I saw a Big Deal ad on Angie's List and decided to check the slow running drains in kitchen and master bathroom. I set up appt. with Cheryl (was not sure if they serviced Royse City, so I called prior to buying Big Deal) for Thurs 9/24 with a two hour time line. Cheryl called me back about two hours later, asking if I would like service today. I was thrilled and accepted the appointment. She told me who would be coming and approximate time. Larry arrived on time and was very polite and thorough. He checked both drains, water heater and asked if I had any other plumbing issues. He set me up for any further problems using a portion of the voucher for his time and service call. I am happy with the results and service was A+. Nice to know a plumbing company that will service (and do well) the Royse City area.

After looking at the reviews online I called them about my hot water tank that the pilot light wouldn't stay lit. I was informed for them to come out was a $39.00 charge. When Brandon arrived, I took him to the water heater, where he informed me if I wanted him to diagnose the problem it would be $99.00 and the $39.00 would be waved. I would like to make this very clear, unless I agreed to pay the $99 he would not touch the hot water heater, not even to see if it would light. I agreed to pay the $99, he immediately wanted to know if I wanted to replace the unit. I told him I wanted the unit repaired not replaced. He could not keep the pilot light lit either,he then made several calls to his manager and informed me it was the thermostat and it would be $566.00 with the discount from the $99 agreement I signed. But wait, the discount was $4.00, they wanted to charge me $566.00 + $99.00= $665.00 for the repair. I can buy a new hot water tank for less money. I had the work done by All About Water Heaters for less than half the price!

Response from Harvey West Plumbing
We are sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with our services. The $99 charge was quoted to you in order to fully check your water heaters functions and provide you with a full safety check on your plumbing which also provided you with several other benefits. The licensed plumber was unable to successfully light the pilot on your water heater due to parts failure, however he did find that your water heater was 10 years old. The average life of a natural gas water heater in the North Texas area is anywhere between 8 and 12 years old depending on other factoring conditions. The technician checked to see if you would rather repair the deteriorated 10 year old unit or to invest in a new replacement unit giving you more energy savings, better efficiency ect. After you stated you did not want a replacement, the technician proceeded with offering the recommended repairs of a thermostat and thermocouple to properly repair the 10 year old unit. Our plumbers do provide our customers with the best recommendation due to their experience as well as options if possible to make sure that the customers find the best solution to fit the customer's needs. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

We purchased a deal for $20 for $100 worth of plumbing when we needed our outdoor faucet fixed after the previous owner did not cover them during the winter causing them to leak. We researched the cost prior to purchasing the deal and since faucet spigots are fairly cheap, and it wasn't difficult labor, we figured this deal would mostly cover it. The cost they were charging for a frost free spigot was outrageous - It was going to cost us around $200 INCLUDING our $100 off coupon. Since we had already purchased the Angie's List coupon, and our faucet was leaking badly, we felt like we had to go through with some kind of service. We opted to have them install a regular spigot (not frost free, which can be purchased at a hardware store for less than $20). Even with our $100 off coupon we were out $163.66 and they were here for less than 30 minutes! I felt duped by the outrageous prices they were charging. They were friendly and on time, but I can't recommend them based on the prices they charge.

The installer was OK, but the price was outrageous. When ask on the phone what their hourly rate was they wouldn't give me one. Having an immediate need to fix the disconnected pipes under my sink I had them come on out. They said they had one price to fix it. When I received the receipt there was no break down what so ever for parts làbor or anything. Bring under an emergency situation I feel we were taken advantage of.

Chuck and Brandon arrived as promised and immediately set to inspecting our plumbing fixtures throughout the house and the hot water heater. We thought we might be in need of an external hose bib/faucet replacement, but after talking with Chuck, we learned that we weren't in need of one. Inside the house, everything looked good. They took time to check the disposal thoroughly, and found a piece of plastic straw that had been stuck inside. Now it runs much more smoothly. We requested a quote on replacing the old washer shut off valves under the bathroom sinks with new 1/4 turn brass valves, and the old soldered copper supply lines with braided stainless steel ones. Chuck was able to determine the pricing so that it was acceptable and we ok'd the work. They had enough parts to do the job, but we had a 2 hr limit due to a previous commitment. They did have a challenge when one of the supply lines couldn't reach the faucet, but ended up having the right parts for an extension. All was said and done within the time frame and we were well pleased with the results. Chuck and Brandon were very pleasant and professional. Plus, we actually learned a few things from them. We would be happy to have them back in the future.

