Harvey West Plumbing

I have a 1999 home and one of the toilet's is leaking, so, I decided instead of fixing it, replace it with a new toilet. I went to costco and bought a new toilet and had it ready for installation. I went to Home Depot and bought a new wax ring and also the stainless steel connector hose. Before purchasing the Angie's '$39 for $100 worth of any plumbing service' from Harvey West Plumbing, I called the number listed and Harvey answered the phone. He was very courteous and I asked him if I can use the angie's big deal for the installation of a toilet and he said absolutely and quoted me a standard installation of a toilet price as $225. So, we both agreed it will be $225 - $100 Coupon = $115 for the basic toilet installation. Harvey also mentioned that when the plumber comes out, he will take a look at the status of the toilet and if any additional work is needed, he will give me an estimate. I asked what are the potential issues that we are looking at he mentioned when the toilet is removed, the flange status will determine any additional work. We setup the appointment for 9am on 9/18/13. Sean, the plumber, showed up on time at 9am. I explained him everything, showed him the toilet I bought and other material. He took a look at the toilet and told me that, the 'one piece stop/flex' needs to be replaced. And I asked him what is the estimate on replacing a stop connector. He called his company and gave me a quote of $280!!! ($280 for replacing a connector!!! That iece of work can't take more than 10mins, but even if we say 30mins, that is $560 and Hour rate!!! I guess this work is equivalent to brain surgery and even that doctor won't get paid that hourly rate). I said, why is replacing a connector that expensive and he said, he will have to shut off the water (isn't he supposed to do that for replacing a toilet to begin with?) and need to cut off a welded piece (takes a couple of secs with a cutoff tool which I told him I have it). His answer, we don't go by hourly rate, we just quote the amount for work. So, bottom line, to replace the stop connector, it is $280. I said, that is ridiculous and no, I won't be paying that amount. He said, let me call my company and came back and said, they will do it for $180. I told him, no, I'm not paying anything more than $50 for that work. At this point, he mentions that he won't be able to proceed because I'm refusing the additional work and that needs to be done. Now, remember, there is NO LEAK or rust on that stop. I was able to shut it off with no effort at all. He said, he can't install the toilet as they will be liable for any leaks and any damage. I told him, the leak is from the rusty bolt from toilet tank and we are replacing the toilet. I offered him that I will give it in writing releasing them from any liability of the leak causing from the stop/leak valve. He said, no, they can not perform the work and it will cost me $180 for replacing that connector. In essence, it will cost me more to replace the connector than the toilet itself. I'm so glad that he didn't took the toilet apart and said, the flange needs work and it will be thousand dollars and they can't proceed. Now comes the fun part. Of course, I said, I do not want to get the work done. Remember, I have purchased a coupon for $100 worth of ANY PLUMBING work. SO, he goes, it will be $59 for service charge!!! He actually wanted me to pay him another $59. I mentioned the coupon and theoratically I am losing $40 worth of work. Thank fully, he calls his company and says, ok, I don't have to pay for the service call. Now, their dilemma is how to charge $100 for a $59 service call. So, essentially, he gets on his ipad and without showing me what I am signing, asks me to sign for the call. (I knew they have to do something crafty but at this point, I just could not waste any more time. It ended up being that he charged me $100 for a ONE YEAR of SERVICE CONTARCT and gave ma discount of $59 on the service call. Now, remember, he did not even MENTION to me that I am signing a Year contract which by law, he is supposed to do so. So, here is the bottom line. The 'replacing stop connector' is a finite amount of work and that could have been told on the phone before the call and that they could not do their work without it. I think their strategy is bait and switch and they expected to have additional work added or not do any work at all. In addition, tried to get more money for service call and had me sign a year contract without telling me what it is. I just think it is unethical and bad professionalism to do so. I don't care about the $39 I spent but I hope others will read the review and determine for themselves if they want a bait and switch work.

I was amazed that anyone would respond on a Saturday morning, but Harvey West Plumbing did. They young lady who answered the phone that morning was pleasant, helped answer a few questions and even suggest a coupon they had on Angie?s List that I could use for my service. The technician arrived a few hours later, was professional and very through.

Dustin was excellent! He arrived at my house within 3 hours of my service request. He was nice, professional, and easy to communicate with. He quickly evaluated the areas of concern and gave professional advice and recommendations. I would use Harvey West again, and would request Dustin.

