resulted in rather deep ruts in the ground and some damage to the rip rap on the neighbors property. It is going to cost us $350 (with another firm) to make these repairs. Bottom line -- great tree removal capability, but care and repair of the grounds to get to the trees was disappointing.

The storm that came thru on Thursday, 6/13/13 took down a large red oak tree in my yard. Danny had his crew on the job Monday,6/17/13 and got every thing cleaned up and the stump removed even sooner than he said he would. He did a great job.

Workers came and used some wonderful equipment to take half of the tree out of the woods and cut up the good wood into 8 foot lengths. They cleaned up all the mess and left me with the chips. A good job, if a little pricey.

Estimate covered the removal of over 20 trees, trimming branches, and all associated work to remove and clean up the property.
Their estimate was way over our budget and that is the only reason we did not hire them.
The representative was very knowledgeable and prompt. Spent a good hour with us explaining their service and giving us advice on the work to be done.

When I called for an estimate, they called back the same day, scheduled a time convenient for both of us, showed up on time, and gave a fair estimate. I always forget how expensive it is to have trees trimmed or felled, but it was a fair price. Instead of removing a tree, Bill suggested that the tree be trimmed out and get the top that had snapped during the storm and was laying in another tree. Since we had other trees that needed some care we ended up having four trees trimmed. The crew showed up on time and my husband said that they were very professional and cleaned up the area quickly and completely.
One tree seems to be rotting from the top down and I didn't know what they had determined upon a closer look. I called Bill and he told me that Danny would call me back that night or talk to me the next morning. Since they had left their truck parked in our drive (with our permission since they had a job up the street the next day) I was able to get my questions answered the next day.
We chose Danny Mason for several reasons. One, they actually called back to make an appointment. Two, I watched them take down a tree at a neighbor's house and saw how well they did the complete job. While living in a different state, we had trees removed and the climber cut his own rope with his chain saw. Since then we are very cautious of who we hire to remove trees. Danny Mason's crew knew what they were doing. And three, they had good recommendations on Angie's List.
We will hire Danny Mason when we decide to have other trees on the property trimmed up or removed.

He came when he said he was coming, finished the job, and did good cleanup. We were very, very pleased with the price. It was affordable. He came and he got the job done. He brought enough equipment and enough people. It was a two day job, but he removed a lot of large trees for us. It was a great cleanup. No debris left or anything like that. We would definitely use him again in the future.

First visit was in January of 2011. His crew removed 5 trees and ground the stumps at a great price. Arrived on the day promised and completed the work in two days. Damages my wooden fence and had it fixed in two weeks. Very impressed with the price, work, and clean up from the first visit, that my wife decided to remove more trees. Due to and quot;emergentand quot; work, it took his crew seven weeks and multiple work day postponements. The crew damaged my chain link fence on the first tree dropped that second visit. The crew leader was very apologetic and promised he would fix it. The remainder of the job went off without a hitch. After a month of waiting for the guy to come back and fix the fence, i called Danny to remind him. Have called twice more (yes, i am very patient) and still have a broken fence after 5 months.

Danny is a fantastic guy with more then a fair price for his work. Unless you have an emergency do not expect speedy service (which was OK for my needs). Highly disappointed that my fence is still not fixed.