Horrible service. Disposal was making a noise. They told us we needed a new disposal so we went and bought one. They came back and installed it. Started making a noise again even though we had not used it. It failed a home inspection. Called them back and they told us to buy a new disposal. So my wife got on the phone with the manufacturer and they helped her fix it. My wife is a better problem solver and plumber than West Plumbing !! If you have any plumbing problems don't call West Plumbing. The only thing they will tell you is - buy a new one ! They are also arrogant.

We apologize that you feel you received poor service although we spoke to your wife after the most recent visit yesterday and she clearly stated that she was very pleased with both technicians. Our technician Chuck came to your home initially to check your disposal and first offered your wife the option to remove the disposal from your sink to check the motor, blades and for foreign objects or to replace your worn disposal. He offered 3 options providing up to a 10 year warranty. Your wife then inquired about purchasing a disposal on her own and having us return to install your customer provided disposal bought through a local retailer. The technician agreed he was able to install a disposal provided by you however that option provides no warranty on the actual disposal through our services. Your wife chose to provide her own disposal and have us return the next day. Chuck rescheduled the next day at your convenience to install your disposal. Although, we do not warranty a customer provided disposal we dispatched another licensed plumber to your home free of charge several weeks after the initial installation. The technician checked your disposal by doing what he could for free without removing the disposal by shining a flashlight and reaching his hand into the disposal as best as any man can to check for foreign debris. He was unable to detect any issues other than the blades appeared to rattle loosely which has no relation to our installation. Once your wife put her much smaller hand down into the disposal she was able to freely move her hand around to find a foreign object which again has no relation to our installation. We again apologize that you feel you received poor service when we did our best to go above and beyond checking our work and your disposal product not provided by us. Best Regards.

After three other plumbers gave us escalating quotes to the tune of $35,000 and saying that we needed to replace all of our pipes under our foundation, I called Harvey West and they saved us $34,000! The head plumber (or manager) talked to me on the phone for an hour with no charge, telling me tests I can run on my own to see if there really was a problem, as well as telling me what the other plumbers didn't do correctly. To run the tests needed, I needed two clean-outs installed, which they did and ran the test. During that process they found a small bad section of pipe that they didn't charge me for either. Everyone was very explanatory and patient with me and on time both times they came out. I can't recommend these guys more!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We were very pleased to help you save $34,000 and hope others will read your review to understand sewer video camera tests can be deceiving to the eye which is why the proper steps and proper testing needs to be performed before proceeding with any sewer replacement quotes such as yours. It was wonderful being able to tell you after the initial repair just outside your home you had no other problems and no further work was necessary. Now its time to sit back and enjoy watching your savings account grow!

They're fine. I was just happy that we got a discount from them because I thought they were a little expensive. What's funny thought was the fact that I called six months later, I said I'm smelling it again too. I went and I called the regular gas company. The problem was actually at the meter. I'm not entirely sure that they fixed anything. They said there was something with the line going to the house. Then the gas company came out. They measured and they filled me what the problem was. I don't know if they really fixed it there and if there was another problem. The the smell was kind of in the same spot. Its just my conspiracy theory. They're good. I don't know if I will use them again.

***Serious gouging!*** The men who came out were very courteous, and professional. They arrived on time, and left no mess behind. No complaints on the service. We purchased a service plan with Harvey West Plumbing, for the second year now, but won't do it again. We had them replace a water-heater for @ $1,300, 4-5 days later a seal in the bathtub that gets it's water from the recently replaced water-heater (they said it was a coincidence, but I suspected debris from the work) and this cost about $350 (a plastic ring that would fit on your pinky was the only part used) and today, they replaced 2 sets of fill valves and flappers in the toilets. The parts for this would be 2 x $12. We paid $500 after the coupon and discounts - since we have a service plan. I do believe this is gouging. I spoke with the manager on the phone later, who told me this charge is due to the fact that they are on time, clean, and have parts on the truck. Also they offer benefits to their employees and they are insured, oh, and they answer the phone. Uh, I thought that was part of running a business. Yes, they fixed the problem, and NO, I will never use them again!

