The Angie's List deal was $5999 for a new roof (tear off old shingles, underlayment and flashing, pipe collars etc., up to 1600 SF. My roof was 2738 SF and the existing plywood was too thin (#/8 inch instead of 1/2 inch, installed with no clips, and badly deteriorated so all the plywood needed to be replaced, which is why the total cost was higher than the Angie's List deal price. The work was done right, with top quality materials, the workers were very good about cleanup. They did what needed to be done and did it right. In the end 200SF of plywood did not have to be replaced and I got a credit for that. Good communication, top notch in every way. I could have gotten it done for less, but I have had problems in the past with a lowest cost roof and I wanted it done once and done right.

Arrived on time and went up on the roof to find and patch a small leak. Friendly and professional.

On Friday, August 22, I found damp papers under the eaves in the attic, and water marks on the brown paper covering the insulation above the damp space. Called Lyons Contracting, and Michael Simpson said he would come out on Monday afternoon (8/25). He said he would call first. My wife was home; he called around 11:45 am to say he was nearby. In about 15 minutes, he arrived and my wife showed him the wet spot on the floor in the eaves and the water marks on the insulation. He said he would get on the roof and take a look. She heard some banging, and then about 10 -- 15 minutes later, he knocked on the door again. He handed her a nail and said it had worked its way loose and lifted the shingle. He explained that he had fixed the shingle so that it would not leak. She was surprised that it was fixed already and asked if he would take a check. He said "No, you don't owe me anything." He also told her that our 20 year old roof still looked good, but we might experience more nails working loose. We are very thankful to Mr. Simpson for not making us wait weeks for a repair, his expertise which allowed him to fix the problem so quickly, and his courtesy in not charging us for the visit and repair. We found this company on Angie's List, and now we are big fans of Lyons Contracting.

We purchased our home a year ago, and at the time didn't know how old our roof was or whether it needed to be replaced. Last fall, Tom's team came to review the condition of our roof and clean it off. We were very pleased with their work. On Saturday, water started dripping in our kitchen. We figured out that it was a roof issue, not an internal plumbing issue, and I emailed Tom asking if he was available to take a look. He responded quickly, and was able to come today. He immediately found the main culprit - a hole right above the dripping point, and also found two other small holes. He patched all three holes, and we're thrilled that our roof is water tight again! We tried to pay Tom for this service call, but he wouldn't accept it. Tom was knowledgeable, professional, helpful, and we would definitely work with Lyons Contracting again!

We actually ended up decided to go a different direction with the entire project. They were great and very professional. He was very responsive and very good.

Lyon's did a great job! Tom was excellent to work with. I couldn't be more pleased with how the whole process went, from estimate to completion. I purchased the deal on Angie's List for $5,999 which covered a 1600 sq ft roof. My roof is 1900 sq ft. Tom gave me a reasonable estimate for the overage that included removing two layers of shingles and replacing water damaged plywood over the garage. The Lyon's team showed up on time and completed the house job in one day. They left things cleaner than when they arrived. Additionally, as an afterthought I asked Tom for a quote on replacing the roof on my water damaged shed. Without skipping a beat I received an email from Tom the materials had been dropped off. The team returned a day earlier than expected and completed the shed. These guys are great. I would definitely recommend their professional services to anyone. Thank you.

The agent for the company measured my roof and told me there would be extra costs because it was larger than the 1600 sq ft allowed by the "deal". I was under the impression that the "deal" would be all inclusive. The overage came to $1755 and this does not include any further problems which may be found during the tear off and replacement.

The week of July 7, Tom Petrilli of Lyons Contracting was one of three contractors who came out and inspected my roof and my neighbor's roof. He emailed pictures and provided a quick assessment. Unlike the other two contractors, he wasn't pushing for a sale or suggesting additional work. In fact, in a follow-up call with him, he said that if we didn't want to replace the roof at this point, we could hold out and just do a repair on my side of the roof. He explained how prices on roofing materials go up quarterly. By email, he gave us an estimate for doing the job together, offering two prices, depending on the type of shingle chosen. The price for shingles similar to the ones already on both side of the duplex was $5,321, and for the architectural shingles was $5,652. The estimate turned out to be the most reasonable of the three we received. The highest of the estimates received was nearly $3,000 above Tom's estimate. The other companies included the one that previously shingled my roof and one previously used by my neighbor's family. Tom quickly answered follow-up questions by email. When we decided to hire his company, he provided a simple contract, brought out samples of the architectural shingles, explained what his workers would do, explained what we needed to do and gave an estimate of when the work would begin, at the end of July. He communicated everything clearly. The work ended up being done a day earlier than expected. On that day, his crew arrived at the appointed time and completed the job in a day. Tom checked in twice in person with my neighbor, who was home during the work. He emailed pictures of the work while it was underway. One unexpected cost ended up being the replacement of some plywood on the neighbor's side, but there would have been no way to know that prior to ripping off the existing shingles. When the job was finished, the crew left the area very clean. I appreciated Tom's straightforward nature and honesty, and I'd hire him again. He kept everyone involved in the loop by email, and delivered what was promised. The one thing I would have liked -- so I could share it with other neighbors -- would have been a final photo from up on the roof. Instead, I'm just suggesting they walk by and look at it.

