The office staff was terrific on the phone. They were prompt and responded to me very quickly. They were delighted to accept my coupon and apply it to the bill. They sent me a contract and a copy of their business license and insurance. As soon as I signed the contract and faxed it to them they came the next morning. They sent 3 men to do the job. They were all easy to communicate with and very polite. They did not leave until they were sure I was happy. They cleaned up well after themselves and were just great.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for tree service that was $150 for $300 worth of work. The job was $350, so I paid the extra $50 to them. They trimmed and cut back some very large shrubbery.

From the beginning when I got estimates, they showed up when expected, sent me their proposal within the timeframe they told me to expect it and everytime I called the office with questions, they were immediately addressed. I felt that customer satisfaction was a priority for this company, whenever I had a request, they went out of their way to accommodate me. When I asked to get the trees removed prior to my roof installation, they made it work.
Description of Work: Removed two cedar trees that flanked the front of the house on each end, removed one maple tree on the side, removed a sapling from the back yard and removed a large loose hanging branch from a large maple tree in the back. The team showed up when expected and was very professional and everything went smoothly, no mishaps. You would never know they had been here, they left the place exactly how it was when they showed up, only minus the trees. Excellent job.

I bought the Big Deal thinking the company was in another part of the country. I emailed them asking how to cancel the Deal and they replied very quickly, apologizing and guiding me to Angie's List to collect my refund, which I am currently doing. I was impressed with the speed at which they replied.

Overall, the job was well done, and quickly done. Since the stump grinding was near buried utilities, I had to call Miss Utility myself to ensure the lines were marked. The crew arrived on time, got right to work and cleaned up when they were finished. The job was near several other existing planted areas and a paver patio, and they were careful to ensure there was no damage to the plants or patio.

The team was on time, did the work in a very professional manner and removed the wood in small pieces without damage to my lawn or deck. My next door neighbor watched the operation and compared Absolute Tree to a service he had used to remove a number of trees and was totally amazed by the difference in both quality and professionalism.
Description of Work: Absolute Tree took out 3 large Poplars that were 85 feet high, one with a double stem. All were within 15 feet of the rear of my house, with one leaning substantially towards the house. I sought three bids based on Angies List recommendations from other membeers and Absolute Tree's estimate was the lowest for the work I had done. Absolute Tree honered the Angies List 10% discount (you must mention that you heard about them at the start of the estimating process).

The morning of the job, the crew arrived promptly at 0730 and began work at 0800. There seemed to be people all over the yard working on the three different trees simultaneously. They worked steadily all day, with the exception of a short break around Lunch time. The pruning crew finished before the removal crew, but then they all worked hard to finish up the removal of the third tree. They came to the door to let me know they were finished. There was a concern that the stump had not been ground yet, but we were assured someone would be out the next day to grind the stump as per our contract. The next day a gentleman arrived around noon time and ground the stump as promised. Overall, both the office staff and the actual tree workers were great with communication and getting the job done correctly and safely. Taking down a tree that tall is no small feat and my hats are off to these folks for doing it as well as they did with minimal interruptions to our daily schedule. We will most certainly use Absolute Tree again when we need tree work done. Thanks!
Description of Work: Our home is around 60 years old and had three HUGE trees in the yard when we purchased it last summer. Two of the trees were in decent shape. They just needed a really good pruning as it was obvious they had not been cared for in quite some time. The third tree was not so fortunate. We had multiple tree companies come out in the hopes we could find a way to save it. All agreed that the tree was mostly dead and could not be saved.

This is the second time we have used Ashley and his company and will definitely use them again for any work. His guys are very professional and do an extremely thorough job! The only issue we had was in getting in touch with them, but it is a non-issue (in reality) because they are on top of the problem. When they get busy, he is constantly on the move and so it is sometimes difficult for him to stay in contact with everyone but they have not forgotten and will be there to get the job done! Definitely use them!

Working with Absolute Tree was a good experience. We arranged for everything by email, although they were a little slow getting the work scheduled after I returned the proposal. The only reason I rated the price a B instead of an A is that I'm not exactly sure I received $300 in services. The proposal only showed a total due of $0 and not what the service would normally cost. The work itself was done well and accomplished what I wanted, which was to remove the branches that were too close to the front of the house. The workmen did the job quickly and cleaned up the area before leaving. I will use Absolute Tree's services again in the future.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal from Absolute Tree, getting $300 of services for $150. Specifically, I needed to have a tree in the front yard of our townhouse trimmed and, based on past experience, I knew it would normally cost most than $150. It was not a major job and the services were performed as requested.

