Using Angie's List and researching movers, we finally decided on Carmack Moving and Storage in June 2017 for our cross-country move. Founder Rob Carmack impressed us with his many years' experience and expertise--as well as his affable personality. The enthusiastic reviews of Carmack further gave us confidence that they could do the job. We did most of the packing but left dishes, delicate items, and framed pictures to the Carmack crew, who packed those items and then hauled everything to a weigh station (almost 10,000 pounds) and then stored it all at Carmack's Sterling warehouse. This was mid-August. We putting our McLean home on the market in September and selling it within a couple of months. Unfortunately it didn't go on the market until October and sold only in February and thus we wound up paying $540/month storage for 8 months rather than two. Once our home finally sold, we bought a home here in northern California and contacted Rob about bringing our things out of storage. We waited until we closed on April 12 to do so, and our belongings (almost 10,000 lbs) were delivered to Walnut Creek, CA, on May 12. The driver Demond and his crew were professional, helpful, and pleasant, which was also our experience in McLean with driver Kirk and his crew there. Throughout our months of working with the Carmack office, Sharon and Starla were fabulous and Rob was available to speak by cell phone whenever we needed him. As mentioned above Carmack's Virginia crew packed our delicate, breakable items, including valued clay pieces and valuable glass framed pictures, and two glass-framed photo collages. The thin glass on those two collages broke in transit. But they were cheap and we don't fault Carmack for that.In fact, this is a heads-up to others who have such collages. On the other hand we had a 14-inch high ceramic sculpture that had once broken into a dozen pieces and been glued back together. Carmack crew wrapped and packed it well and it arrived intact.

It went great. I called the company expecting I needed a larger package deal, and was told that the men were used to hauling large objects, and it wasn't going to require as many men or as much time as I thought to transport the furniture for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom home. After pointing me to a lower priced option that would meet my needs, I payed the deal price, which was around $800 to have four men for two hours. Sure enough, they showed up, quickly and efficiently removed the furniture from my apartment in under an hour, and then quickly and efficiently, and with care, moved it into my new home, placing it where I liked. This was a wonderful service, and honestly the best and easiest part of the moving experience. I would definitely recommend this company and hire them again.

As a former military family we've had our share of moves. This last one was, hands down, the best. Debbie is a superstar, highly responsive, personable, and her estimate was nearly perfect. This is the first time I've ever had the same crew pack and then move; it made a difference. They happily used boxes I already had, saving me a ton of $$. They also moved boxes I had packed without complaint. I can not say enough good things about them!

I got Carmack as a recommendation and saw they received an A+ from BBB. I had found three different moving companies I had planned to call and get quotes from and Carmack was first on the list. I never made the other calls. I was impressed from the get-go with Debbie. We were able to change our move date last minute since our house wasn’t ready when we expected. I also spoke with Starla many times and she was amazing. Our moving crew was wonderful and went above and beyond my high expectations. Rafael was the head guy and the crew worked efficiently and were friendly. To top it off, Rafael accidentally took our house key when he left. He realized it after he was home and brought it all the way back to our house even though I told him he could mail it to us. When we move again we will definitely be calling Carmack!

Since we lived so far from the company, Debbie did our estimate over the phone. She had me walk the house and list everything that would be moving. Her estimate ended up being a bit higher than the actual cost of the move. The refund was processed quickly. Everyone at the company has been excellent to deal with. The moving crew arrived on time and were very professional. They worked quickly, safely wrapping and loading all of our furniture and boxes. The delivery arrived on time. Everything was as loaded. We would definitely use this company again and recommend them to family and friends.

Very well. Five-man crew arrived on time. Foreman inventoried all contents. All furnishings wrapped in blankets and/or plastic wrap as appropriate. The house itself was protected. The entire job was completed in less than 4 hours. One factor I considered in selecting Carmack was that they load directly into storage crates on site. Other companies I considered move into the truck, then off load the truck into crates at the warehouse. In my opinion, double the handling doubles the possibility of damage.