Our water heater died at 10 PM on a Wednesday night. Harvey West Plumbing had installed it the first time, seven years prior -- and had done good work back then to bring the installation up to code. The heater failed internally and began leaking. I called HWP at 8 AM the next morning -- and John was at our house before 10 AM with a rapid diagnosis. The heater needed replacing (was not repairable, but was under warranty (10 total years). Despite the incipient change in US water heater efficiency levels (April 2015), which is driving current inventory low, John was able to locate a new heater of the same make/model in the Dallas area. We paid solely for the installation (the heater was free under warranty, and now has about 2 years warranty as well). By about 2:00 that same day we were back in hot water. I consider the installation cost on the high side (it did include permitting), but can't argue with the professionalism of the company and John in particular. I regret not looking at Angie's List before the service, as there is a "Thursday Only" $59 coupon for them I could have used (and nobody at HWP mentioned it to me). He did sell me a one-year "service contract" for $99, but doing so got a discount on this transaction, and given the price of the overall job it only increased the cost by about a dollar -- and gets us a zero-trip-charge and discount arrangement for any future plumbing work in the next year. Overall, the fact of HWP coming out within 2 hours of my call, making a diagnosis, finding and installing a brand-new unit under warranty, and getting us back into hot showers less than 18 hours after catastrophic failure is...terrific. Hats off to the company and John. Highly recommended.

I had foundation work done, then, as required, a sewer and water leak detection test was performed (by another company). The water meter showed there was a leak; all faucets and visible fresh water sources were assessed for leakage and non were found. I was told to contact the leak isolation specialist. I contacted Harvey West Plumbing to isolate a water leak so that it could be repaired. The price to isolate the leak was $265; repairs were additional. On 2/3/2015 West Plumbing sent technician Leo and another man to the house; they arrived on time. They worked for nearly 3 hours (the 4th hour was spent listening to Leo). They turned off the hot water heater and the dial on water meter stopped moving; they said this confirmed that the leak was in one of many hot water pipes somewhere under the slab. They used a digital thermometer to test for heat on the floor, blew air in the line and listened with a stethoscope like devise for air bubbles on various areas of the floor. They did not hear bubbles & said that meant the leak was, most likely, clogged by debris (debris blown loose when air was injected in the water lines). They re-checked the water meter and it wasn't spinning (no leak?) They said the leak had stopped (due to being clogged by debris), "temporarily" and, until the debris breaks loose there is no way to isolate the leak, but it will return, in a few days, or 6 months, or longer, but, leak would return. Up to this point, things were going smoothly. Next, Leo asked for payment of $265 for the leak isolation he performed. He said he would detail what he'd done on the receipt. It was my understanding payment was due when service was completed; the leak was not isolated, the service was not completed. Leo insisted, pay $265, "Now" or he would put a lien on my house. I am a home owner, I'm not going anywhere. I've done business with any number of contractors, plumbers, electricians, handymen, etc., but this is my first experience where payment in full is expected before a job is completed. Leo refused to have a conversation with my real estate agent (who was there looking out for my interests). There was tension in the air. A calm, rational discussion was impossible; Leo was not interested in what I had to say. He finally left (without payment). The water meter was left uncovered, a safety hazard; the water line to water heater was left in the off position. On 2/10/2015, Leo took payment information over the phone. Credit card billed $265. I told him I did not want him in my house, ever. I do not want anyone from this company in my house. As of 2/24/2015, I still have not received the "detailed" receipt as promised. I have since called a number of leak detection companies on Angie's. Every company said payment was not collected until they isolated the leak &/or repaired it; a couple of companies said they would find the leak & estimate repair costs at no charge. Those companies are all rated "A" on Angies.
Description of Work: I hired them to isolate a water leak. They did not isolate leak but expected to be paid. Based on my experience with their technician, and the way they conduct business, I would not use Harvey West Plumbing again.
