American Design (Craig Lemieux) Fraud
Mr. Lemieux presented a contract to us with a total price of $8,000 with a start date of July 15th, 2014 and a completion date of July 30, 2014. He told us that in order to begin the project he would need half of the total price. We gave Mr. Lemieux a check for $4,000. The date the work was to begin Mr. Lemieux did not arrive, nor the day after. My husband called and he reassured us that he had a project that ran over and would start later on in the week. My husband and I arrived home one day to find all the screens taken off our windows and left in our back yard. There was also a ladder left on our deck. A couple days passed and we heard nothing from Mr. Lemieux. My husband and myself attempted to contact Mr. Lemieux repeatedly for 2 days and he didn't answer the phone or respond to our emails. My husband arrived home one day to find Mr. Lemieux supposedly"working" on our house and Mr. Lemieux stated that his phone was broke and apologized for the inconvenience and also said he had another project that run over. Mr. Lemieux informed us that he would be starting soon and should still be finished with all the work by July 30th.
On August 4th, 2014 no work had yet to be started besides the removal of our window screens. Mr. Lemieux explained again that he would be starting soon and explained that an HOA he works for needed him for some emergency work. August 13th the project still was not started and my husband explained to Mr. Lemieux that we would need our money back. Mr. Lemieux promised us that he would be starting that week and had to get off the phone abruptly because he was supposedly being pulled over by the police for not wearing a seatbelt. On August 8th, Mr. Lemieux pulled up to our home and sat in the driveway. My husband and I watched him walk down our driveway and leave 2 paint cans and some caulking material in front of our garage. We assumed he would be starting the work but Mr. Lemieux got in his car and left our home. August 13th, no work had begun and I called Mr. Lemieux and told him we needed our money back. He came to our house that evening and gave us several reasons for not starting the project including his truck breaking and more projects running over. He informed us that the painting portion of our home would be completed by Saturday August 16th. August 15th, Mr. Lemieux came to our house and moved the paint cans to the other side of the garage and taped 1 window. Saturday August 16th I called Mr. Lemieux and he said he was on the way to our home. At approximately 2:00 PM that day, Mr. Lemieux informed us that he could not do anything because his truck broke again. My husband and I demanded our money back and he started crying and said he "messed up this time", "Paid a $1500 deposit for the gazebo material", and "spent the remainder of our deposit on his other projects" and therefore could not give us our money back at that time. He agreed to pay us back our deposit in increments of $500 each week until the balance was paid back over 60 days. We have yet to receive our money back. Now we are in the process of hiring a lawyer and filing a police report against Mr. Lemieux. We found that Mr. Lemieux has had several criminal and civil cases filed against him, including construction fraud. Hopefully we will get our money back and Mr. Lemieux will be persecuted for his crimes.

Craig Lemieux signed a contract back in April for work to be done in our
front yard. He took a deposit of $2,100.00 and promised to complete
the work (signed contract) by the end of June 2013. He came by to do
some other odd jobs (acceptable work) and kept promising to complete the
other landscaping/sidewalk repair work but has not delivered. We sent a
letter demanding return of the $2,100.00 deposit and received no
response. Phone calls have gone unanswered and email address gets
non-delivery errors.

Came within an hour of my calling him to review the job. It was a rainy day and the siding to be reattached was on a very steep part of my roof and it would not have been safe to work, so he said he would return the next day to do the actual work. He returned as promised and completed the work. The job turned out to be more difficult than originally thought because of the way my house was constructed. In the end he actually had to glue the pieces together as he reinstalled them. He took his time to make sure he did a good job.
I will use him in the future, as needed.
