I want to add that I use to own a Volvo and started taking it to Auto Teknika in 1988 for service and thereafter until I sold it in 2013.
So, I feel I know them well after trusting them to repair my car for 25 years! I probably kept the car longer than I should have because they were so easy to work with.
I now own a car model that has to go to it's Dealer for service and I really miss going to Auto Teknika for my service so, I went back to get my car inspected by them instead of the Dealer. It was a much better experience that going to the Dealer.
I highly recommend them for those autos that they specialize in for repairs.
"We're confused..Your text is complementary and you say you'd hire us again, but our letter grades are all Fs and Ds."
and quot;Integrityand quot; and and quot;competenceand quot; are the two words that best capture this shop. If you have a European car, you will find no better shop anywhere. Adrian and his staff are honest about what you need and what you can postpone; they diagnose problems and find solutions; they are straightforward and truthful when things go wrong (e.g. parts don't come in or the wrong part was sent, or the service will take longer than anticipated) and don't make the lame excuses that are so common in this field. when they return the car to you, it is truly serviced.
But--if you're expecting a lot of bedside manner, and needless amenities that dealerships lay on to justify their high prices, this is not the place for you. The staff at Auto Teknica are fair and transparent; but they won't flatter you. At the same time, they will explain issues clearly and thoughtfully, and give you honest estimates of both cost and time.
I've only had used cars, and have always had them well-serviced here. I'd recommend them without reservation.
The only coveat is that apparently the owner has been burned a number of times in past, and they have a lot of and quot;we don't do thatand quot; rules that seems to cover their a##. Not much in the way of personality, but hey, if they fix my car right, I can live without the hug!
"Fair enough. There's always room for improvement in the bed-side-manner department. But we are glad you are satisfied with our core practice of servicing your BMW."
Benz/BMW/Audi owners prepare yourself, the building exterior will not dazzle you. Nor will the 'waiting room'. But the low key, competent nature of the founder/owner reassures one. And, we are told, they have the latest in diagnostic equipment - which is important because no matter where you take your car for repairs, you pay for the time spent determining the nature of the problem.
Also of note ... Auto Teknika takes the approach of many independent German car shops in that they will repair what needs replacing - and not arbitrarily replace parts before their time. The MB dealerships and quot;go by the bookand quot; and while that is 'safe' it is often overkill and of course very expensive. So if you need new air filters, but don't want a full tune up, you might try Auto Teknika.
The basic VA inspection went off without a hitch, and we will try these gentlemen again. For starters with the periodic 10,000 mile service, and maybe some new struts, and then report back to Angie's List. We plan on keeping this car for a long time, so we need a MB shop we can afford. For now we trust Auto Teknika. Stay tuned.
