About us

As one of the top mortgage planners in Utah, we have a team of highly skilled and talented professionals designed to provide world-class advice and service to our clients. A properly structured mortgage is one of the cornerstones to financially empowered families. When families pay more interest than they should, or pay a higher allocation of their monthly income to service their obligations than fits within budget, challenges arise. Often, the consequences of mismanaged cash flow and net worth extend far beyond a family’s personal financial statement. Our purpose is based on empowering people and families to live comfortably and securely, and to make wise financial decisions to help prevent the unintended consequences of poor financial choices and habits.

We were buying a house in Draper.  We went to City Creek for the mortgage because our realtor recommended them.  We also reached out to our current mortgage lender, Wells Fargo, and our bank, Chase.  The rate was slightly better with City Creek and because of the realtors suggestion, we went with City Creek.  We did not like the fact that you have to deal with different people throughout different times during the process.  It was frustrating not getting to work with one person.  Someone else would try to answer your questions, but they had to go back and do some research, then get back to us later.  We worked with them May/June/July 2013.  There were 2 major complaints we had.  One was the fact that they didn't lock in our loan when we started the process.  We had a house we put an offer on.  We had a specific lender to give us the loan.  We were shocked when we got a frantic call from City Creek one day saying we needed to lock in the rate immediately at 4.25% before it went up any higher.  We were absolutely shocked that this wasn't done earlier.  We had no idea that it hadn't been done since we were so far in to the process.  I did call to complain about this and was told, "be glad you're not building.  Those people are frantic and may not be able to afford those homes when they're done."  And was also told, "I can make your rate whatever you want, but it'll cost you somewhere else."  When asked why the rate wasn't locked in earlier, I was told, "not sure why, but this is what we're faced with.  We can't go back."  So they realized there was a problem, but no one was able or willing to fix it.  The second problem is that they went with a lender that was frustrating (to say the least) to work with.  We were told they did have other lenders but this company only takes highly qualified buyers and we should be happy/honored to work with them.  The lender was so difficult.  We had to answer the same questions over and over again.  They said it was to make sure we gave the same answers.  Since it took over 3 months, they kept reviewing our monthly credit report and questioning many charges repeatedly.  We had to review and reply over and over again.  Finally, it was closing time.  The title company confirmed how annoying this lending company was to work with.  The title agent warned us that our signatures had to match on all documents because if the lender thought it didn't match they would hold off the recording of the sale.  We did have a delay in the recording of the sale, but that turned out to be the title company's fault.  The title agent was supposed to drop off the papers with the lender on that day, but instead she went home and FedEx'ed them the next day for next day delivery.  So that delaying the recording two days.  As for City Creek, I absolutely got the impression that they missed the "locking the rate" for no reason.  Someone messed up.  They did say we had other less challenging mortgage lenders to chose from but they kept saying it would mess up everyone and everything if we started with another lender this late in the process.  We were under the impression that we couldn't do that because of our contract with the seller of the home.  We would have to start all over.  When we asked why they chose that lender if they knew how challenging they would be, they just kept saying we were lucky to work with that lender.  It really made us question whether City Creek had us in their best interest.

Dave Kent and his team were incredible. We did two mortgages through Dave (one residential and one a rental) and both went off without a hitch. Dave and his team made the process painless (at least as much as a mortgage refi can be). We got a great rate on both mortgages with -0- out of pocket.
