Kingstowne Lawn & Landscape was established by Krisjan Berzins and Phil Williams in 1997. Both graduated in 1993 from Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia, and were members of the varsity football team when they began their friendship. Phil attended Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he studied sociology. Krisjan attended Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, where he studied international business. Krisjan’s experience working in grounds maintenance at the Mount Vernon Country Club and Phil’s discipline and strong business sense formed the foundation for an ideal partnership, and the two began working together in 1997. After only 10 years in business, they had grown Kingstowne Lawn & Landscape into one of the most recognized landscape brands in Northern Virginia—with annual gross revenues of more than $5 million. In early 2008, Krisjan purchased Phil’s share of the corporation and became sole owner of Kingstowne Lawn & Landscape. While he was disappointed to see Phil go, Krisjan knew that he was ready to write the next chapter of the Kingstowne story. Today, nearly 20 successful years of business, Krisjan and his wife, Mayra, head a strong company with over 50 employees, 25 trucks, and 13 acre corporate campus, inside the beltway, in Alexandria, Virginia. Their company’s success lies in the firm belief that every customer should be treated as the “only” customer!

"The customer signed up for mowing in April of 2014. On the original contract, our Account Manager specifically noted the property boundaries in the back. His property backed up to an open HOA common area so we wanted to be specific as to how far off the back of the house we were to mow. This was not a problem with the customer. After the 1st mowing, the crew left our Account Manager a note stating they probably should not line trim along certain areas of the foundation due to the foundation being sprayed with some type of silicone barrier to help with installation. The crew noted that whoever was previously mowing the property had done damage along the foundation and we did not want to do further damage. At that point we notified the customer of this issue and he responded via email. We explained that we would have to hand trim the areas if he wanted and, unfortunately, there would be an additional charge for this. Below is his email response to us thanking us for pointing this out in a proactive manner. "Thanks for taking the time to take these pictures. I have noticed these damages from the previous mowing team (actually from the team three seasons ago). Great job." After a couple of weeks of mowing, we received an email from the customer, saying the mowing crew had broken a irrigation head. Our Account Manager stopped by and took a look. The customer had placed the sprinkler head on the walk/patio area right next to where it was broken. The head was located next to the back patio/walk in a location that the mower would not have been able to do damage. This would have been an area that would be line trimmed. We also had our Operations Manager take a look and he agreed that this head was probably already broken before we started service on his property and popped out when the irrigation system was started up for the year. However, we did not argue and we went ahead and replaced the irrigation head at no cost to the customer. We then received an email from the customer saying we were not mowing far enough down into his back area. The property next to him had someone mowing lower into the common area and he wanted his lawn to look the same. We discussed this and informed him that, per the contract, this area was not included in his original price. However, we certainly could include the extra area but would need to increase the price of his mowing to cover the additional time. Soon after, we received an email asking for us to terminate mowing at his property. We feel badly about the way things ended and we hope that there is another contractor out there that can satisfy this customer. We honestly feel that we did everything within our power to satisfy this customer. However, it seems as though this just wasn't meant to be. In this case...unfortunately, our best just wasn't good enough."
"Thanks soooo much for the WONDERFUL review! You made our day =)"
After moving we kept the service the previous owner was using., Kingstowne Lawn & Landscape. The office staff have been extremely responsive and helpful, even calling the previous owner to inquire about the change over. They are easy to get in touch with over email and their electronic contract system is very convenient. The actual lawn crew that comes to mow are professional, efficient and do an excellent job on our lawn. I'm impressed and would recommend them to anyone.
"Thanks so much for taking the time to post this review. Sincerely, Krisjan Berzins | President & CEO"
