I was somewhat disappointed with Herndon Service. If I could give a B-/C+, I would. We contracted them to paint our entire townhouse (interior) including doors, walls, ceilings, and trim. Ivan provided a quote that seemed fair for the region so we took it. The job took roughly 4 days. The final product looks very nice in some areas, with a few rough spots where hairs were painted into the wall, little bits of roller, etc. Nothing terrible, but a few noticeable glitches. More importantly, the crew just wasn’t as careful as they should have been when painting, resulting in many areas with little splatters of paint. We paid extra for them to move furniture and work around us actually living there and, honestly, we moved most of the furniture ourselves beforehand just to simplify things for them. The crew moved quickly and worked hard, but this created sloppy errors. Halfway through the week, I pointed this out to Ivan in an email, who then came the next day to see for himself. There were still mistakes found even after he visited. (The pics I attached are of the mistakes.) We found paint on my fridge, on a filing cabinet, little specks on most of the door handles, on a toilet, on the floor tile, on a large mirror, and even on an area rug which should’ve been completely covered. Most of it was not hard to clean up, but it just shouldn’t have happened as much as it did and I shouldn't worry that all around my house are little errors like this. They really needed to slow down, cover things more adequately, and check around the areas when they were done for drips. Ivan said they would do a walk-through at the end to make sure everything's clean. That's great in theory, but if there's paint on an area rug on Day 2, it doesn't really help to learn this on Day 4. Also, they used various sinks in the house to rinse their brushes and, unfortunately, it’s fairly obvious. We can see remnants of the different colors used on the faucets and mirrors above the sinks. Again, nothing catastrophic, but when you're prepping your house to sell it, this doesn't help. Now, to be fair, the crew was nice and polite the whole time, although there was a bit of a language barrier that led to a rather large miscommunication. I had recently painted my brown wood bannisters black with white spindles. The first day of painting, the point person of the crew pointed to them and said something to the effect of, “Paint this?” to which I just said, “Sure.” I honestly didn’t know if it was included since bannisters weren’t mentioned specifically in the estimate. Since the estimate actually said “paint the entire house,” I thought, well, I guess it is included. He painted all of it white on day 1, and I thought it was just primer before they would use black paint again. Strange, but I didn’t question it when I first saw it. Yet it stayed white and unfinished each day. (Of note: When Ivan visited halfway through the week to deal with the splatter issue he pointed out that they weren’t supposed to paint the bannisters. I didn’t really know what to say since it wasn’t my fault they started painting it, so we just moved on to other areas of the house w/o really saying anything else. In my mind, they undid my work, so they needed to complete it.) Several times over the next couple of days I pointed at the bannisters and specifically asked, “Is this going to be black?” to which the point man said “yes.” Unfortunately, he must not have fully understood what I was asking as on the last day he called me downstairs to say his crew was done. Sure enough, the bannisters were still 100% white. I explained the mistake and even showed a picture of what they had once looked like. The point man called Ivan and they argued on the phone. Then I was handed the phone and Ivan said the bannisters weren’t supposed to be included after which he said since the point man made the mistake, the point man would have to correct it. I gave the phone back and the point man and Ivan clearly argued for a few minutes. The guy then begrudgingly goes to get more paint. A few hours later, it was done. Not done well, but done. I could see errors, but I thought I just need to get this over with and be done with it. I knew I could touch up the bannisters myself if need be. In a few areas (like our guest bathroom), they clearly need one more coat of paint, but didn't apply it. Lastly, the carpet in our house is old and on the first day I tried explaining to the crew that it wasn't the end of the world if they accidentally got a little paint on the carpet since we are planning on replacing it fairly soon. Unfortunately, they kind of took that to the extreme with big gobs of paint in a number of areas. I told Ivan when he visited that I was hoping for at least a LITTLE more caution for the carpet. In some areas it honestly looks like they didn't put any drop cloth down at all. (I know they did put it down, but I guess they didn't really make sure to tape it or keep it covering the rug the entire time.) So now when we walk around the house barefoot, we're stepping on crusted over paint on our carpeting. We're replacing it in 5-6 weeks, so it's not the end of the world, but still... I just can’t say I’d fully recommend them. Even 5 days later, we're still finding random paint in areas where there shouldn’t be. I shouldn't have to hunt for paint they dripped, they should a.) avoid dripping and b.) go through carefully to fix mistakes like that. If they had been more careful, I'd probably give them at least a B for their finished product (minus the bannister issue). Bottom line, the price was very affordable and most of the finished work looks fine, but they needed to be much more careful with not getting paint elsewhere.
