"This member signed a contract with me in January of 2013, 2 1/2 years ago. The contract was for 45' of fence and two single gates. Prior to the day work was to begin the member asked if we would just set the gate posts and come back in 2 to 3 weeks to do the rest of the job. I agreed even though I feel it is best to build everything in one day for maximum stability. Plus his request put me in a bind because I had this scheduled as a one day job. But I honored his request and all gate posts were set according to industry standard which was spelled out in the contract. In the meantime the member wanted to make changes to the original contract which involved a more expensive style of fence plus many upgrades which increased the price dramatically. His response to the increased amount was " you were the most expensive company I talked to and I chose you so I wouldn't have to have this type of conversation" At that point I told the member I could not build what he wanted at the same price of the original contract. He stated he was not going to pay for any upgrades. I felt we were at an impasse,and told him I didn't think I would be able to please him and offered to return his deposit which he accepted. AT NO TIME DID I EVER TELL HIM I HAD A BIGGER JOB TO GO TO. He kept the posts we set free of charge. My customer satisfaction comes first but I know I can't please everyone and in this case it was better to part ways. Sincerely, Rob Darnell"

I found Adirondack on Angie's List, and I can say that they absolutely live up to their solid A reviews.
Rob was great to work with. He was prompt in returning my initial call for a quote, and all my other calls after that. When we initially spoke on the phone, I described what was happening with our current gate and how I envisioned a new gate working. Just from my description over the phone, Rob knew right off the bat the best options for replacement. Once he saw our current gate in person, he noticed the problems in its construction immediately. I appreciate that he gave me a thorough overview of how the gate should've been properly built. He gave me two options that I could proceed with--a straight, proper rebuild of the wood gate, or a sturdier, though more expensive, steel framed gate. Given that I wanted a strong gate that would last, we decided to go with the steel frame gate. I couldn't be happier. This gate is so, so much easier to work with then the old gate and it looks a thousand times better, with a nicely weld steel frame and beautiful cedar boards.
I am very pleased with the service Rob and his team at Adirondack Fence Co provided and highly recommend them.

I'm not sure where to start - or which part of this experience was "the best" because ALL things are practically tied. First - I called and left a voicemail about my fencing needs and Adirondack Fence's potential availability, etc... Rob returned my call in less than 10 minutes, himself.
He listened intently and actively to our needs, offered to send Linda out the very next day (he was on a 2 week job relatively far away). Linda arrived - on time - as scheduled - the next day to review our landscape for an estimate. Linda was knowledgeable, personable, professional and possessed a very clear vision of what would look best, as well as function best to suit our needs. In addition, please note our job was a tiny bit complicated (due to the chainlink fence).
Rob called and emailed estimates immediately.
We were so impressed with his turnaround, his attention to detail and need - it was difficult to choose anyone else. Rob accurately set our expectations about his scheduling, but promised a window came up where he could send a crew, he would. And he DID. Our expectation was that we'd be slated for ~4 weeks out. Rob managed to work us in within TWO WEEKS! After graciously confirming this would work, he sent a crew to arrive the next day.
The crew (and Rob himself) arrived, as indicated, at 7am - right on time. They worked ALL DAY and the next, barely stopping for lunch - and honestly never for a break. The gentlemen in the crew were polite and gracious. They cleaned up meticulously after each work day - and even scraped dirt from the post holes off of our mulch.
We simply have never had a better experience with a contractor than we did with Rob and Adirondack Fence. The entire process was enjoyable, there were no issues whatsoever. And know this: I do not lie, and I do not give referrals or recommendations easily or lightly. I lack the ability to even slightly exaggerate (I cannot do that either).
This was, bar none, the best experience. It was enjoyable - all of it. And I haven't even MENTIONED the quality of their WORK. The quality is amazing. Their work is meticulous, exact, entirely custom and perfect. Our yard looks BIGGER than before it had a fence - which seems impossible, but its true.
I hope this is enough... Because there simply aren't enough positive, favorable words to describe these guys. Also - please note that we do not belong on "Band of Neighbors" simply because it doesn't exist for our area. I hope this high opinion still counts and holds weight. Good luck - and honestly - I'm emphatic about Adirondack Fence. It's stressful enough to need or want to ave work done - but to have it be such an incredible experience was such an unexpected surprise.

Greetings, we plan to install a backyard fence this spring. We are most interested in wood but want to learn more about vinyl. The primary purpose is privacy. We want the maximum height allowed in Fairfax Co. (6', I believe). Would you offer us a quote?Thanks

"Yes, that's what I said. In my experience when a customer has such a small window period for an estimate were standing around waiting our turn. It's happened many times. And quite frankly I find it rude. I take my job very serious and I feel we are very professional as my reviews show but we are not selling used cars. Rob"
Rob also replaced my shed doors which had sever winter damage. One of the pergola sight lines looked upon the shed and the doors distracted from the view. The replacement doors that Rob's crew built were outstanding and better than the originals. The pergola turned out even better than we had envisioned.
Rob Darnell and his crew were exceptional. Contractor selection was based on the excellent Angie's List ratings/reviews and the strength of Rob's presentation of options and general helpfulness. He invests a lot of time up-front without any assurance of getting the work. I did not get estimates from anyone else. By his own acknowledgment, Rob is probably not the cheapest fence contractor, but in my view he was very cost-effective when you consider quality as well as $. Installation went smoothly, though unavoidably impeded by several days of terrible weather. Total job took three days. Plenty of hands-on work by Rob himself, with most of the labor performed by a two-man crew. Very good client interface during the job, especially when a situation warranted customer input. Punctual (almost precise) in showing up for appointment and on work days. Cleanup was excellent.
I am completely satisfied, highly recommend this company and would definitely to use again.