First: I purchased a $100 credit for any service for $45 from Angie's List for Harvey West Plumbing Co. Next: When the plumber showed up (nice young man) he knew I had the credit. So: The quote for the replacement faucet was $345.00. *** Next: I questioned this price for the work to be done. He said he would give me a special price usually for the contract customers.. . Well: Since I had already spent $45.00 I finally agreed to have the work done. The price he gave me was $295.10. Add the $45.00 to that and subtract $100.00, less the special discount for contract customers, I ended up paying $240.10 He commented that since my home is Hardy Board instead of brick, I needed a special faucet with a shorter pipe. Then: A couple of days later, I noticed some white caulk on the outside of my house near the faucet. Apparently, when he went to seal the faucet against the house with white silicone, he squirted it on the house in about a four foot line. I also notice it was on the hose rack that I had sitting below the faucet. My feeling is that he should have cleaned up the mess he made, and/or, advised me it needed to be done before it dried. When pulling the Silicone off the house, it removed the paint along that line. Now, my faucet no longer leaks, so I'm saving water, but I really think that the price for the faucet was somewhat excessive. Maybe I'm living back in the 50's, and cannot judge today's prices. However, it was a simple fix and should have been done with less conflict.

The 2 repairmen were very helpful, professional, and worked efficiently. They followed up the next day when the tenant indicated that one faucet was still leaking. However, in retrospect, I think I would have declined their services when they presented me with the bid for the work. It took ONE of them about an hour to complete the work while the other one was on the phone and securing the estimates, etc. This service was NOT worth the nearly $500 I had to pay in addition to the $39 for the Angie's List coupon. I asked them about installing a couple of faucets in the Master Bath while they were there, but turned them down when their estimate was an additional $250 PER FAUCET!!!! AND I bought and provided the faucets!! Just ridiculous!

Let me start by saying we bear some of the responsibility on this situation. I had been after my wife for months to have a noisy toilet replaced. While I was out of town she called this company to install a new one. Previously, my wife had purchased a "big deal" offered by angie's list so it made sense to call them. Plumber shows up and quotes my wife $267 which she accepts. Remember now the big deal had already been purchased which was supposedly worth $100. That means the total charge was effectively $367. Here's where we went wrong - wife doesn't know any better and assumes its a reasonable quote so she accepts it. Here's where the plumbing company was wrong > $367 to replace/install a toilet is ridiculous. Even $267 is ridiculous. My wife should have known better, but the company should not be in the business of taking advantage of their less informed customers. It's maybe a 1.5 hour job for one person which in this case equates to $244/hr. I don't think there is a plumber on the planet worth that rate. It doesn't even pass the sniff test. I know he will say it was technically not an "hourly" job. Don't care. Him saying I was somehow protected from the hourly charges if it took longer than they planned is a dumb argument for a commodity service being performed in a relatively new house after they were able to look at everything ahead of time. When I saw the credit card transaction I called Harvey. He was not remotely sympathetic, thinks his prices are reasonable and says he has to cover overhead. I guess it was my turn to pay for an entire day's worth. Harvey says there were two plumbers which I don't care about because its only a one-man job. How do I know this is an unreasonable price? It's the third toilet I've had replaced in the past year. The first one cost me $135 by a highly rated company on angie's list. It took one plumber two hours. The second was done by the guy who replaced the tile in one bathroom. It took him around an hour to do just the install. He had previously removed the old one and I don't know how look it took him. And there is another review (May 28, 2013) here on Angie's List where the reviewer stated he was charged $267 (and comments about being overcharged) for what reads as the same replace/install of a toilet. That may prove the $39 I paid for the $100 off was a complete bait-and-switch. Looking back I'm thinking the angie's list big deal didn't save me any money. The $39 we paid for the $100 in plumbing services was a bad deal, not a big one.

The builder grade kitchen faucet finally was unusable. Wife wanted it replaced ASAP. We called around and Harvey West Plumbing was available, had great reviews, and had a coupon. I have replaced faucets before but this looked more difficult than usual. It had to be cut out and I did not want to cause damage to the counter or sink. Harvey West Plumbing did the job perfectly and the result is a better looking faucet with more functionality. They even had time to give us an opinion about a bathroom faucet we had a different plumber installed.

My husband had been trying to repair a leak in the laundry room sink for several weeks with no luck. I saw a Big Deal on Angie's list and decided to purchase it and give Harvey West Plumbing a try. They called me the next day and scheduled an appointment for the following day. The plumber arrived on time, wore booties over his shoes (a big plus in my book), listened to my husband explain the problem, and fixed it. Because he worked with my husband I don't know how the service contract came up, but my fiscally conservative husband bought the contract! Obviously he was pleased with the work and felt confident enough in the company to spend the $99.00 for the one-year service. We will definitely use them again the plumber was courteous, thoughtful, and professional.

Woke up this morning to low water pressure. Went outside and saw a small river across my front yard. Called City of McKinney water service. They came right out, pumped the water out enough to see that pipe connected to the meter was broken. Told me to get a plumber because it was on my side of the meter and I am responsible for repairing it. Immediately went to Angie's List, found a small list of "A" plumbers. Call the first one, but they were booked up. Called Harvey West Plumbing and they could provide emergency service. Within an hour they arrived and assessed the situation. Within the next hour repaired it and guaranteed the work for a year. They were very courteous, explained everything, got my approval for the price, then got the job done. I highly recommend them.

