Even though we only used them for an inspection, they were the best contractors I've ever met. They were punctual, thorough, and very polite. They protected all of our furniture with a clean drop cloth.

We reviewed the repair alternatives and determined that relining the flue (the cracks were in the joints between the flue liners) with a cement-like substance was best. Rooftop was able to finish the entire project within the day.

Was told be another Chimney Sweep that our chimney had collapsed in on itself, which was why our gas fireplace was backing up into the house. Art came out and showed us via camera that that wasn't the case, told us what was REALLY happening and what we could/should do about it. The price to reline out chimney was half of the price the other guys quote. I expected a mess, as they have to break out the old ceramic liner. Not a bit of mess, dust or dirt in the house, they were very respectful of all of our belongings, even putting them back in place on the mantle after they were finished.

I was so impressed with this company. We had two failing chimneys in a recently purchased home. They came and evaluated (and photographed) the situation. They gave us a very specific estimate. We then expressed an interest in gas inserts rather than rebuilding the chimney liners and they worked with us to make that happen. They also brought in excellent support services and installed the two new gas inserts. Everyone was wonderful to work with and they left our home spotless. I would give them 10 stars if I could!

The inspection was very informative. The technician was very knowledgeable and provided various recommendations on improving/replacing my unit. I also received a discount because I mentioned that I found them on Angie's List.

Rooftop Chimney Sweeps has been our go-to company for any and all work on our chimney for several years now -- following another company that tried to scam us by telling us our chimney was detaching from the house and needed to be torn down and rebuilt. We know this to be a scam as other friends and family have been delivered the same news and we've seen more than one chimney in our area being rebuilt. Chimneys simply don't detach from homes that often. For this reason, we switched to Rooftop Chimney Sweeps after a full diagnosis revealed no serious problems with our chimney structure. Moreover, the previous company supposedly sealed our chimney crown, but within a year the sealant was peeling -- probably nothing more than grey paint. This year we knew we would have to make some repairs to our chimney. Griffen and his crew come in to perform a cleaning and inspection and upon completion of the work he suggested the chimney be relined and the crown replaced/repaired. Griffen used a camera to show us where joints were missing mortar and where some of the ceramic tiles were cracked. Total cost of repairs would be $4,200 (we have a 4' wide fireplace and a correspondingly large smoke chamber and chimney so prices will vary as to size), no small amount. Some research on the internet revealed that water that gets behind the ceramic tiles can freeze and eventually impact the exterior brick structure and for peace of mind we decided to go ahead with the work. Sam and Johnny arrived at our home shortly after 0800 as scheduled and immediately went to work, later being jointed by two additional gentleman to assist. Sam and Johnny did a fantastic job!!! They were very pleasant to work with -- professional, respectful, and personable throughout the day. Nothing short of FANTASTIC! Before doing anything, they moved two large chairs (we had previously removed everything away from the hearth and mantle) and then covered the entire room with drop cloths -- furniture and floor. Even more important -- and this is essential -- they removed our new fireplace door and thoroughly sealed the fireplace so that dust and debris would not come flying out of the fireplace as the old ceramic tiles were mechanically broken apart. Throughout the day, they carefully removed the ceramic tiles, dropped a new stainless steel liner (lifetime warranty) into the chimney, and then installed full insulation around the liner. Upon completing that effort they next repaired our crown, finding two detaching bricks in the process. The two bricks were reset and the crown installed. Once all of the work was completed, everything in the room was returned to order - exactly as it was found. The fireplace door was reattached and when we found that it was slightly off center, Sam and Johnny managed to reset it again to our satisfaction. It looks exactly as it was installed only a few weeks back. The room in which they were working has one wall lined with bookcases, all of which are filled with books. The amount of dust resulting from this work could have been overwhelming, but upon leaving at the end of the day it is as if Sam and Johnny had never been io our home. They did a great job and we would unequivocally use them again. I have read some comments about Griffen's hard sell. We didn't find him trying to sell so much as he recommended what needed to be done. His suggestion to reline the entire chimney was unexpected and homeowners should always do some online research to learn about the "hows" and "whys." This is exactly what we did and it was from our effort that we concluded that with a lifetime warranty on the stainless steel liner and a 15 year warranty on the new crown it made sense to go with peace of mind as we use the fireplace almost every weekend during the cold weather. We didn't rate the cost of the work as we trusted Rooftop Chimney Sweeps and for that reason we did not price shop and have nothing with which to compare their price.

