I'm so pleased with my new roof and with the super customer service I received from IWC. Gerald was incredibly responsive -- promptly returned calls and texts, morning, night and weekends, and was incredibly flexible -- I got to meet with him face-to-face at my house within 24 hours of my first call to him. I did quite a bit of comparison shopping and IWC's pricing was significantly lower than competitors - and I was very careful to keep the analysis apples to apples, e.g. same quality of shingle, same quality of lining/layers below shingles, etc. I would add that Gerald's pricing included a number of services that others' didn't, including gutter cleaning and more. The work was well done, all promises were kept (clean up was superb!), the price was fair, Gerald was a pleasure to work with. As daunting as replacing a roof sounds, this whole process was painless and I credit Gerald for that.
Description of Work: Completely re-roofed my house.

I stated in the online contact note that we had a concrete tile roof, but it seems that this information was not passed on to the people in charge of contacting us; The company rep indicated that they don't repair this type of roofing. They should update their Angie's List information to reflect this.
Description of Work: We asked about an estimate for a roof repair on our concrete tile roof, based on the statement that they deal with "all types of roofs." However, when the guy who does the estimates arrived (who is NOT a roofer) he declared that IWC does "not do" tile roofs.

Everything was very smooth and quick. There were no surprises or extra hidden costs. Their price of re-doing our roof was competitive. It wasn't the lowest bid we received, but I felt their price was fair and gave us a good qualtiy roof. We had some rotted wood around our chimney and swamp cooler from a leak through our old roof, and IWC was able to notice and fix that for us. They finished in two days and then cleaned everything up before leaving. The workers were personable and informative. All in all a great experience. Everything was straight forward. If I had any questions or concerns they got answered quickly. The only potentially negative part of the process is that they parked a big metal garbage bin in the driveway. A necessary thing to have of course, however it blocked the entrance to our garage. We didn't mind parking outside of the garage or on the street, however the morning it arrived, if we both hadn't left for work before the crew got there, it would have blocked our cars in the garage, which would have been a big problem. I would suggest that IWC warn customers of this beforehand so customers know to park their cars elsewhere or make other arrangements. Other than that, I had no issues with IWC and their service was great!
Description of Work: IWC tore off our entire roof and replaced it with a brand new 50-year shingle in two days (2400 squares). They also redid the roof vents, replaced some rotted wood from a previous leaking problem, and fixed other issues that arose from our old roof.

My roof needed a lot of work. A lot of the decking needed to be spanned and reinforced. There were leaks where the workshop roof and valleys were relatively flat. The TPO on the flat valleys and workshop roof solved my leakage problems. The ridgeline vent was a nice enhancement, but the best feature was that they did a clean job that looks great and works! The materials were first rate. They worked on cold days with frost and got the job done. They went beyond the mark by demolishing some water damaged walls and were patient with my inspections and intrusions. I don't doubt that their quality work helped transform this old house and resulted in offers during the first week after I put the house on the market.
Description of Work: Gerald made a convincing presentation. He knows his roofs! His crew did a fantastic job of completely replacing my old roof with it's many complex gables and flat valleys. They started within two weeks of signing the contract and finished in three days.

The work went well and was a very positive experience. Joe the foreman was very through in explaining what reapirs were required and how he was going to fix it. Gerald, the boss man, was incredibly reasonable and does everything that he can to make you comfortable with the experience. They showed up on time, all of the workers were incredibly nice and well mannered. Overall, I would reccomend IWC to everyone in need of a new roof. Great work, top of the line materials, and very good people. Thanks Gerald.... Zach!
Description of Work: IWC removed the old roof, which consisted of three layers of shingles, repaired all the wood damage, removed the old swamp cooler and patched the hole and re-shingled the entire house in a single day!

I am very pleased with the work IWC did. Gerald, the owner, responded very quickly to our request for an estimate on the cabin roof. He met us the same week and was very knowledgeable and thorough in checking the cabin, making recommendations and provided a fair bid and prepped the workers on the environment they would be working in. The workmanship and dedication of the crew was remarkable. They began on a Friday and knew a snow storm was forecast for Monday. They knew they had to get the work done before snowfall and worked all weekend to make sure it was complete. The cabin is in a very difficult position on the side of a mountain and not suitable for fixing the roof using ladders alone. The workers all had safety harnesses using ropes on the side of the cabin. The removal crew was very prompt and worked hard all day and into the evening to get the shingles off the cabin and prepped for the crew doing the roof repair and shingles the next day. Felipe led the crew on the roof repair and shingles. He is a true master of his trade. There was more water damage than expected, even rotting wood in some spots. He came up with ideas on how to fix and prevent future water damage. They repaired the damage, put in new flashing and did double shingles that look amazing for a mountain setting. Felipe and team's attention to detail and dedication to get the work done was above and beyond. The snowfall started earlier on Monday than anticipated but they had already put down all the waterproofing and tar paper on Sunday to make there would be no problem if they didn't finish the shingles on Monday...but they all stayed while it was snowing and finished the work. Everyone worked so hard and it was much more intense than I had ever thought it would be. Mt. Aire is a private canyon and requires security keys to get through two gates and four miles up the canyon to the property and it is a dirt road part of the way to get there. We trusted the workers with the keys so they could come and go as they needed. They were professional and really good people, especially Felipe and his genuine concern in making sure the cabin was perfect and completed before the storm.. The end cost did come in $900 more than the estimate, but it was impossible to know about the water damage and wood rot until the old shingles were off. I think it was fair given the difficulty of the project and extra work. I would definitely recommend them and use them again.