The Carmack team of movers were nice and professional, but as happens sometimes, damaged a few pieces of furniture and destroyed a kitchen table. This was not our first move, so we weren't upset, because "things happen." However, this is why you should STAY AWAY from Carmack. After sending Carmack the pictures, as a part of the claims process, and waiting several months, as is the requirement under their policy, they denied the claim, saying that there wasn't enough damage to warrant paying us. Not paying for the minor damages was not my main issue, but they literally broke a $500 kitchen table, to the point where it cannot be repaired. We have to replace it. That's crazy to me! However, after reading other reviews (I should have done that before hiring them), they seem to be fine with only having you as a customer once, and not living up to their responsibility. They are a mess of a company, from the incorrect (underbid contract to win the business), to trying to charge us $1,000's of dollars more. They are running a scam, pretending to be a moving company.. Horrible...horrible company! If after reading this review, you still choose this company, do yourself a favor and buy their extortion protection (aka., Extended Protection Coverage), so that when they damage your furniture, you have a chance of getting them to pay a reasonable amount for it. As opposed to their pennies-on-the-dollar pay for damage scheme.

"COMPANY RESPONSE PLEASE READ - FALSE REPRESENTATION While I completely accept responsibility for having an inexperienced sales person, who is now no longer with the company, underestimate the scope of the [Member Name Removed]'s pack and move, this review is filled with inaccurate and quite frankly slanderous accusations. I have built a company focused on fairness to my crews and to my customers, with many repeat customers over the 35 years in business and over 100 A ratings on Angie's List. We at Carmack do not underbid to win business; I wouldn't set my crews up for failure like that, not to mention that isn't the way to stay in business for very long. The details are below for those of you that care about the truth. On Pack Day the crew leader alerted me that there was much more packing and work to be done than what the work order was indicating. I personally went to the job, and discussed what was estimated vs what needed to be done. Bottom line, is that I assured the Customer that the work would be done, deeply discounted the labor, as well as the packing materials to bring their total much closer to the estimated price. Please note: this was BEFORE the truck was loaded. Concerning the claim: All Customers are provided information and paperwork well in advance of their move in order to have the time to consider the Valuation options. This Customer declined full value protection prior to her move and on pack day. The move was completed on December 16th, the Customer requested a claim form on December 18th and the claim for was emailed the same day. The Customer's claim form was dated January 10th and received on January 11th and processed by the claims department as follows: Since FVP was declined, it was covered at .60 cents per pound, maximum of $50 per article, and a $250 deductible (standard coverage in the Moving Industry). The total of the claim, based on this released valuation, was less than the deductible. A letter was dated and mailed on March 1st - which was 1 month, 2 weeks, and 4 days, not several months, as alleged. Please note: The table, per the Customer submitted claim form is 300lb, 2 years old, and worth $550. It is repairable from the pictures also submitted. I will not lower myself to address the other hateful accusations in this review nor throw out any emotional rebuttals back but do invite anyone needing assurance to contact me for the facts that I can back up with not only many many referral customers but with signed paperwork from this particular customer. I happy to say that I am proud of my crews and the services we provide - even this particular customer filled out an Evaluation Form on the crews as Excellent! - Rob Carmack"

the movers came on time and did a wonderful job. needed them to move big items and some boxes. they did the job in 3.5 hours. they showed up on time and got straight to work. they wrapped leather furniture to keep from getting damaged from doorways.

Movers arrived on time and began packing up the Apartment. The entire 750 square foot apartment was packed and ready to leave in about four hours. The drivers then headed to the new Townhouse that was 30+ miles away. Afterwards, the drivers unloaded each box or item into the identified spaces. All of the closets were setup as before and the process was remarkably seamless. After the move, repeated inspections showed no damage to any items whatsoever. This is the 3rd move with CarMack and I will use them in the future. I highly recommend this mover for your treasured belongings.