I would recommend them again, they were professional and courteous. Found the flow problem easily and communicated solution promptly.

I purchased the big deal from Angie's List. He was really fast but I think it was a little overpriced.

This is a polished group - from taking my call to completing the job. Easy to work with, professional, friendly, neat, and punctual. Once on site, they gave an estimate and did the job for the estimated cost. They gave a Angie's List special $59 discount that covers the service call if you don't accept their estimate or is applied to the repair bill if you allow them to do the work. But I was surprised - the job was simpler than I imagined. The pipe rattling problem was solved by simply replacing the exterior faucet. The plumber was at my house at total of 50 minutes including pre and post paperwork. Really? Over $200 an hour to replace a faucet? Even with the discount? I did not ding them much in my rating since I don't know the going rate and they did the work for the quoted price which I could have refused without charge. And the results look very professional. In my rating, I said I would use them again. Based on their professionalism - yes. But I would try to get another price quote to rest assured I was getting a fair deal. Note to do-it-yourselfers: I had earlier replaced that faucet myself and it did not solve the rattling problem. My speculation is the quality of parts from Home Depot isn't up to what plumbers get from a plumbing supply company.

The anti siphon device on the outside faucet failed. The faucet was mounted on a brick wall. Because of the faucet design, the entire fixture required replacement. Upon removing the old faucet, the plumber found that the new frost-proof exterior faucet's tailpipe was too short. He applied an extension, replaced the faucet, and re-mortared the area of brick well.

I chose Harvey West plumbing because their pricing was the most reasonable. It was a fair price to begin with and then, with the Angie's List coupon, the price was even better. It was a small job and the fee was appropriate for the job. Overall, John and his assistant did a great job capping off the gas line in our utility room and disconnecting our washer hoses. Again, the job wasn't large, but they did all they could to make sure the job was done right and that nothing was missed. I will use Harvey West again and recommend them for everyone.

We purchased the Angie's List Big Deal from this company. $30 for $99 of work, or something along those lines. We are in a new home and had a couple small problems that we needed fixed. Unfortunately I was not home at the time of service so I had to allow one of the women in the house to deal with the tech that came on site. Instead of doing the initially requested work, they performed a "home plumbing inspection" that was not needed and then (in my opinion) charged us handsomely for the remaining work that we wanted done in the first place. Basically, we had two toilets that had problems. One of the flush handles would stick in the up position occasionally causing the toilet to fill and the second toilet was slowly losing bowl water which caused it to refill occasionally. They replaced parts on our toilets that did not match the rest of the house, parts that I would argue did not even need replacement, and that are already failing worse than the initial parts after just a couple months of use. As I write this review, all of the original problems are back just like we never did anything. My disappointment with this service is that the company decided to upsell the person who happened to be at the house at the time of service and our initial "Big Deal" turned into a big pricetag. We're all adults here and honestly the person in my home should have ignored the upselling and they also should have question the mismatched parts that were put into service. I also understand that people are in business to make money but there is a fine line between getting into a customers home and identifying issues and what happened here at our house. I'm mostly disappointed with this along with the quality of the parts used in their replacement.

It was great. They did everything perfect. I spent $41 more than what the deal was for.

The appointment was fine, however the report was supposed to be sent later Thurs. night. It wasn't, nor on Fri., or Sat. I only received it on Monday am 4 days later. John said he was out of town. The estimate was 9 lines long. If he saud it was going to take 4 days, I would have used another plumber. Very disappointing given the prior Angie's list rating, which I relied on. The estimate was too late, so I'd like a refund.

It was really good. They were excellent. They were on time.

Called Harvey West at 3:36 pm to see about an Angie's List coupon and asked when someone could come out to look at my hot water heater. Technician,Leo, showed up before I could finish purchasing the coupon. Leo told me the thermostats were bad and quoted me a price. Leo had the thermostats replaced and even drained the tank to get rid of the buildup at no cost. Leo left at 4:40 pm. I have found a new plumbing company and recommend them to anyone.

The plumbers quickly fixed my bathtub and did a full house inspection. I was very pleased with the service.

Excellent responsiveness, they were on-site within an hour of my call. Leo and Rios were friendly, professional and fast workers. They offered me a choise of garbage disposals and installed the new disposal I chose in less than forty-five minutes. I would definitely use them again.

The service man came to my son's house on time and checked if the sewer line was broken. He also estimated the cost of fixing other plumbing problem.

There was a flurry of activity because the old toilet had leaked and flooded a bathroom and a bedroom. There were reclamation people everywhere installing fans and trying to dry the water in the carpet and in the walls. The plumber from Harvey West worked well with the other workers and did a very satisfactory job of removing the old one and installing the new one. My only negative was that I though the bill was on the pricey side. But the service was wxcellent.

They were great. There was a minor issue but they came right out and fixed it so that the inspection could be approved by the city.