I am very pleased. The need for this work was discovered during the annual inspection and chimney cleaning that I schedule with Rooftop. During the inspection, the inspector, Mynor Maldonado, ran a wireless camera and light up the flue. He showed me the damage using a tablet to display the wireless picture. We discussed the options I had and I was provided a detailed estimate for the work. I scheduled the work for late in the summer. There was a two man crew, Trevor and Johnny. The job took two full days. I would say that about a third of the time was spent by the two men doing preparation and taking precautions not to cause undo damage or dirt in our home. Once they started, they worked carefully and steadily. I like to ask a lot of questions about larger jobs done in my home. Both Trevor and Johnny were very knowledgeable about the job, the properties of the materials they were installing, etc. These are men who know what they're doing and are proud of the quality of work they perform. I have had good experiences with Rooftop Chimney Sweeps over the years and this latest work they performed was the quality I have become accustomed to. I recommend this firm for any work you need performed on fireplaces, chimneys, etc.

They gave us several options on the smoke problem, Try this fix first and then if it does not work we can work on it more rather than spend a lot of money now. While they were working on the chimney they also noticed that the vent Furnace for the looked very bad. We had no idea because no one ever looked at – even all the other chimney cleaners we used! WE had it fixed and once again, very professional and informative. I would recommend them to anyone and will continue to use them in the future.

This was the 3rd chimney sweep that I had out to my home for a Level 2 inspection.  The first was outrageous and talked about my insurance paying for the repairs.  They were there maybe 1/2 an hour.  The second one was there about 15 minutes and was so low in price it was ridiculous.  Rooftop came out on short notice (a +) and spent 3 hours inspecting the chimney inside and out.  Jon and Dan were great.  Extremely neat...freshly washed sheets were put down everywhere.  They even went up into the attic to inspect the walls where the chimney runs alongside the house.  Their inspection came back with the same issues that the first company had but their repair recommendations weren't anywhere near as drastic.  I highly recommend them for inspections.  I can only assume that the repairs would be made with the same high level of quality.

UPDATE: Rooftop Chimney Sweeps CEO Dylan Raycroft reached out to me to figure out what went wrong with my experience and was responsive and apologetic. I believe that he will be addressing the communications issues that caused the problem. I have changed my rating to reflect this outreach. Thanks for reaching out Dylan.

They quoted me about $300 to replace the cap and I said fine. They came, looked at the job and sent me an invoice. Thinking the job was completed, I paid the invoice. Imagine my surprise when I received an email from the technician telling me he would give me a quote for the work that needed to be done. So it hadn't been completed yet. It took them 4 or 5 days to reimburse the money. In the meantime, the technician sent me a quote for over $2000. Needless to say, I said no thanks and went with another company.

Perfect.  They were prompt, professional, friendly, courteous.  I was having a new roof put on my house and the roofers discovered that my chimney needed some repair work done.  Trevor and John, from Rooftop Chimney Sweeps, came promptly, gave me an estimate and did the repairs.  The lead person from the roofing company even commented to me what a "top notch" job that they did.

I have revised my initial review after a long discussion with the owner of Rooftop.  He took considerable time to explain the situation and offered some suggestions to alleviate the problem.  He also explained the restrictions, requirements and costs of performing outside work in Old Town Alexandria.  On top of that, he refunded 50% of the Service Call Charge; although I told him it was not necessary.    Should I require services again, I would use Rooftop Chimney Sweeps in the future.

We have used Rooftop Chimney Sweeps for nearly 30 years.  Historically they have been great - neat, clean and never recommended unnecessary work.  While they were punctual and very neat, the price for cleaning went up to almost $300 (used to be about $100-150), then they said I needed additional work of almost $5000 - $4000 of which was for a situation I have had for 20 years, that they have personally inspected many times and never said a thing about. The issue is that in my second flue, that used to be for the furnace before I got a high efficiency furnace, was now only for the ?Orphaned? water heater vent that they said is undersized and needs an entire new flue liner (for close to $4000). I?ve never had a problem with it and no one - including the HVAC folks I trust a lot who just replaced the furnace - or previous inspectors from Rooftop, ever mentioned. They also said that the chimney cap was cracked and needed to be sealed and the flashing was decomposing and need to be replaced. On top of those really high prices, I really resented the very hard sell that their guy, Griffin, pushed on me - with a meaningless explanation for why I need the new flue after 20 years (he had some crazy mathematic answer that came down to "It's ten times bigger than it ought to be.") or why the other things - like a simple coating on the cap, were so expensive. I went with the cap and it took them about 5 minutes to do (for $525!) - a little internet reading later found that it?s easily a DIY project for about $20 in materials and should have two coats - they just brushed on one and left it.  I decided I should do the cap seal because it will get worse with the freezing weather and had thought they would do a more professional job (which I don't think they did - since they only put one coat on). Needless to say, I didn?t go with the rest of it. Griffin called back after several days trying the hard sell again.  When I said I wanted to get another quote, he quickly ended the call.