Overall, a great deal! Very professional crew arrived on time and cleaned up all of the debris from their tree pruning and crowning work. Although it was a relatively small job, they had to work around live power lines and for the price, it was well worth paying this group of professionals to perform the work.

I contacted the company on a Friday in earlyJune and was told that someone would come on Monday to give an estimate. He came on Saturday morning and on Monday I received a pleasant note and an estimate for the work discussed. I replied that we had decided to omit one tree removal and subtracted that amount from the total and said that I had purchased a 'Big Deal' certificate, and assumed that the total would be $300 less because of that. I said that I did want to have some work done, though a reduced amount. I never heard from them again. Before I went away for many weeks, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, and wrote that since we were going away, the work should be done when we returned in mid-September. Again, we never heard from them. I will be contacting another company. .

I am afraid I would not use them again. They did great removal, but failed to finish the debris removal. I ended up paying them the lowest estimate given as that was the work they had actually done. They do great work, are just lacking in their estimates, bookeeping, and customer relations as a company.
Description of Work: Tree removal at my parent's home. Front yard. I requeste an email estimate and was quite careful on what to request. We bantered back and forth on taking away the debris, wood removal or saving, using the Angie's discount--- After the third quote---surprise, the work had already been done before I received that final quote and the work to be done had been established. They did a great job removing the tree, but left huge pieces of wood and all the chips and raised the estimate several hundred to remove them, which was not done in the end. It became obvious that debris removal was not in their scope. A month later we had another tree removed and that company 'cleaned up the mess' Absolute had left, spread topsoil and seeded and the yard now looks great.

We had a emal from the customer to schedule this job. In our estimate under stump removal it reads "all wood chips from the stump stay on site" this is standard unless we are asked to remove the chips which is an additional charge. We would have gladly removed the chips with a simple phone call. We are very sorry for this confustion.

Overall the tree removal went pretty good. They were prompt and finished quickly. My only complaint was the price. $1600 for one tree is a ripoff. We were a repeat customer so we had asked for a discount, and they only gave us not even 6%, and even that, the price was still way too high. Granted the tree was of good size, but other tree removal services in the area quoted me $1200 and $1300. Come on guys, I know this was post Hurricane Sandy, but you obviously were not hurting for business so the price we agreed to I was not very happy with. Understood this included the chipper as well, but we didn't even get any firewood out of it, which in hindsight we should have done. Looking back we had to get the tree removed from our porch, as it was pretty much an emergency, so I guess we're at the mercy of the providers when you have no other choice. I would recommend them only if you can't get a better price from other Angie's list contractors. Get your price up front then see what other Angie's list contractors quote you, then see what they say.

We do not give discounts during storm related jobs due to the overhead and high payroll. We would have left all the wood the customer needed as we remove trees daily with multiple crews. This was a lack of communication between the customer and us. We would rather leave wood then remove it.

It is about trimming a large oak tree in my backyard. It was in Summer when I called it 1st time for estimate. I was told to call again later after the hurricane season was over. It's understandable because it was too busy and mine was not an emergency. I called again months later and left a message. I did not get a call back in the following week. A lady picked up when I tried again. She's nice and professional. An estimate appointment was smoothly set up. I provided my cell number and emphasized that I would be available around home. I did not get a call and hear a door knock on the appointment day. But I received an estimate in an email a few days later. To my surprise, the estimate is about a large bush but not the large oak tree. Only two large plants I have in the backyard are one oak tree and one large bush. I was wondering how it could be misidentified. The estimate is too high. Too many hassles; so, I gave it up.

