I've used Old Fashion Service a few times since I first went to them. I just wanted to give a newer review of this business. My car battery wasn't holding a charge. I called Max, the owner, and he could work on my car the day I needed to bring it in. Max checked a couple things with the battery and alternator. It turned out to be the alternator. I've always been pleased with their knowledge and I believe their prices are very fair.

It went very well. One, they saved me the money of replacing the torque converter. Two, they didn't even charge me a diagnostic fee. Which I tried to pay them because they are a business and deserve to get paid for their time and talents. Three, he explained the process and why?
Description of Work: I had my emissions tested and it failed do to the check engine light. I was told the torque converter needed to be replaced. I took it into Old Fashion to have it fixed. Max let me know the torque converter was fine and that the computer program had a glitch and needed to be reset by Dodge. I looked it up on the internet and apparently this is a consistent issue with Dodge trucks.

During a routine oil change Larry H Miller Honda told us that our intermediate shaft bearing was leaking and needed replaced. They quoted us $375 to do this. I felt this was suspect ( LHM Honda always seem to find something else that needs to be done) and had Max and his crew take a look at the car. They found nothing wrong and said that the "leak" was just oil that was dripped down on the part during the service. Thank You so much Max. I love honest people who are good at their jobs.

My car had a shudder in the rear end in forward and reverse. I had some other work done at a Ford dealer and we were afraid to take the car back to them. Old Fashion Service was quick in getting my car in and discovered that the limmit slip was low on oil. That solved the problem. They also noticed that the Check Engine light was on and cleaned the maf sensor which I was very pleased about. I also felt that the bill was very fair and reasonable :-) Thank you, Old Fashion Service!

I've been taking all my cars to Max at Old Fashioned for almost 15 years. I started going there on the recommendation of a coworker who took his cars there even though he lived on the other side of town. Although this trip was for routine maintenance, this is where I take my cars for repairs when needed. They have been able to fix every problem I've brought to them, and have never had to take my car back because it wasn't fixed right the first time. I particulary like the fact that they will tell me if something doesn't need to be replaced. Simply put - I trust them!
Description of Work: My 2001 Ford F-150 pickup just clicked over 150,000 miles so I took my truck to Max at Old Fashioned Service for all the routine maintenance that needs to be done at 150,000 miles: changed automatic transmission fluid and filter, changed front axle lubricant, changed transfer case fluid, and inspected brakes and suspension. I also had them replace the brake pads on the rear end. They did a great job!

The service listed above is one of many that Old Fashion has provided us over the years. I have found them to be professional, honest, reliable and quick with repairs; usually at a cost that is much less than those offered at a dealership. With this specific incidence, they diagnosed and repaired the problem with my vehicle in a timely manner. Old Fashion came as a recommendation to me and I would recommend them to anyone.

I used Old Fashioned Service last year and was relatively satisfied with their work and they are fairly close to my house, so I tried them again. I have a '77 F-150 that was running rough. I don't know a lot about working on cars so I took the truck in to have the pros look at it. I called ahead and made sure to make an appointment because I needed to use my truck, not have it sitting in the parking lot of a auto garage, waiting to be worked on. They told me to bring my truck in on a Thursday morning and it wasn't until Saturday at noon that I heard from the owner. He was just calling to let me know where they were at in the process. I had asked them to check out why my truck was running roughly and to do what he could to fix it. I figured the valves might need adjusted, or the timing, or the points? I don't know, that is why I took it to the pros. Also, I wanted them to install a new reserve gas tank as the old one was un-useable. I had some extra cash in the bank, so I wanted to get my truck in decent shape. The owner told me they had adjusted the idle and I asked him if he was going to check anything else with the engine, and he said something like "well, that'll be a few hours just to get it apart." Basically he was saying he didn't want to do any engine work and that if I insisted, it would cost me an arm and a leg. I said "fine" and asked him to finish up everything else. I was irritated though because it was apparent that he didn't want to do the work that I really needed him to do. After the owner called on Saturday, I figured they'd be wrapping things up with my truck and that I'd be able to pick it up before they closed. My wife was out of town with her car and I had my 15 month old boy with me, so I put him in the stroller at about 3:30 in the afternoon, figuring that I could walk to the garage and drive my truck home. I had my cell phone and trusted that they would call me on that. I ended up walking near to the garage (which was about 2.5 miles from my house) and realized that they weren't going to have my truck ready because they didn't call. I was pretty disappointed because they are closed on Sunday and Monday so I wasn't going to have my truck back until Tuesday. I get home from my walk to the garage and see that the owner had called my home phone instead of my cell! He had called my cell earlier that day, so I figured he'd call it again. Nope. He left a message on my home phone saying that they just had a few things left to do and that they could finish it but if they didn't hear from me by closing time (which was 10 minutes from the time he called!) he would just finish it on Tuesday! I was so angry because I was so close to his garage and all he had to do was call my cell phone. Tuesday morning rolls around and they call at 10 AM to say my truck is ready. I pedal my bike down there and throw it in the back of my truck when I get there and what's in the back? My old gas tank, leaking gas! I go in and pay and he tells me everything that they did and I asked them if they made sure the new tank worked. He said "Oh, we didn't actually check it, the fuel sending unit was pretty rusty, etc, etc..." Did he think that I wanted it on there for looks? I haven't even used it yet because I'm afraid it will clog my carburetor with junk. I wanted them to test it, so they could get it working properly. Is that unreasonable? Also, I had to take 2 hours off of work the next day and drive out to the city dump to dispose of the old fuel tank. To top it all off, the truck still runs poorly.