Not good. I sent Intermountain West Contractors an email through Angie's List telling them about my leaking roof and asking if that was something they could help me out with. Working with Intermountain Contractors was a very comfortable experience. The contractor was very easy to work with. I have waited until the first big wind storm and first heavy rain storm took place to make sure that every aspect of the roof was in great order. It is. There were two crews that worked on the roof--the first being the tear off crew. They worked very efficiently, getting the shingles removed in a day's time frame. They were very thorough about cleaning up all of the shingles, covering, and nails that had been strewn about the yard. They were a very congenial crew and friendly if any family member was around. On the down site of this one is that they damaged our front porch railing with the throwing off of the shingles. The railing still carries deep scars. The shingle application crew was very efficient. They assured me that they were using 6 nails per shingle. We live in a high wind area and had the roof replaced because so many shingle had blown off from previous wind storms. The roof looks very nice and was replaced in a very timely manner. I had to call them back for one small issue which they came out and resolved very rapidly.

We found the owner/contractor to be friendly and reliable. He was interested in doing high quality work with high quality product. The pricing was competitive but not necessarily the lowest. The job started when we were told and proceeded with few interruptions. The crews were professional and seemed to be working hard. The removal clean up was quite good, considering we have bushes against much of our house. The new shingles looked good. The job overall was excellent. There was follow up to insure that we were happy with their work before we paid for the work.

The owner and his crew were very professional. One of his workers came to look over our roof and then we drew up the contract. We felt that we received more than our money's worth. During the time the roofers worked on the roof, they were very friendly and cleaned up the bits of roof, trash, nails, etc, on a daily basis before they left in the evening. Overall, they did and excellent job of installing the roof. I would recommend this business to anyone.

Bid Process We had 5-7 different roofing companies come out and do bids for us. IWC came out as one of the more fair bids, and they even matched a matched a lower bid. Ultimately, we did not want to go with the lowest bid because quality was a concern. Communication Gerald from IWC was the most responsive roofer we worked with. We were slow and thorough in our decision making process, and he was great about follow-up and responding to our questions. We were disappointed with the lack of attentiveness from some of the other roofers. Delivery IWC was in and out in one day. Our neighbors made the comment that they had never seen roofers so organized and work so hard. They arrived on the day scheduled and got the job done. The one item we did have some issue with was the dumpster left in the driveway. The job was done on a Friday and the dumpster was not scheduled to be picked up until Monday. The dumpster was blocking my wife's car in the garage. I called Gerald to see what could be done and he had the company come and take it away on Saturday. I really appreciated the level of customer service he provided. Clean seemed to be done well. No nails have been found in our lawn, however, there were a few left in the driveway. One of the workers left his shoes at our house and never came to pick them up. Overall, my experience was very positive.

IWC promised to work on the job until I was happy, and they did this, which I appreciated. The price was competitive, not the best, but I decided to use IWC because they said they'd do the job quickly (2.5 days) and were listed as an Owens Corning shingles contractor. I also thought the warranties would be taken care of. The crew was efficient and careful, and where unintentional damage occurred it was repaired. However, I wanted to discuss certain aspects of the job with someone who had been on the roof to see the finished job. Neither the Sandy City Council inspector, nor Gerald, the principal of IWC, gets on the roof - the former judges by what they can see from the street, and the latter by reports from his crew. However, both parties were responsive. An inspector did call by a few days after his inspection and I was able to discuss matters with him, and likewise Gerald did send a representative. With this, and with the service offered by Angie's List, I got to a point where I was satisfied that I had a good result.

I had a good experience with IWC replacing 1/2 of the roof on a duplex that I own. They offered what I felt was a very competitive price, and they stuck to it. The arrived and did the within the time frame we agreed upon. And they provided me with a written warranty on parts and labor at the completion of the work. And they cleaned things up when they were done.

