Veterinarians,

About us

Welcome to University Veterinary Hospital and Diagnostic Center! Think going to the doctor is nerve-wracking? Chances are, so do your beloved four-legged companions. The folks at University Veterinary Hospital & Diagnostic Center (UVHDC) know this. And ever since they opened their doors 20 years ago, they’ve worked hard to provide a warm, compassionate and loving environment for pets and pet owners. When it comes to providing enhanced service and care, the University Veterinary Hospital & Diagnostic Center (UVHDC) healthcare team is expert at “Care and Service from the Heart.” After more than two decades in the 9th & 9th neighborhood of Salt Lake City, the locally-owned and operated hospital (formerly University Pet Clinic) is going strong with an updated and expanded location — just across the street from their old home. Four-legged members of your family now enjoy the inviting state-of-the-art facility with its no-stress, calming environment. Waiting room guests can sit by the fireplace while enjoying one of the hospital’s home-baked cookies. Natural light is integral to relaxed feeling not only in the patient area, but also where UVHDC’s talented team of veterinary technicians, client service personnel and five veterinarians work to keep their patients healthy, happy and as comfortable as possible. Leading edge technology in laser surgery, diagnostic testing, chemotherapy, ultrasonography, anesthetic monitoring, intensive care and even Utah’s first veterinary CT scanner, comes in a warm, loving environment. Preventative care and dental services keep pet health at an optimum level. These are just a few of the exceptional services UVHDC provides in the new facility. Whether patients come in for a routine wellness exam, dental cleaning or a stay in the ICU, they get care, love and attention from the talented technicians, customer service team and veterinarians at the hospital. UVHDC has one of Utah’s only two general practitioners board-certified in dog and cat practice, and is among only 15 percent of U.S. veterinary hospitals accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association for exemplary care and service. UVHDC is exceptionally proud to be the 2008-2011 Best of State medal winner in their business category. Why go to such great lengths? University Veterinary Hospital and Diagnostic Center replies simply “Because we’re doing what we love and loving what we do”. Great customer service is only natural when compassion is part of the business. Every staff member treats patients as if they were members of their own family. And it’s why UVHDC has had a loyal following for 20+ years running. Our goal is to serve your pet with excellent service and friendly compassion at a fair price - our “Care and Service from the Heart.” Call us today for an appointment!

The vets, techs and front desk staff at this clinic are absolutely excellent! We have used them for annual exams/shots for our dogs and are always impressed with their service. They have multiple seating areas in the lobby which makes it easy to keep my doggies away from cats or other animals that they may not like. My Boxer recently needed oral surgery to correct an overgrowth of gums. The vets were fantastic and really seemed to care about my dog's health and the outcome of the surgery. They gave me an cost estimate that included the usual price of the surgery and any additional costs that might be incurred if they encountered any other issues. It was nice to have an estimate that included a best and worse case scenerio rather than being surprised with a high bill after the surgery. Luckily, everything went well and we only had to pay the "low" estimate. Overall, University Vet Clinic has far exceeded my expectations and I will continue to entrust my furry babies to their care.

It is more expensive than most so that is the only downside but I liked the clinic and dealt with vet over the phone which was nice.

As described above, our cat is alive and thriving despite advanced age and severe trauma from a dog attack. We did not expect that he would survive this and commend University Pet Clinic for their outstanding care and immediate service (the dog attack happened on a holiday weekend!).

Dr. McCarron is just a really good veterinarian. She goes above and beyond. She feels more like a friend to me. She is always honest with me. We have used her for checkups, vaccines, surgeries, and also chemotherapy for my pets. She also has called us up to five days to make sure our pet is doing okay. She is a very caring person.

