Majestic Moving & Storage was one of three moving companies we contacted to get estimates for our end-of-the-year move from Bethesda, Maryland to Central Texas. One of the companies failed to return our call. Both Majestic and the other company that did return our call were very prompt in doing so, and in sending someone out to perform the on-site estimate. Both did a thorough room-to-room walkthrough and provided us with written estimates in a timely manner. The estimates came in very close to each other in terms of price. Our ultimate decision to go with Majestic was guided 1) by the fact that Majestic is a family-owned business and 2) that, with them, we had a moving truck dedicated to our goods alone, i.e., that our belongings would not be lumped in with those of two or three other households.
Ovando Thelwell, the owner, came to our home to do the estimate. He showed up right on time, was personable, low-key and very forthcoming with information. He spent a little over an hour with us, walking through the interior and inspecting the contents of two outdoor units -- a gardening shed and a Pod in the driveway that we had rented to store excess furniture, etc. while we were selling our home. Ovando satisfactorily answered all of our questions and was able to make the approaching long-distance move seem less ominous than it seemed. Also, while we had a settlement date for the sale of our home scheduled, he was agreeable to remaining flexible regarding packing and loading dates, should there be a change.
Once we had informed Majestic of our decision to go with them, Kanika Thelwell became our primary contact, and we interacted with her by both phone and email. Kanika confirmed the details of the move with us and worked up a service order for us to sign and return. A deposit of $250 was required at that time to reserve the dates and the truck.
The packing and loading was done on two consecutive days. My husband and I had packed our books, bedding, non-fragile items and most of our clothing, with Majestic taking care of furniture, breakables, kitchenware, artwork, home electronics, heavier items such as tools and gardening equipment, and hanging clothes. The two men who came to pack on the first day were a little late due to traffic, but that wasn't a problem. They called to let us know beforehand and they were so skillful and efficient once they got there that, even with a lunch break, they were finished by 1:45 pm -- fifteen minutes before their scheduled finish time. And the three men who came on the following day to load the boxes, disassemble, pack and load the furniture and any remaining items arrived punctually and worked tirelessly, completing everything within the scheduled timeframe. One of the three acted as crew chief, keeping a running inventory of what was being packed and directing what should go on the truck when. All were extremely hardworking and pleasant, and they were very careful not to damage any walls, floors or fixtures in our recently-sold house. We paid one-third of the total bill at this time.
Delivery at the other end of our move was scheduled for a week later. Knowing that it's hard to pinpoint an actual delivery time for a long distance move, we had asked Kanika whether it was likely we would see the movers in the morning or the afternoon. She said that, generally, they try to show up between 9:00 and 10:00 in the morning, but that the driver would call the day before with an estimated time of arrival. However, we didn't get the call until the following morning, saying that they would be there around noon. Because our experience with Majestic and its crews had been so positive up to this point, we weren't overly concerned with this fact, but I do think they want to try and follow through on this as a matter of principle, for obvious reasons.
There were two men delivering, unloading, reassembling and placing the furniture in our new home and they did a fabulous job in a remarkably short time. One had been the crew chief at the other end and his memory of what came from where in the previous house was awesome. As quick as they were, they didn't leave until they were sure we were satisfied with the placement of every box and every piece of furniture. The final balance of the bill was collected at this time.
After several days we noticed that there was a crack in the leg of our futon frame. But that was the only damaged item in the entire move. We didn't even bother to notify Majestic about it, since it was something we were able to easily repair ourselves and because everything else had arrived in such immaculate condition. It was evident, as we unpacked boxes, how much care had been taken in packing the items. Not a glass broken, not a lampshade ripped.
Overall, our experience with Majestic Movers was an extremely positive one and we would not hesitate to use them in the future.
