Jim Hall, owner of Down to Earth, came to our home on a Monday 12/7/15 to discuss what we wanted done.  He measured our yard and gave us a price.  We agreed to the price and scheduled work to begin Monday 12/14/15.  Jim called the next day and said another job had been pushed back and would we be available to start the job that Thursday 12/10/15.  Absolutely.  We were ready and eager to get this project going.  His crew showed up that Thursday and got started. They were prompt, courteous and did the "prep work" that day.  Over the next 3 business days they hauled numerous loads of 2" rock into our backyard and spread it out; installed a beautiful flagstone patio and laid 3 flagstone pathways.  The final product exceeded our expectations and made us wonder why we had not done this a long time ago.  The workmanship and professionalism displayed by this crew was exceptional.  This company has earned and deserves every positive review written. 

Our backyard has been transformed into a "hardscape" designed to conserve water and look beautiful at the same time.  We would highly recommend "Down to Earth" to anyone!  AND we look forward to working with them again on our next project!

I HAD TO CONVINCE JAMES THAT IT WAS A JOB HE COULD DO.  HIS YOUNG TEAM WERE AMAZING.  I WANTED THE WALL TO FOLLOW THE TERRIANE.  IT WAS MORE THAN I IMAGINED.  GREAT WORK.  THE TEAM TRULY ENJOY THEIR WORK.  I TOLD THEM TO DO WHAT MADE THEM PROUD.  JACK

The project went very well.  Jim Hall and his four-man crew arrived at the 12:30 pm scheduled time.  They removed all the old vegetation and filled in the area with dirt and laid down weed barrier before covering the areas with river rock in strategic locations.  Also replaced  green metal borders with brick work.  The crew finished four hours later but not before cleaning up the area and watering the new plants.  My wife and I were very satisfied with the results.  Jim did have to come back the next day and arrived at the time he promised to do some further planting of two agapanthas.  He mentioned not to get paid until the work was complete.  He did not request any partial payment up front but rather requested payment after the job was complete.  This was refreshing to hear since most of the contractors I've dealt with request partial payment up front.  I would definitely use Down to Earth Landscaping again.

James was very punctual and even early when he arrived to provide an estimate.  His estimate was right in the target range that I had come up with assuming that I was purchasing the materials to have delivered and the pricing that I came up with for labor.  I had previously contracted with another company that barely started and did not finish the job.  I was feeling skeptical about contractors at this point, but was unable to finish the job myself under my time constraint.  
Day of the work James and his team showed up on time early this morning and began work by spreading dirt to level out a drop off on a patio that I felt was unsafe.  James returned with materials for the river rock garden and while his team moved through placing the rock he moved on to get the load of mulch.  Once James returned with the mulch, his team worked like clock work finishing the mulch bed and laid the grass.   Each time I checked outside, I did not see anyone resting or slacking.  They came to do a job and completed it in a timely fashion.  
After the trouble I have had with my past landscape contractor, I admit I was hesitant on hiring again, but James proved that there are still good people in the world and are not out to try and take advantage.  I would recommend James to anyone.  
Thanks James and appreciate your promptness in meeting my deadline and the level of effort you and your guys put in.  The yard looks fantastic.  I will continue to use James on future projects.

John was easy to work with.  He was punctual, professional, talented at landscaping and reliable.  He responded to may calls within 24 hours.  He was patient and understanding when it took so long for my HOA to approve rehab. plans for the front yard.
Once the project started John and his crew were here early and worked steadily for 2 days to complete the job.  John always checked with me for the placement of new plants.  I liked that very much.  
I was comfortable working with ideas and sketches instead of drawn out specific plans.  John was always flexible and let me work within our plan to make changes as needed for plants and design.  A big thank you to John Hall and his Crew.

From start to finish Jim was very professional and fair priced. He always returned my calls and gave me room and time to decide on the price and jobs to be done. Of all the Angie's List contractor I have used or contacted Jim and Down To Earth Landscaping are head and shoulders above them. I have dealt with more than 9 other contractors because we are in the process of upgrading our 1966 home. Not only did Jim and his crew do a beautiful job but everyday when they finished they cleaned up so you could not tell they had been their all day working. Their work and pride in their work shows. We are extremely happy with their work.  The yard looks beautiful the grass is already rooting and green.  Their landscaping is also beautiful. I have had the neighbors stop by and tell me what an improvement the is in the yard and thank me for caring,of course I told them who did the work Down To Earth Landscaping ,Jim is a hands on guy and has a Great crew that will treat you right and do a job that will be very satisfying.