Their professionalism really stands out. They actually saved my dogs life and were absolutely amazing. He had been to another clinic that was out of state that missed the tumor he had, so they performed surgery on him. It's been a year and he's doing awesome. I've never been to a vet where the dog didn't bark at the dog, but these people are so good with the animals that the dogs walk in there thinking they're rock stars. I've never seen one not go in with its tail wagging and happy to be there. The staff actually greets the pet basically at the door by name. They give them treats and talk to them. They make them comfortable, so my dog actually enjoys going to this vet.

The last visit was a follow-up for a UTI in my girl dog. They got the urine, ran the test while we waited and we left with the good news that she was clear of infection.

Start to finish experience was great. I have seen some reviews about them being expensive but I thought they were fair and reasonable.

My dog was not acting normally (including sluggishness and was at the beginning stages of developing an oddly mushy belly). I had a *very* strong feeling something was very wrong. The vet was a pleasant person, very professional, and after examining the dog said nothing was wrong. I subsequently visited another vet who accurately diagnosed the dog as having a tumor. (The second opinion was from Dr. Larimer from Sugarhouse--don't go there for sure--University is WAY better. However, within a half hour he had diagnosed a tumor. He operated the next day and the dog subsequently died in the Sugarhouse vet's care.) The vet at University was simply wrong. I don't begrudge the misdiagnosis because they were very professional with me and when the vet later found out the dog had died was truly distressed at both my loss and I'm sure at her inaccuracy. The reason I'd consider going back (though I am now at a different vet, so don't need to) is that she was very nice and does have a great reputation.

Everything went very well. One of our cats has epilepsy and needs his medication twice daily. He is also has some behavioral "issues". The staff are excellent with him!

They are amazing. I wish my doctor treated me this well. The same doctor and veterinarian technician treats my cat each time, so they know her and her (difficult) personality. The doctor, Dr. Lequien, has returned my calls at night, and has called on the days after appointments to check to see how my cat was doing. (The evening call was following surgery when I had called with questions.) The hospital is immaculate, and the staff attentive and professional. I've used them for regular check-ups/vaccines, and for surgery (de-clawing). I'm not sure how they compare price-wise, as I never checked anywhere else, and this is the first pet I've had in 20 years. It may be a bit higher than other places, but it is well worth the cost and peace of mind that your pet will be ok and well taken care of.

I love using this veterinarian, and I think they are very caring and genuine. They made lots of follow up calls with me, to make sure my cat was doing okay on his pain medication and antibiotics. The rates were what I expected them to be.

They are very good with my dogs and I like how fast they follow through with the appointments. If you have an appointment at 2pm usually at 2 pm is when you are going to be seen. The register agents are very nice and I am very comfortable taking my pets there.

I think they have great service, but their rates are really expensive. I would still recommend using them if you can afford them. I ended up switching to another animal clinic. However, I did use them for 10 years before I switched.

The clinic mails a reminder for the yearly shots. The technicians, receptionists and veterinarians are very knowledgeable, pleasant and truly care about my pet. There are 5 veterinarians who are of superb quality.

The staff here was extremely compassionate with the situation and was very knowledgeable about the condition and possible treatments. This clinic has an outstanding reputation and the facility is brand new and state of the art. I like the fact that the people here love the animals and were so compassionate and caring to us and our pet. The prices are a little higher here, but it is A-1, top notch service that you will get for your money.

We love how much more healthy our cat has become. The price was a bit high, mostly because some of the teeth were so badly impacted that they had to keep operating longer than expected. But they did a great job making sure that our cat was comfortable before and after the extractions; we got calls a couple days and a week after the extractions. We took home anti-biotics and painkillers to help her improve. The result is that our cat is eating again, no longer drooling, and her death-breath is gone. She's her former self.

I have been taking my pets to UPC for 11 years. The owner, Lynn McCarron, DVM has been board certified in veterinary medicine (beyond the usual training of vet school). The care our pets have received at UPC has been thoughtful and kind. They really understand the human-animal bond. They are not the cheapest, and don't have 24/7 hours, but do refer to a 24 hour emergency clinic in town.