The good: They covered my Hydrangeas with my canoe to protect them. Brilliant! They would have been obliterated. I panicked for 1/2 hour that I'd chosen the wrong color when 20% of the shingles were already nailed down after I had already switched my shingle choice the day before. Gerald & Vaughn were chill & helped me stay strong. So glad I did. The roof looks good & is well done. Everything was done to code. I didn't pay a penny over my estimate. No one entered my home or asked to use my toilet. I was able to pay with my American Express card and get a lot of Skymiles. The bad: It took much longer than they said it would. This is the reason for the "B". The way their business is organized is kind of confusing. Although I worked with Gerald by phone he never came to the work site except when giving the bid. And although employees would say their name they didn't say their position. As far as I could tell the Latinos did 99% of the dirty work and then bilinguals supervised and communicated with customers and Gerald was the Wizard of Oz behind the curtain.
Description of Work: We contracted with IWC to remove 1 layer of wood shingles & 2 layers of asphalt and to then install a new roof. They scheduled our job to be done Oct 17-18, 2013. The morning of the 17th I got a text from Gerald Sommers confirming our shingle choice. I didn't see it because it was at 5:38 am and my phone was silenced! Haha! I got back to him at 7:36. Then I got a text at 9:28 am saying they were behind and wouldn't get to our roof until next week because of the rain the previous week. I was bummed. The next day at 7:38 am I got a text saying they caught up and would be there today and would finish the next day! I was relieved. The dumpster was delivered that morning and workers started tearing off our roof. They did not finish the next day. It took 3 days to tear off our roof. It was because we had 16 penny nails instead of roofing nails on top of 3 layers of shingles, one of which was wood. No work was done on Sunday. Sunday I decided to switch shingle colors. I texted Gerald Monday morning and he said the supplier might charge me a small restocking fee but it depended on whether they had loaded the shingles on the truck yet. Turns out they had. But he wasn't sure how much the stocking fee would be and I didn't find out until after it was charged to my credit card. The restocking fee is actually 10% of the cost of the shingles which for us turned out to be $453. That is not a small fee. But the $453 ended up being credited back to our card, which is another story. Once the roof was finally completely torn off things started moving a lot faster. They put the new shingles, etc on in one day and finished October 22, 2013.

From the price quote to the end product everything went well. The tear crew were very nice and respectful. They did a great job in cleaning up after themselves. The shingle crew were prompt and on time too. It was a lot of hard work but both crews did a great job. I'm really looking forward to next summer because the ridge vent will greatly help the attic vent out the hot air that builds up in the attic.

Met with Mr. Gerald Sommers, at this time we discussed a cover over old shingles or a tear off of old shingles adding new shingles to roof. After discussing the difference between tear off and cover of old shingles or a new replacement. We decided a new replacement was the way to go. He started the job two days after contract was made. On the first day all old shingles were removed and disposed of properly and new shingles were started. The second day the job was completed. His employee's that worked on the roof were professional and great to work with. Mr. Sommers was very professional and great to work with. He went through all costs and information I needed to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I would like to thank his company for the wonderful job they did. I would recommend this company to anyone wanting any roof work done.

IWC provided a timely proposal and began work on schedule. Although the estimate for the job failed to take into account some issues that had been identified by other contractors who had also submitted proposals, when Gerald Sommers recognized the problems, he promptly called and we worked out a revised cost for the job. At the conclusion of the work there were a few minor concerns, but they were all addressed and remedied without hesitation or delay. Mr. Sommers was very cordial to work with.

irst, the good news: the price was very reasonable and the new roof looks great. The not-so-good news: The job was originally scheduled for 9/5 but the shingles hadn't arrived from the manufacturer so it was rescheduled to Mon 9/16: not a big deal, I understood. On Mon 9/16, no one came. At noon I called and was first told that the crew was at my house. (!) A couple of phone calls later I was told the truck had broken down and they would come on Tues. Again, I understand things happen -- but I did not appreciate the lack of communication. On Tues, when the crew arrived they were surprised that they had to remove the swamp cooler, although that was noted on the contract; again, a failure to communicate between the crew and management. Finally, in the past I have had problems with racoons getting into the walls of my house through a place where two slopes of the roof meet. I had had that spot blocked with 2x4s. I pointed this out to the crew leader and he said no problem. As they were finishing up, I noticed the 2x4s were not in place. We had a discussion about whether the 2x4s were necessary; he didn't think so, but I wasn't willing to risk it, as it was very expensive and stressful to have the racoons removed and I knew the 2x4s kept them out. He finally agreed. The crew left at some point without further contacting me, and when I checked the roof I noticed that the 2x4s were not where they had originally been. In addition, there was a stack of 15 packs of shingles in my driveway. When I talked with the owner about this, he said he would send someone out the next day to collect the shingles (which apparently had been delivered to my house by mistake) and reposition the 2x4s. Three days later, over a week after the shingles had been delivered, someone showed up to remove the shingles -- but no one has ever come to reposition the 2x4s. In thinking back over this experience, I realized that on at least four occasions the owner represented something to me that turned out not to be so; he said he would personally do the estimate on my house and instead someone else did; he said he would come out with the crew on the first day to make sure everything was going okay, and he didn't; he said that the crew leaves extra shingles (which is what he originally thought the 15 packages were) -- but I saw the crew loading up at least two packages of left over shingles and none were left with me; and finally, he said someone would come to reposition the 2x4s and no one did. The first three were no big deal, the last one matters to me, but the pattern bothers me.