Great work! Provider sealed all flashing and caulked all seams to ensure they are water tight. The best news is I didn't even have to be home. he came took pictures and emailed me the before and after pictures. He also noted any trouble spots and when I should expect to replace the roof. Great service will use again for sure. Also, called last week and was able to come the following week. other roofing companies has a 12 week wait and wanted a lot more just to come out.

A Professional, Excellent Job. USE THESE GUYS! I called Tom the day I found him on Angie's List and he responded that day. He was friendly, professional, and never came across as a hard-sell. He asked good questions, measured the roof that day, provided me with an estimate within two days, and set up a date for the work to be done. He had the gear delivered on a Friday, told me the job would be done on Monday (today), and when I got back from work that night, the roof was done! His guys cleaned up very well after themselves--I didn't see any junk or extra gear laying around--they even removed and pitched the old satellite dish that I'd asked to be removed. Tom had also taken photos during the job to show where the roof had begun to rot (no surprise, since the roof hadn't been touched in easily 15 years), and included those in an email to me. The bill was also provided in PDF form, so I can pay it immediately. No surprises, the price was fair, and the breakdown was something even I could understand. I would use these guys again for any roofing or contracting work; they were pros through and through. Fantastic job, professional standards, decent price, and FAST. What more could you ask for?

I was totally Impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of the owner of Lyons Contracting and his on-site crew. They were prompt with their arrival at the house each day, worked diligently and as cleanly as a re-roofing allows cleaning the site as they progressed. The crew had obviously worked many previous jobs as a team and there was little need to discuss the steps that were to be taken next. I would definitely recommend them again. Here are the specifics of what they accomplished: 1. Removed all existing roofing and hauled away. 2. Installed new aluminum baked enamel drip edging at all eaves. 3. Installed new GAF Weather Watch waterproof underlayment at all eaves, valleys and penetrations. ( Penetrations include chimneys, skylights and plumbing vents) 4. Installed new 30# shingle underlayment over entire roof deck. 5. Install new neoprene and aluminum vent collars at all existing plumbing vents. 6. Install new GAF Timberline HD Lifetime fiberglass self sealing roofing shingles using 1 1/4" electro-galvanized roofing nails. 7. Cut back roof decking for ridge vent and installed a new GAF Cobra ridge vent over entire ridge which was then covered with matching GAF Timbertex ridge caps. 8. installed new aluminum pan, apron, step and counter flashings at existing masonry chimney. 9. Sealed all new flashings where necessary with construction grade tri-polymer sealant. 10. Cleaned all gutters and sweep yard, flower beds and drive with a magnetic nail bar.

Lyons contracting was punctual both with the estimate and the work. Work was of highest quality. Communication throughout the job was excellent with frequent emails with photos.

Mike Simpson came to give me an estimate on the same day I called. He is extremely knowledgeable and took a lot of time to explain materials and process to me. He answered all my questions and I felt great confidence in the company and the quality of their work. On the day of the job, today, in fact, the crew arrived bright and early and worked almost the entire day and finished the job. As the work progressed I received e-mails with attached pictures so that I could see what was happening each step of the job. I think that is a particularly great touch, since most folks wouldn't be climbing out onto the roof to see what's going on. To me, that speaks of the confidence and pride the company has in its crews, work and work ethic. I'm very pleased with the work (the roof looks super!) and everyone I had contact with was friendly, courteous and professional.

I am speechless with delight. Thomas Petrilli came out the same day I ordered service, arrived promptly when promised (even texted to say he was on the way), and texted me before and after photos of all of the work he did. Lyons was very responsible. I purchased the deal and they came out the same week. Thomas was exactly on time and very easy to deal with. He even removed a lightbulb that I couldn't get to. He caulked around a pipe on the roof where I knew I was having a leak and told me that it would probably have to be caulked again in about 3 years. He stated that new codes usually have a shorter pipe that what I had (I have an older house) and that one of the reasons that contributed to the leaking was that the old caulking had cracked and when the wind was blowing strong it was moving the caulk and allowing the rain to come in. He offered a suggestion on how to prevent the pipe from moving as much that I could do myself. He showed me a problem that was happening with the Chimney as well. I would definitely use this company again.

