Expert Fence

We had a large complicated job with over 900 feet of fence. The salesman, Kris Pedersen, did an excellent job of working through the possible options. Where other companies refused to consider different approaches to the challenges involved in our job, such as the need to cross a stream, Kris kept an open mind and worked diligently to find the best solution. He even brought the owner, Dave, out to consult with us. Before choosing Expert Fence, we looked at several examples of their past work in both board and split rail. They offer upgrade options for both that really set them apart from the competition. While we ended up choosing a board fence, their split rail sourced from West Virginia is very unusual and impressive.  We got five other bids. The only other company we' found that could compete in terms of quality quoted a price that was about 40% higher. We formed a trust relationship with Kris and Dave that was hard to duplicate with the site supervisor, Jose, once the actual work began.  Knowing Spanish well enough to understand some of what he said to the crew did not help. But whatever concerns we had about Jose (the supervisor) were more than made up for by Jose (the installer). The second Jose was a true craftsman as were, seemingly, all of the people Expert Fence chose to work on our job. Expert Fence exceeded the specifications for our job by, for example, using a bag of concrete on every post, rather than every third post as specified in our contract, at no extra charge. We bought a large fixer-upper house, which means we've hired a lot of tradespeople recently -- plumbers, electricians, HVAC, flooring, etc. Of all the jobs we've had done on our house, our fence project has come out the best. We would recommend Expert Fence highly and without reservation.

The recent hurricane damaged the fence at the back of our lot that is owned by our neighbors.  They decided not to repair or replace the fence and we needed to do something because we have several dogs.
We contacted Expert Fence after checking Angie's List and Consumer Checkbook.  Kris Pederson came out and discussed the options and took measurements.  He provided an estimate with a variety of options within a couple of days.  We decided we wanted to change the configuration so as to have more privacy and asked Kris to re-work the estimate.  He did this very quickly.  We decided to go with their proposal.  They were able to schedule the work quickly (within three weeks, I think).  The entire job was done in just a little over two days.
The fence is beautiful!  It transforms our backyard - it now feels like an outdoor room.  The cedar is beautiful.  The Expert Fence crew worked quickly and they cleaned up.  We didn't find a nail, a cigarette butt, a water bottle, a soda can, NOTHING.  The area was spotless.  They took away the old fencing that we had them remove.
Kris was a pleasure to work with.  This price was competitive.  The fence is beautiful.  I would recommend them and I would use them again.

In cooperation with our neighbors, we had Expert Fencing come out and remove all the fencing that had been in place since the 80's.  They removed all the fence, including the 4x4 posts along the sides.  when they got to the 6x6 posts near the gate, they realized that they had been buried 5 feet down, with bags of concrete thrown in.  They had to jackhammer out the two main posts, while not damaging the stairs.  Once done, they replaced all the posts with 6x6, and installed cedar planks.  As a final touch, they installed an Arbor over the gate.  They also removed the old trash bin, and replaced with with a new box that mirrored the fence.  Upon completion of the job, they cleaned all the lumber and made sure there were no nails around.  I do wish they would have removed all the excess dirt from the holes, but everything else went well.  We had an issue with the gate, and they came out the day after we called to fix the issue.  Since we completed the fence, two additional neighbors have had them install a similar fence, and additional neighbors are considering having theirs replaced as well.  I recommended them to a friend, and he had them out to complete a fence line.  We have been extremely happy with our new fence.

Had narrow window when work had to be completed, and company did the work within that time frame. Impressed with quality of work and work ethic of installers. It's my understanding that company was sold awhile back and that there can be problems, but I didn't experience any.

I contacted their office and asked to schedule someone to come provide an estimate to replace large sections of a split rail fence.  The employee answering the phone took all of my information down and said she would get back in touch with me later that day to schedule an estimate.  After two weeks, she still has never called me back.  I assume they didn't want my money/need my business if they can't return phone calls as she said she would.  ----Update:  I finally recieved a call from them 3 weeks after contacting them.  I already had several other estimates to go with so I didn't schedule anything with them.  It's nice they finally contacted me but it shouldn't have taken so long.

I would not recommend Expert Fence for two reasons.

First, they do not honor their five year warranty. Although I have phoned and e-mailed multiple times over the last month, they continue to make excuses and have failed to fix the hand-welded section of my driveway gate. At the time of installation the owner assured me that this hand-welded section would last as long as the factory welded parts, but it has not and I am close to loosing total gate security because the hand-welded driveway gate parts have separated by more than 50%.  

The second problem with my Expert Fence installation is their Magna Latch choice. My locks freeze during the winter making me a prisoner on my own property and necessitating that I climb the side yard fence to access the public street from my property. When I told them about this problem during the first winter season after the two locking gates were installed in my front yard fence, they dismissed my concern by merely stating ?We?ve never heard of that.? No one ever came to see the frozen locks. If the locks were intended for gates surrounding outdoor swimming pools and have never been tested in cold weather for year round use around residential property without swimming pools, Expert Fence may find itself facing product liability issues. It?s not only inconvenient to have to climb a fence and wonder if you?ll be able to drive your car out of your own driveway if the driveway gate lock freezes in the winter, but could pose significant danger in an emergency situation. Since Expert Fence does not care to remedy either of these problems, I would not recommend them to anyone.

