There are not too many companies like Home Energy Medic. From the very first phone call with Vicki, I felt like she actually cared about my problems - she was always quick to respond, explained in detail what exactly was included in their services, and assured me they'd get to the bottom of it. Later, after Bradley showed up at my door, his knowledge about the distinct failures in my envelope impressed me - he really knows his stuff. He didn't mind performing acrobatics with me when inspecting the attic, took detailed pictures of where insulation was missing, and above all, genuinely wanted to help me get my unit to where it needs to be. He even found several areas of concern that a prior infrared inspection did not turn up. Although the service was only supposed to last 3-4 hours, Bradley didn't mind spending 8 hours with me - and didn't charge me a single penny more than what was originally agreed to. I would highly recommend Home Energy Medics for all your envelope needs, and especially Vicki and Bradley. It's not often you find a company that sincerely cares about helping you with your space, not to mention the price point is well worth the money. I give them an A++!

Excellent. Mike the auditor was professional, thorough, and knowledgeable, very eager to explain how things work or what he was doing, and had an obvious passion for the job. Nice guy and very easy to work with. The audit itself took 7+ hours but it was no hassle having him working in the house at all, as we could choose our level of involvement in the process and hop in with questions whenever they popped up. Vicki the office manager was likewise easy to deal with, very flexible with accommodating changes to the original appointment. Overall a very pleasant experience so far.

We have waited for 4 years to submit this review because we wanted to be able to attest to the results of the work that was done and felt the need to observe over several seasonal changes to best ascertain the quality of the work. We could not have been more pleased and satisfied with the quality of the Energy Audit and subsequent energy efficiency related work done by Scott Donelson and his team at Home Energy Medics. We recommend them wholeheartedly without any reservation. The first step was to request a home energy audit from Home Energy Medics. This turned out to be an extremely satisfying event. Scott Donelson, the company owner, showed up at noon and told us that our sized house should take about four hours. He didn't leave until nine pm! That is because our renovated house turned out to have many, complex architectural features that required extensive analysis and Scott was a true professional who didn't leave even one stone unturned - he utilized a variety of technical equipment and sensors to gather data. He invited us to go along with him and he patiently explained everything he was doing and what the preliminary results were at each place. He also very patiently accommodated all of our many questions and provided his initial thoughts based on his extensive experience. It was a very long day for all of us, but we learned so much and most importantly gained a strong sense of Scott's professionalism, integrity, and technical knowledge. By the end of that day, Scott had earned our trust so that we knew he would give us a fair, accurate and honest assessment and a proper estimate for the work he would later recommend. This was extremely important to our decision to invest a good deal of money to hire Home Energy Medics to do work on our home. We were very pleased to see that Scott charged us the same price for our 9 hour audit as he had earlier quoted when he thought it would only be 4 hours. Scott made it clear to us that he was there to do the job correctly, regardless of how complicated it became or how long it took. One week later Scott delivered to our house a very professional quality notebook report of his entire assessment as well as a series of improvements that he recommended we make. Each recommendation was listed and priced separately so that we could pick and choose which individual items of work we wanted to have done and could make informed decisions. The report prioritized the items according to which were most necessary (life safety first) and which would have the highest positive impact. Photos were included to help us know which items were which. Scott made time to discuss the report with us in as much detail as we would like and helped us decide which we would do. Ultimately we elected to make almost all the recommended improvements but were able to do so with solid information and never felt any pressure whatsoever. In fact, there were some improvements Scott recommended we could easily do ourselves for lower cost and even told us where to purchase the items and how to approach the work. The work we elected to have done was extensive and took about 2 weeks. Throughout that work, Home Energy Medics had a project manager on site to supervise the work of subcontractors, keep us informed, schedule the work around our personal schedules, and ensure that everything was cleaned up spotlessly at the end of each phase. We could not have been more pleased at how little this extensive work impacted our ability to use and enjoy our home. When all the work was completed, Scott came back learn about our experience, answer all our resulting questions, and personally inspect all the work that had been done. Then Home Energy Medics sent an independent energy auditor to do a final assessment with all the necessary technical equipment and give us a report that compared the various sensor readings both before and after the work and to analyze the improvements that had been made. This resulted in a sign we can display in our yard, and a certificate we can show when we someday sell our home that attests to the level of energy efficiency improvements we had gained. Finally, we have been very pleased to see a dramatic drop in our utility bills both in winter and in summer.

Bradley Fleming was our inspector. He was prompt, courteous, and efficient in running the home energy audit. It took ~5-6 hours and we got a thorough report at the end with clear action items. I even got to follow Bradley as he showed me the heat camera and how it was identifying air leakage in our home.

