Description of Work: RS Andrews installed our brand new system 12 years ago. They had the best estimate and did quality work. The equipment they recommended, American Standard, has been substandard. We spend between $200 and $600 per year to keep the equipment operational. I would never purchase American Standard again. We are questioning whether to replace the cooling units, even though we were assured they would last 20 years or more. This year, the smaller 1.5 ton unit was not cooling. RS Andrews came out and "charged" the system with coolant. The service call and the coolant cost nearly $300. They added dye to the system and recommended coming back in two weeks to identify the leak. They came back two weeks later to check for a leak. They could not find a leak, and charged us over $150 for the visit. We paid it. Within 2 hours after the technician left, (after checking for the leak), the same unit would not cool. We called them back, and they wanted to charge us another $150 for a service call, even though the technician CLEARLY did something to the unit to cause it to malfunction. RS Andrews refused to recognize that the technician caused the malfunction, even though it was working well up until he came back to search for a leak. We argued that the technician caused the problem, and we are disputing two service calls within two hours. We will not be using RS Andrews for anything in the future. They have deteriorated from a reputable, reliable company, into the above. The unit still does not cool efficiently. We are using a Angie's List recommended company instead of RS Andrews.

As you stated your systems are 12 years old and the industry standard for considering replacement is anything over 10 years old. Beyond that it is standard to expect repairs to be necessary. When we came out to service your unit that was not running it was significantly low on freon. When a system is more than 2 pounds low it is recommended to perform a leak search to prevent a leak from continuing and causing failure to costly components like compressors. This was done with your approval. We did not find a leak, which is sometimes the case. Unfortunately, in these times people have had systems go low on freon only to find that freon is being stolen from their systems which could be the case with your system. We offer services designed to minimize damages and consequent repair to your system. RS Andrews is in fact an Angie's List recommended company and is a reputable, reliable company that stands behind the work done for our customers. You stated that "CLEARLY" the tech did something for the system to not cool. When our tech returned to identify the problem, there wasn't one. The house had grown warm while the system was turned off so that our tech could do the leak search. This was explained to you and you in fact were NOT charged for an emergency return visit on the SAME DAY (not sure how we could be more reliable). We agreed to not charge you for the return visit as a courtesy and did so before your complaint here on Angie's list. We have and will continue to be more than fair when dealing with our customers. We are sorry that things did not go the way you would like for them to regarding your system, but we did not do any wrong to you.
