"The downspout that this customer is complaining about is only a downspout that was retightened; we did not replace. The downspout is very old and is adhered to old cedar shakes that have broken the reason it has separated. He was told that this would not be a permanent solution. We warranty work that we actually do such as the gutters that we replaced on the rear bump out. Since June of 2011, we have had an earthquake, hurricane and tremendous amounts of rain last fall and any of these could have damaged the downspout. We told the customer that we would be glad to come out and replace the downspout and the bracket for our repair fee however the way that it is adhered to the rotten cedar shakes there is no guarantee that it will actually stay. We do not warranty our repairs and this is stated on the contract that this customer admits he cannot find. This is not a warranty issue."
"When we spoke to the customer regarding her repair that was done 3 years ago she said she was unaware that the repair was not covered under warranty. All of her paperwork that she was provided indicates that we do not warranty repairs. Her repair was done in Dec 2008 for $625 not $500; the work was done in Reston not Arlington on a 1970's house not a 1927 house. Angie's List verified that the customer has to type in the information when filing a complaint so clearly the information on this complain is inaccurate. For a repair to last 3 years is actually quite good. Most companies do not warranty repairs because the repair is not expected to fix the problem long term."
"When the customer called in to schedule an appointment for a siding estimate she indicated that she did not own the home yet and that she needed this quote for negotiation purposes. The scheduler politely told her that our policy at Katchmark is that we do not go out and give estimates unless you own the home. She was not very happy with that response. She sent an email to the sales manager which she replied by offering her a compromise that we would charge a $475 fee for the estimate and then if she decided to go with Katchmark that money would be credited back to her. We felt this was a win/win situation for both parties. We received no response however saw the post on Angie's List the next morning. We are very sorry this person was not happy with Katchmark's policy but we have been in business over 22 years with very high ratings and positive feedback. We are still willing to work with this customer if she decides she wants to do business with us."
"Katchmark Construction Inc. has been in business for over 22 years. Given the number of customers we have served and the excellent ratings we have received, we regret that this customer misunderstood Katchmark's policies and the way we do business. Due to Hurricane Irene, an earthquake and a tropical storm that occurred all within a 3 week period, we had an enormous influx of calls. Our call volume was far greater than normal and this forced us to schedule appointments beyond our normal one week lead time. Our Preventative Roof Maintenance Program states that the estimates start at $475 and increases depending on the size and condition of the roof. Once our consultant arrived, he knew right away that without assistance he was not going to be able to get on the roof given how steep it was (9/12 pitch). At that time he informed the customer that it would be at least $750. In addition, we also never guarantee that work will be done the same day as the initial appointment because we don't really know what needs to be done. In this case, her description "steep" over the phone was not anywhere near what the consultant encountered once he got to the house. The consultant was very polite and told the customer she was welcome to get other estimates and go with another company but we would not be able to do the work she needed for any less. It is not our policy to make "promises" to customers without the consultant first assessing the situation. We appreciate you reading our reviews and in doing so you will find that the customers that we have serviced have had many more positive experiences than negative."