The packing of my household goods and then the inventory and loading of the truck in MD the next day was something to watch - I'm sure it could not have been done better or gone more smoothly. I'm not done unpacking in CA yet, but I've run across very little breakage or damage so far (a few minor nicks on some wood furniture (that most wouldn't even notice), a cheap candle holder chipped). I closed on my house on 12/21/17 and did have to spend Christmas and New Year's in a hotel in CA because my household goods weren't here - but that was a factor of the time of year I moved and how little notice we got from the builder in CA as to when my property would be ready to close on. I know that Rob Carmack did everything he could to try to find someone else moving west to put with my half of a semi-truck trailer - and in the end, had to drive a half-full truck across the country to make delivery within the timeframe promised. I will be recommending Carmack to all my friends back east who are all retiring over the next few years all over the US.

We ended up storing our items with themover for longer than anticipated, which ran upthe cost exponentially. Cost listed below is for the move only minus thsstorage costs. We can't say enough good things about this company. Every person we met was professional, kind and caring about us and our possessions, and easy to work with. We have hired movers in the past and it was always a nightmare; just the opposite with Carmack. Every piece of furniture was carefully packed in padding inside the house, moved to the moving van, transported across the country, and moved into place in our new house here in Florida. And we had a lot of heavy, bulky items like a fire table, piano, lots of ceramic garden pots, rain barrels, over 700 boxes, and so forth. The moving crews both in Virginia and Florida were excellent, took pride in their jobs, and did the work with big smiles on their faces. Now three months later, we are just about finished with unpacking the boxes, and not one item was damaged or broken. You won't go wrong if you hire Carmack. We are pleased to highly recommend them for any move you are considering.

So far, the move has gone well. The packing crew arrived on time on a Friday morning and completed the packing very quickly. The moving crew arrived the next morning exactly on schedule. All of our items were packed into crates and then transported to storage. Again, this phase also went well. Everything that was to be transported to storage was, and everything that was not to be stored was not. We put as much as possible into closets and alerted the crews that these items were not to be packed or moved, and they followed those directions. The final phase of the move will not occur for a few months, but based upon the results so far, I expect everything to go smoothly. I'll provide an update in a few months.

Six gold stars to Carmack Moving and Storage! From my initial call for an estimate to the moment the moving crew finished the job, everything went very smoothly. Bryce was very professional and arrived right on schedule to walk through the home for my estimate. He answered all my questions, provided great suggestions, and sent a very fair estimate for my consideration. Once hired, the 3-man moving crew arrived the following week right on time. After Rafael and the crew introduced themselves, we walked through the house making sure all questions were answered before they started. The crew was very polite and careful, wrapping all the furniture, including special wrapping of some antiques and a grandfather clock. They worked very hard throughout the move and protected the front door and floors from damage, no small feat, particularly given the size of certain pieces of furniture. Once they packed the truck, the truck doors were sealed, awaiting the movement of household goods the next day due to the distance to our new home. As promised, the same crew arrived at our new home the next day to offload the truck. Again, they protected the floors and front door and carefully brought the furniture in without damaging the walls...or any of the household goods. The treadmill and 2 oversized couches were particularly challenging, especially given where we wanted them placed, but due to the the crew's professionalism and experience, they successfully placed the items. The crew made sure we were completely satisfied before leaving. The funny thing is, a few days later someone asked me how the move went and they were startled by my response. I told them it went GREAT! They said they never heard of such a positive, upbeat response from someone who had just moved. I simply told them that must because they didn't use Carmack. Based on my experience I highly recommend Carmack Moving and Storage if you are looking for a professional move at a good price.

It made moving so easy. They arrived when scheduled and packed all my things one day and filled the truck the next. The packing was incredible. I had a lot of glass, dishes and furniture with a lot of glass. Everything arrived perfectly--not a thing lost or broken. The men who did the packing and unpacking were great--very professional and extremely careful and pleasant. The driver, Kirk, was with the packers and delivered the furniture. He was just wonderful--knew where everything was placed and great to work with. I thought the price was very fair. I cannot praise this company enough and would highly recommend them.