Michael came to do our audit and was very thorough. He spent several hours assessing all aspects of our home and providing explanation along the way. Once the proposal was completed, he explained each option at length, recommending the most bang for our buck. Overall we were very pleased with our experience.

Home Energy Medics's work on the insulating of my home has made a huge difference in my energy bills. I have been on a budgeted bill with Washington Gas for years. Since the work was done on my home two years ago, I have paid off the 'budget' bill amount half way into each season. That is, they have not amended the budgeted bill to reflect the drop in usage. I end up paying zero for 5 months per year. Maybe they will figure this out soon, and amend my 'budgeted bill' amount! The staff of Home Energy Medics was professional, courteous and fast. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I highly recommend other homeowners pay to have the energy audit that we had performed on our home. The information gained was well worth the money. Our auditor, Michael, was at our house for about 7 hours. He did an extensive interview with us about our concerns and observations, took a thorough look at our roof, downspouts, grading, then used a blower door to depressurize the interior of our house. Using this tool, he was able to identify all kinds of issues with our HVAC systems and our building envelope. He did a thorough inspection of our attic, and used an IR camera to further identify areas of concern. He also tested the safety of all of our combustion appliances. I wish that I could have obtained this level of detailed information about how my house performs when we got our home inspection. This audit cost the same amount of money and was so much more scientific, detailed and accurate. I also found the approach to not be over-the-top in terms of recommendations and solutions. For example, interventions that would have a high first cost and a more modest return (like removing all of the drywall from the finished basement and spray foaming the walls) were discussed but not recommended. The philosophy was definitely about looking for the low hanging fruit with the biggest impact. As for the encapsulation, Michael was able to explain to us why HEM made their recommendation and why the other suggestions we had gotten were either not best practice or not necessary. His analysis and explanation cleared up a lot of mystery for us with the source of the problem and the best way to solve it. Michael was super professional, knowledgeable, responsive and patient. The written report that he followed up with was clear and easy to understand. HEM does also act as a contractor and we are considering using them to implement some of the solutions suggested. They broke the solutions down into separate projects with separate price tags. I appreciate that they will be able to monitor the quality of the work and that they will have the equipment to measure our building performance after the improvements.

Bradley Fleming of Home Energy Medics, LLC recently conducted a Home Energy Audit for my wife and I and produced a very thorough and cogent report that covered a variety of problems and concerns that he identified during his meticulous inspection of our home from attic to basement. Mr. Fleming took the time to explain exactly what the components of the audit would consist of and gave us a very thoughtful explanation of the methodology he would employ and the tools he would use. He was willing to take questions from us during the inspection and answered them to our complete satisfaction. The report he produced covering recommendations to address problems and concerns identified was very succinct and included photos to justify his recommendations. Also included in the audit report was an action plan which listed a solution to correct each problem area he identified in our attic, bedrooms, basement, and sunroom. Costs of addressing these problems were clearly presented by the firm. Overall, our experience with Mr. Fleming and his company was a very enlightening experience. His professionalism and very positive attitude was evident throughout the audit as well as during his return visit to provide us with the audit report. I highly recommend Mr. Fleming and his company to everyone who is interested in learning about energy usage in their homes and identifying specific areas that need attention to improve energy efficiency and lower costs.

The audit was incredibly thorough. We have an old house and the upstairs rooms vary from really cold to really hot. Just based on preliminary findings, it's finally clear why this is happening. Prior to this audit, no one has ever provided a good explanation for the temperature differences. This was worth the money spent. Our technician was very professional and explained what he was doing throughout the day.

Very professional staff. He took the time to explain how we were wasting money and explained how properly insulating our house would save us money. As a result of following his advice and getting the correct insulation done exactly where it was needed, our electric bill went down by $100. Our gas bill was reduced by over $100.  We are MUCH more comfortable in our home. Home energy medics provides a great service! 

This is a review of the energy audit itself, no actual insulation or air sealing was performed. I had issues with temperature differential between the top floor and main floor. The master bedroom would get very hot during the summer and very cold during the winter. In order to determine the source of the problem I hired HEM to perform an energy audit. The auditor performed an excellent job in identifying air leakage in the attic, ceiling, and basement of the home. The entire house was depressurized to measure how drafty the house was. A thermal imaging camera was used to identify places where hot / cold air was leaking through joints between the top plate and wall, through recess lighting, bathroom fans, electrical penetrations in the ceiling etc. The entire audit was very helpful in determining the source of the temperature issues as well as outlining solutions and was well worth the cost.