It was a pleasure to work with Tom from Lyons contracting. I had 3 other roofers come out to take a look, two of which made me wait 3-4 weeks just to take a look and give me an estimate!!! Regardless, I realized I had two problems. First, my leak was hard to localize on a very old tar and gravel roof. Second, I had a tar and gravel roof. It seems there are very few firms that even work with tar anymore, so it was obvious I needed to bite the bullet and replace it. Since I did not want to wait another 3 weeks just to get a visit from the first two firms, I contacted a couple of other companies that were more responsive. Lyons Contracting was able to give me a same day rough estimate over the phone. They have some sort of satellite viewing service that allows them to see and measure a roof which is pretty cool. Tom showed up the following day to refine that estimate. No multi-week wait...big bonus. He was very knowledgeable and walked me through what would be required. I was also given a very competitive price, so I contracted with them. Once the work started, I was kept informed of the progress by email and photos which I very much appreciated. This was a very smooth experience. I highly recommend Lyons Contracting and would happily use them again.

FANTASTIC SERVICE! I would definitely recommend Lyons to anyone. Let me start off by saying that Tom Petrelli was absolutely great; he was very responsive and answered all of my questions. Lyons was the first vendor to come to my home and provided a detailed written estimate that same day. Their estimate was exactly on target and no hidden charges. They were the only vendor who could do the job by my deadline and they used their own employees -not subcontractors like some other vendors who bidded very low. I received estimates from other vendors, but none of them could meet a tight deadline, none of them knew if I needed a permit, and they all used subcontractors. LYONS ARRIVED ON TIME (THEY GAVE ME A 7:30 AM TO 8:30 AM ARRIVAL TIME -AND THEY WERE AT MY HOUSE AT 7:30AM), THEY FINISHED ON TIME (BY 5 PM), AND THEY LEFT THE PLACE SPOTLESS! I DID NOT FIND ANY NAILS OR DEBRIS ANYWHERE...I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN THEY WERE THERE EXCEPT FOR THE PICTURES THEY SENT ME!

Tom was great to work with. During the bid process he was patient with me and took the time to answer all my questions. He did not rush my decision and even encouraged me to get additional quotes after I told him he was almost double the cost of the two competing contractors. However he understood the rules and regulations of working in Old Town Alexandria which the other vendors seemed oblivious to. He took care of getting the building permits and all the city paperwork, which is no easy task. He kept me updated throughout the entire process. I was out of town when the roof was replaced and when I came home there were a few items that needed to be taken care of, Tom came out the next day and took care of all of them, no questions asked.

Several of our neighbors used Lyons Contracting for their roofs and they look great, so when ours started leaking we called Lyons, among several other companies. Unlike the other companies, Tom the owner took time to talk to us about our goals (if we would be selling or adding on in the near future) and actually got up on the roof and checked it out (I was amazed other companies gave estimates without actually going up on our roof). While there to give us a FREE estimate, Tom found and FIXED (for free without being asked) our leak, saying that we could wait a year or two to get a new one. We decided the timing was right for us and moved forward with the new roof. Tom always answered emails right away and answered all of our questions. We are new home owners and had a lot of questions. We scheduled the roof and Tom communicated to us what we needed to do and what would happen every step of the process. His crew was professional, showed up on time and was very courteous. They worked quickly and competed the job in a day. They also did a great job cleaning up. The estimate was almost spot on, there were a couple more ft of decking that needed to be replaced but it was not significantly more than Tom originally estimated.

Due to the height of the home, the slope of the roof and the location of the site, Tom was not able to take the job. He did, however, spend quite a bit of time explaining what he saw using his state-of-the-art roofing software and providing a ballpark estimate for what the job might cost. It says a lot when a professional is willing to spend his time educating a consumer, even though he knows he will not be hired to do the work.

Lyons responded promptly to my initial inquiry and provided an estimate within 2 days. They secured necessary permits (I live in an historic district) and performed the job within a few weeks. They completed the job in one day and cleaned up thoroughly. Because of the style of my house (flounder) and its position in a row of houses, the roof is unable to be viewed from the street level; however, Lyons kept me updated and texted photos throughout the project. Lyons was prompt, courteous, and a pleasure to work with.

Tom was awesome! He gave a thorough estimate (with options if we wanted to patch the existing roof or remove and put on a new roof). Responded quickly to all questions and took modifications with no issues (we had a new bathroom fan installed and Tom was happy to install a vent for us). Due to the age of the roof (and duration that it was in disrepair) we had to replace a lot of extra plywood (which increased the cost) but the crew were great about showing what was replaced and why.

I was referred to Lyons via a local list serve and was pleased to find such positive feedback on Angie's List. As a new homeowner, I did my due diligence in securing 3 bids and Lyons was the most competitive. Based on the referral, quote, and Lyons being a local business, I decided to secure them for the project. I worked with Tom Petrilli throughout the process and he was very easy to work with - gave me clear expectations. Our project was delayed due to squirrel trapping that needed to first take place but Tom kept checking in and once I received the all clear, was able to schedule me in. He had an opening about a week ahead of schedule and with a good sized crew was able to come in and in one day, replace my roof including some rotted decking. Everything was smooth sailing - new roof looks great, no project mess, and I received updates and photos through the process. Tom advised that he and the crew stand 100% behind their work and will come out in a year to perform an inspection and ensure things are good. Highly recommend Lyons!
