Where do I begin with this company? Unfortunately, I had no choice of who my HVAC vendor was due to AHS warranty. I bought a new(to me) condo on 6/2/16 and was having issues with the A/C. United Air Temp initially arrived on Tuesday, 6/14/16 to diagnose / repair the issue. The tech did not look at my indoor wall unit at all on the first visit. He stated, before filling, that I was 3 pounds low on refrigerant. I have confirmed with several friends in the HVAC business that there is absolutely no way of knowing how low the system is on refrigerant until after it's charged and the refrigerant is weighed. The tech even stated that it did not take 3 pounds. Issue number 1. I was charged $335 for this service. A sound has also since developed from my bedroom wall that sounds like water rushing through every time the A/C is on. A/C does still not cool my condo. Reschedule for service through AHS and same tech is scheduled to come out on 6/16/16.
On the second visit, the tech finally opened the wall unit in my condo to have a look. I also told him about the noise that had developed in the wall and he said it was normal. He determined that the heater coil was still hot from the aqua thermal system that is in my condo and the cool air was being heated before entering the ducting. He turned the shut-off valve off for the heater loop at the water heater to try to prevent hot water from reaching the heater coil. As the system sat idle with the valve closed, the temperature still continued to rise in the heater coil. He suggested that I drain the coil since his flex-hose had been damaged several days prior. He then suggested that I could use the drain hose that he remembered seeing from my water heater. I ran down from my loft, where my wall-unit is, to grab the 3-4 ft hose from my water heater closet. The hose was hooked up to the spigot on the heater coil and the tech placed the end of the hose into the drain pain in the bottom of the wall unit since the tech stated that would be more convenient than draining into buckets. I was there giving the tech a hand. While he held the hose, I turned on the spigot at his direction. He was watching the water flow while I asked if the flow was too hard or soft. He said all was good. As it was draining into the drain pan, I hear a sound coming from downstairs. Water is coming out of the kitchen ceiling in my new condo(See here: [*** Link removed ***] I asked the tech if there was a fault with my drain, and he said no, it had just been overflowing. He continued to drain into the drain pan after he turned down the flow of the water so that it stopped leaking. I was in the kitchen dealing with the mess. The water seemed to never stop draining, but the tech turned it off eventually and said I needed to call a plumber to look at the water heater. He said he would contact AHS since I wouldn't know what to tell them was wrong. I asked about my drywall, he said he would ask AHS about that, too.
After this was done, it appears my A/C is working. However, the sound is still coming from the wall and my hot water is almost non-existent. I have to turn the heat up on my faucet to get somewhat warm water.
I called AHS on Friday afternoon, 6/17/16 since I hadn't heard anything. They said they had not received any calls. I also never heard back from anyone about the water damage to my drywall. I left the United Air Temp service manager, Mark W, a VM on Friday.. Mark called me back this afternoon and I explained the issues I had. First issue, he said that the outdoor unit tells you how much refrigerant it needs, so what they filled and charged me was accurate. I have verified that this is false information. Issue two, since I was the one who physically turned the drain spigot at the direction of the tech, it is my fault and they will not cover the drywall damage in my condo. And since apparently this is something that should have been done by a plumber(but still done by their tech), this is not their fault. Mark still failed to accept responsibility for the damage to my condo and blamed it on me.
At the end of the day, I have semi-working A/C, a loud noise that comes from my wall, damaged drywall, and out $335. I would strongly advise against doing any business with this joke of a company.