They did not consider my vehicle to be a priority to them. They kept de-prioritizing it. They ignored it and it's problem. They did not want to find a solution to it's problem, they wanted to throw a few things at me and get me out the door. He told me when I picked it up that it was a problem with the catalytic converter, but it was a problem with the brakes. Every time I talked to them I felt as thought I was a low priority. He tried to pay attention to what I said, but he didn't come up with a professional opinion based on what I told him. He didn't want to do any diagnostic on it. They just wanted to get me off the door.

It was an unbelievably smooth process to get my car fixed and brought up to speed. I called them before I decided where to have AAA tow my 'dead' car and found out that they are a AAA shop. I was called almost immediately after my car was delivered there with an estimate. All was done promptly with absolutely no hassle. They will be getting my business from now on.
Description of Work: My car was 'dead' and needed to be towed to the shop by AAA. I needed a new alternator, but the battery was fine. I had just moved to this area and driven my 98 Eldorado across country to get here so I wanted all systems checked again, fluids changed, safety and emissions reports prepared, etc. The estimate for everything was just about exactly what I was charged. I found this repair shop through AL and can strongly recommend that others use their services.

For (1) they found the air flow regulator (or something like that) was faulty and charged me a grand total of $75 to replace it. They also replaced the fuel filter at my request ($45). For (2) they found that the oil filter was loose and consequently spraying oil everywhere. They cleaned up the oil, tightened the filter, and refilled the oil ($25). For (3) they found that the original problem for (1) was confusing the O2 sensors because there wasn't enough air in the system, and the on-board computer didn't know what to make of it, so it would cause the engine to race and then decide it was time to shift once the RPMs were WAY high! So, (3) was solved by their solution to (1)!!! Ultimately, for a grand total of $150 my van runs like it is practically brand new! Despite the 35 minute commute to get to their facility, I will definitely be using Old Fashion Service for both my vehicle maintenance needs.
Description of Work: After getting a quote for $1500.00 from a dealership (Gus Paulos Chevrolet) I looked these guys up on Angie's and decided to give them a try. I had three complaints with my vehicle that I asked them to investigate and recommend service. The issues were (1) the check engine light was on (again) and I suspected it had something to do with my fuel/exhaust line since I've been having recurring issues with the O2 sensor (replaced twice), the fuel pump (replaced once), and ultimately having replaced the catalytic converter (at $650) along with a fuel line flush. (2) A fairly significant oil leak (as evidenced on my otherwise clean driveway) had developed. (3) The transmission appeared to be shifting REALLY hard. The engine would rev really high, and then WHAM... it would slam into the next gear...practically giving us whiplash!

I dropped my car off at 8:30 in the morning and Max called me back at 11:00 or so with their findings. The Rattle---I thought I knew what it was. Max confirmed my idea: loose heat shields on my exhaust system. He gave me a couple of options. I took the one which called for $200.00 in parts alone. The Gas Mileage---Max told me the least expensive option to try first- new fuel filter and injection system cleaning. Have to drive awhile to see if this works. Airbag Light---needs a replacement control modual. Max called to tell the price and if I wanted them to fix it. They have the part on order and will call me when it arrives. When I called to pick up my car, Max told me they were able to patch up the exhaust system so the cost would be less then that for a replacement. Imagine that! Even after I had authorized the more expensive option, they took a less costly path. Car was ready when they said it would be and the bill was a pleasant surprise.
Description of Work: I had several problems that needed fixing. The first was a truly scary rattle in the front end of my car. The next problem was lowering gas mileage. Last was an airbag "light" was always on.

A few days later, my son was involved in an accident and the front right headlight got knocked right out of it's socket. We then took the vehicle back to Old Fashion Service for an emergency repair since my son had to get back to Ft. Collins, Colorado soon. The owner replaced the bulb in the headlight and then ducktaped the headlight fitting back onto the car. He only charged us for the bulbs and didn't charge me extra for labor or anything like that and my son was then able to make it back to Ft. Collins, Colorado. I plan to use him again as I will be getting my windshield wiper blades replaced.
Description of Work: My son's car died and I had a AAA membership and it was towed to them (Old Fashion Service). Whatever was wrong with it fixed itself by the morning when we picked it up. The owner had checked it out but didn't charge us anything for checking it out and keeping it overnight.