Jim met with me and gave an estimate, showed up and he and his crew did everything I asked and I only told him once......I never write reviews and if I could fill up this whole page with praises I would. They were here promptly, worked hard, completed our project, and cleaned up before they left. Very nice work that turned out even better than I had imagined! We had told him what we needed and he designed it all. We are very happy with the finished product. He matched our existing stone work perfectly. Reasonable rates for the quality of work. We LOVE it!! We plan on using this company again for future work.

This company was only 2 of the 5 companies contacted to come to my house to provide me with a quote, and he was the first company to respond.  His quote was also the best out of the two provided to us.  While our job was small in comparison to most landscape jobs, his group handled it with professionalism and did exactly what I asked them to do.  They arrived on time and they finished when they said they'd be finished, they cleaned up their work area as well. I am very happy with the outcome and highly recommend Down to Earth to anyone with any landscape job, large or small.

Jim and his crew were great to work with! He came to us and LISTENED to what we wanted! After having a few other landscapers TELL us what they were going to do, this was refreshing! Down to Earth Landscaping came the following Wednesday and by this Friday morning our yard looked fresh, modern, clean and had the curb appeal we were looking for, all within our budget! Jim and crew were friendly and easy to work with! We will be using them again soon to give our backyard the TLC it needs! Thank you guys again!

Some of the best craftsmanship I have seen from a landscape contractor.  They committed to a time, showed up when they said they would and completed the project above my expectations.

James came out to evaluate the area.  I told him that I was trying to stay within a budget. He gave us some ideas with different prices to meet our needs.  He was also willing to use the material we already had for the retaining wall.  The job was completed quickly, and we are very pleased with our results.

a bit pricey but worth it.  I had the bed mulched last year and paid less but thejob was poorly done.  Down to Earth mulched the bed cost a bit more but did much better. You get what you pay for

I just can't say enough great things about Jim Hall and his team!
I called him with a very rough idea of what I wanted for a garden design.  He took my rough idea and really brought it to life with several great suggestions that I would never have even thought of.
The garden is AMAZING!!!
Then in Phase "2"  I again gave Jim a very rough idea of what we wanted to do in the way of a "yard" (we live in the country) for our small dogs but that would still be attractive and fit with the rest of the house.  Again, Jim came back with some great ideas on how to do it and then just "got it done"!   It is beautiful and brings us joy every single day.
Jim has a great demeanor, very unassuming but extremely thorough and professional about what he does.  He takes great pride in his work.  I can honestly say that we have never worked with a contractor where things went as well as they did with Jim.

   Neighbors, people driving by and even people stopping ringing our door bell to inquire and compliment on the landscape. The front yard is beautiful...and the back yard is breath taking..  What else can we say; it is BEAUTIFUL.

  At the end of each day the work areas were clean and the tools were put away. Additionally, Jim's crew, all were courteous and are really hard workers. As you can tell we are very pleased...We recommend Down to Earth Landscape Co. to our neighbors, you won't go wrong with using this company for your landscape needs.

Great service. James (owner of company) had called me the day before to to tell me that he could get the work done on 06/19/15 if the "weather cooperated" (i.e. not raining) and he would call me in the morning to let me know. The morning of 06/19/15 he showed up at the house promptly at 0830, even though it was raining. I thought he was going to tell me we would have to re-schedule for another day. But no, he informed me that the rest of his scheduled jobs would not be able to be done because of the rain (they involved mixing cement). So he had rounded up his entire crew and, if I was OK with them working in the rain, they would complete my job in 2-3 hours, and they did! The site looks great and, as an additional bonus, his price was an average 400.00 less than the other 2 estimates I had received.  I will definitely use him for any other landscaping job in our future and, will recommend him to anyone needing landscaping work in their home.