Overall, the cedar fence is beautiful and would highly recommend having that kind of fence done by this group.  The chain link fence could have been done much better.

The guy who came out from Expert Fence and gave me the quote was very nice. Everything was great except that Expert Fence were highly booked at that time and said it would take a little longer too get my job done. That is why I went to another company.

Company gave me an estimate (although they were several days late on this), and then never resonded to my 2 emails and a phone call with inquiries regarding initiating the work.  So, I used a different company.

It hasn't "gone" yet.

While I thought the estimate was fair, I decided to use another company.

When I initially contacted Expert Fenced they took longer to get back to me than I would have liked. In fact, I called them back again myself before I finally got a good response. After that initial issue, everything went smoothly. Joe arrived right on time and did a good job explaining our options and giving us an estimate. The work crew had a cancelation and called to see if they could come a day early. In a little over a day of work, they installed an attractive, sturdy fence. We got just what we asked for. They cleaned up nicely afterwards too.

The owner personally came out to do an estimate to replace part of the fence in the backyard of our townhouse.  He was fantastic, explained the entire process, and the company was reasonably priced.  All the work was done as promised and in a timely fashion. Would highly recommend the company.

We had to have some bids done.  They did a great job.  It was quick.  The quality was good.  We were very pleased with the final product.  They cleaned up well.  They didn't leave a mess.  We got a couple of bids out.  They were the most competitive; we were happy with their price.

I liked the estimator very much and Expert Fence was one of two finalists for the project, which involved splitting of some of the cost with my neighbor, since we shared a common fence. I had a few extras I wanted done on my side in addition to the shared fence, and for which I paid an additional amount. In the end we went with the other company based solely on the cost of the shared portion, which was less expensive for my neighbor and seemed to be the fairest decision in this particular case.

Expert Fence had constructed the fence between our property and the neighbor about 4 years ago, so I asked for a quote when we had to rebuild the fence at the back of the property. I gave a C on punctuality since he did show up, but he spent most of his time asking about things I had in the yard, and showing me what another customer had just given him. He wrote down a few specs and I never heard from him again...perhaps the job was too small. There is a problematic tree in the corner and perhaps he simply didn't want to deal with it. Or I wasn't willing to give him the things he liked that were lying about.

They were very prompt, and they gave us a fair estimate. We had a problem with the gate, and they were very prompt to return and  fix it.  We would use them again.

They were very responsive, which was nice since I live out of state.  Everything was done in a timely manner, and they also did a great job cleaning up.  The fence looks very nice, and I was pleased with their work.

Every bit of their business practice is top notch.

the estimator came out within 48 hours of my first contact and the work was done the following week. the two man crew who did the work was fast and did great work, cleaned up after themselves and were friendly. the new fence looks and works great!  overall, a very pleasant experience. their price was about half of the big fence company's quote.

Requested estimate from the original fence company to repair loose gate hinges.  Expert Fence estimate was $350 to replace the hinge hardware on a 3 foot high door, sent by email with link to a picture.  Asking about the hinges in the picture the price became $390.  The hinges failed due to the undersized bolts originally installed by Expert Fence. I thought I would ask Expert Fence for an estimate, since they originally installed the fence, gate and hardware and would be simpler to repair their your own work.  .

I never received a call back from the message posted to their web page contact section, so after a few days I called.  Kris eventually contacted me and through several phone conversations, stayed in contact from the initial phone conversation to the completed estimate and follow-up email question.  He stated that he visited my house, saw my fence gate, a personally made the estimate. This whole process seemed a little inefficient.

I decide not to ask Expert Fence to repair my loose hinges, or for the estimate to replace the hinges as the price was too high.  I plan to make a trip to the store and buy better bolts, re-drill the holes and tighten an otherwise perfect hinge set and save $350 to $390 dollars.

The crew was very ready to go at 7:30 am, but the crew chief was still very careful to answer my last minute questions and work out last minute details.

Kris came out on the date and time we had scheduled with their office.  He spent lots of time measuring, and making suggestions as to fence style, and latch choice that we hadn't even considered.   Glad we took his advice.  We also had a fairly lengthy list of questions which he answered to our satisfaction, and relief.  He got back to us with an estimate in a timely manner.  Only glitch was a miscommunication between him and the work crew about a start date.  They didn't show on our scheduled day. Kris was very responsive and apologetic.  Got that straightened out and they arrived exactly on time for the reschedule.  Crew foreman was very pleasant and professional.  They completed the work in one day as promised.  They also provided some "chicken wire" for free on an unrelated project saving us the expense of buying a whole roll.  We felt that they gave us a dynamite price.  Everything went fine.  The fence is much nicer than we expected.  This was not a huge job, and the first company we called spent all of 5 minutes looking at the property.  They promised an estimate in three days.  They never responded, despite repeated phone calls.  We highly recommend Expert Fence.

On time, on budget, excellent job, pleasure to do business with.