Well, let's get this out of the way first- tree work is ridiculously expensive. By my math, the hourly rate ranks up there with lawyers. I assume that a lot of this is the upkeep of insurance, etc. for what is clearly dangerous and risky work. With the beech tree towering over our house and a bunch of power lines, this wasn't one we were going to leave to a "tree guy" from the hills of Appalachia, so I knew we needed a licensed and insured tree service. We got 5 estimates and Absolute Tree ultimately came in quite a bit cheaper than the others. Like the other companies we requested estimates from, that part of the process was quick. They came out as scheduled, looked around, and sent us a proposal within a few days. Because the proposals I received from the different providers didn't all end up covering the exact same services, once I had a chance to review them all, I needed to have Absolute (which appeared to be the best value) come out for a second look to add some scope to the job, which they did. After I signed the proposal from Absolute, the next phase was a bit frustrating. Because of the location of the work, I needed to have Dominion Power come out and "bless" the work and/or do some pre-work to clear the trees away from the above ground power lines. I had already opened a work order with Dominion and communicated that to Ashley Davis (owner of Absolute Trees). Ashley then contacted Dominion and opened a NEW work order with them. Over a period of nearly a month, I pinged Ashley a few times to see if he'd heard anything and his responsiveness was spotty. I had assumed he had taken over the communication with Dominion, but he clearly wasn't being proactive in trying to engage them so we could move the project forward. This was not a huge deal, as the timing of the project wasn't too critical, though I did want to get the beech (which was deemed structurally unsound) down as soon as possible. I eventually got back in the loop with Dominion (after a month or so) and got that moving forward. Once that was done, I communicated that to Ashley and he was slow to respond. All of this was compounded by the recent hurricane, so they got buried with other emergency work for a couple weeks after. Again, all of this coordination and communication stuff was a relatively minor blip in what I think was a good service from the company, but I feel it's worth noting for customers who have a really time sensitive job. Also, I should point out that the delay was with Dominion Power getting out to clear the lines, so it's hard to say whether we could have accelerated that much / any by being more proactive on the coordination, but I would have liked to see a little more follow-through on this. Once the work was scheduled, they showed up early that morning and delivered as planned. In what was a pretty long day (maybe 10 hours), they blasted away at the trees. They started with what I think was one (maybe two?) "crews" of guys. I think it was 5-6 guys. They worked without any real input from me, though I wanted to be home during the work. At some point, I wanted to make sure that the job lead was aware of some nuances of what I was looking for and he seemed a little unclear about whether something I was asking for was in scope. I showed him the proposal and he agreed with what I was asking for, no issue. Then, mid-day, I needed to be out for a few hours, no problem. When I returned, it was early evening, and the (now expanded) team was still working. There was one issue where they had not trimmed away one of the trees back from my house as much as I wanted and they got up there and took care of it. Overall, they did the full scope of what I was looking for, didn't do any damage to my property, and got everything cleared out. Based on the bids I got, this was a great value for a fine performance. If I need tree work in the future, I would start with Absolute Tree.

The Big deal clearly states that the coupone can not be applied to current or past jobs. This job was already sold and scheduled. We did offer the normal 10% to this "potential" customer. As we arrived he called the office. I (Ashley Davis, the owner) answered the phone. He wanted to apply the deal we were offering at that time which i could not honor. He became very angry so i had the crew leave the property. This deal has created some confusion so we ended up closing the deal and doing away with it. We are very sorry for the confusion. t They did an OK job. Only after pruning the spruce did they tell me that it was infected with an insect or worm that would kill it in a year or two. That annoyed me, since it they had told me before hand, I might have asked them to cut it down. Also, I thought their price was high. I had paid $150 for an Angie's list deal. They knew this. They charged another $625 on top of that. In the future, I would not inform a vendor that I had a coupon until getting their quote. Furthermore, my neighbor asked them to remove a stump in his yard that was next to a live tree. He warned them not to cut the roots of the live tree. According to him, they did cut the roots when he wasn't looking and, as a result, his tree, a large maple, started to die and rot at the base and had to be cut down a year later (just this week actually.)

Someone came out to inspect the tree while we were not home which was extremely convenient. They called and gave us the recommendation that the tree be removed and explained why they made that recommendation. A quote was quickly emailed to us and an Angie's List discount automatically applied. We were able to schedule the remove for shortly after we got the qoute. The day they removed the tree there were about 15 men to help. They estimated it would take five hours (9-2) but they were there until 5:30 or 6:00 (I wasn't home to verify whether they arrived right at 9). What impressed me most was what a wonderful job they did removing the tree and cleaning the property. There was saw dust everywhere and when they left, except for the missing tree, you wouldn't have known they were there. I already recommended them to a neighbor who is also using them to remove two trees in their yard. I would use them again and highly recommend their service.

I asked about applying a treatment to the wounded branches which they advised was not needed or done any longer. I accept this but did not know this beforehand. I think they realized also that I had not gotten much of a deal. They gave me a "discount" estimate on taking down another tree which I later found not to be much of a deal either.
Description of Work: I could have done what they (3 men with one tree trimmer) did. The tree in question was a prized Magnolia tree, about 18 feet high, that was damaged in a storm and had 4 broken limbs. I had to ask them to trim a few more branches which were obviously not very attractive and in the way. I did not feel confident that they had much knowledge beyond how to mechancally operate the tree trimmer. I was hoping for some information about keeping the tree healthy and some artful shaping.
