Sun Air Conditioning & Heating

Came home from vacation trip and a/c was blowing out warm air. The thermostat was indicating that the inside air was 91 degrees. I remembered I had subscribed to Angie's List the previous week. I selected the a/c company that was closest to me and that had good reviews. Since it was near 9pm, the answering service received my phone call and stated that someone from Sun A/C would be contacting me soon. Approximately 15 minutes later, Juan (service technician) contacted me and I explained what was going on. He insisted that I shut down the HAVC system and reset circuit breaker at a/c panel as well as main service panel and then restart HVAC system and see what happens before coming out. Then call him back after I had done this. After completing these procedures and still having warm air circulating, I contacted Juan with Sun A/C again. Even though it was after 9pm he insisted that he would come out immediately. Juan arrived approximately 30 minutes after the phone call. He instructed me to turn on the a/c while he checked the compressor. After turning on the a/c I went outside to where Juan was and he said that the compressor is trying to come on but felt like the capacitor was malfunctioning. He immediately went to his truck and returned with new capacitor. He installed the new part and turned the system on. This time the compressor kicked-in and cooler air was blowing in the house. Juan checked other parts of the outside unit and inspected exposed wires. I used the coupon that was on Angie's List to reduce some of the cost. Juan gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him immediately if there was a problem or if I had a question. I called Juan the next day about the capacitor he installed. I noticed that it was not a Carrier part. He stated that the capacitor that he installed was of better quality and substance than the original part. I retrieved the part number and brand name from the capacitor he installed and verified his statement. He was absolutely correct. Thank you Juan. I will recommend and use Sun A/C services again.

This is the second time I have used their services. They come on time. We never have any problems with their services. I am really happy with them.

Arrived on time, professionally dressed and mannered. Quick, efficient work to inspect the indoor fan & motor. Cleaned out condensate drain connection at bathroom sink. Trouble shoot noise in fan, recommended warranty replacement.

It went very well. They completed the work in a day. They did have to add to the job, to cut another return vent for better circulation, but this was done quickly and at a reasonable price. All was handled in a professional manner.

Richard Socha came out and did a thorough assessment of our units. He told us that the repairs recommended by the buyer's A/C tech were unnecessary, as our systems were functioning normally, and would not need such repairs for some years to come. He reattached the one return air plenum which had come loose, and resealed both plenums. He converted our electrostatic air filters (which were not functioning up to full capacity) to simpler media filters, and then checked for leaks and measured the temperature differential across both units (after properly adjusting the air flow, which apparently the inspector did not), which were now well within specs. I am grateful for Richard's experience (38 years) and integrity, which saved us from a huge unnecessary expense. I am a Sun customer for life!

My wife chose them. They went through the systems, made sure everything was fine and that was about it.

One of of A/C units did not work (pumped hot air). Called SUN AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING, they sent technician the same day. Technician checked the unit, found damaged capacitor and fixed the problem.

They have been excellent and they installed my new unit. We have had several companies in our house over the years and no one has ever addressed a problem in our house. Sun Air Conditioning & Heating came in and identified the problem right away. They have made great recommendations and have great follow up. I don't feel like I am getting ripped off.

The crew arrived on time (9:00 am) and began the job. They were professional and courteous. They covered the carpet where they had to access the attic. They were at the house for approximately 6 hours and stopped to answer any questions I had during the process. As far as I could tell they performed their job as detailed in the quotation. I asked if the register covers could be replaced (when the salesman stopped by to bring some additional items) and he gave me a price to purchase and install. We agreed and the salesman immediately left to get the covers and returned. The crew completed their job and mostly cleaned up before leaving. My only complaint is they didn't clean up inside (or even ask for a vacuum) to leave their worksite as clean as they found it.

The man that came out was very prompt and courteous. When I need service, they will be the first ones I call.

They only took a few hours to do the work. They pulled the permits and all of that. They were reasonably priced. I was really satisfied with them. I will be using them as my regular air people.

When they first came out several weeks ago, they thought is was the flame sensor, so they cleaned it. Then after a few days it still didn't work. Techs came out several more times and couldn't figure it out. Today, they decide it's the zone board causing the problem (costly), something they should have figured out initially. Then they said you need new two (3) wire damper motors. Well, they had come out two years before to service the A/C ( which they never did) and noticed that one of the three wire damper motors had burned out and would try to get a new one. They never followed up. Now they say they can install two wire motors but never made the effort to find a three wire motor two years ago, something they initially installed. The place simply doesn't communicate with each other and frankly, make no effort to service properly what they sell. Never again. You burn me once, I'm through with you. Nice people though.

Chris serviced it and cleaned the flame sensor and now, I'm toasty warm. Chris is a fine young man and was very professional.

Overall, Art and the tech were both polite and knowledgeable, and I will use them again!

On Friday, 8/26/2011, my a/c (a 21 year old RUUD) was making a clanking noise, but still working. I called Sun A/C (based on Angie List reviews), and asked if they could come out on Sat. 8/27) and look at it. Although they were booked and use weekends only for emergencies, they squeezed me in. By the time Richard, the a/c tech came to my house the a/c had gone out completely. Sat. 8/27, was the hottest day in Houston, 107 degrees. My fan motor was gone. He went back to the shop, brought me a re-built motor and got it working. It was a weekend, and to order a new unit would have to wait until Monday. However, because of the age of the unit the length of time the rebuilt fan would work was uncertain. I already knew my unit was on borrowed time, and so I discussed options like the difference between permanently fixing the fan unit, or replacing the outside unit or finally replacing both the outside part and the part in the attic. Richard gave me a very detailed and understandable explanation of each component's function, the cost of the various options. Considering that the unit was 21 years old and the band aid was no longer an option, I purchased a new RUUD unit from Sun. They arrived when they said they would arrive, they installed the unit, cleaned up after themselves (removed packaging etc.) and it was a great experience, plus, my a/c works incredibly well now and I know my electric bill is going to be so much lower because of the efficiency of the unit.

A/C went out late afternoon and we were able to get an appointment for 8:00am the next day. I figured same day service that late would be difficult so we were good with it being 1st thing the next day. The service tech was on time and was able to find and fix the problem within minutes. We were very happy with the level of service and the response time. We will definately use them again. Very pleased.

We called between 9:30 and 10:00am, and got an appointment for between 2:00 and 4:00pm the same day. The service technician arrived on time, went right to work, and diagnosed and fixed the problem in short order. He was courteous and professional and seemed to know exactly what he was doing. We were very pleased.

On the morning of June 30th, I was getting an estimate for some exterior work and the estimator happened to mention that he noticed that my air conditioners seem to be running constantly, despite the fact that I like to keep my home warmer than average. I checked Angie's List and selected Sun Air Conditioning and Heating because of the positive reviews combined with the fact that they were close and they advertised a senior discount. I called and told the scheduler that I would like to make an appointment because it seemed that my air conditioning was working effectively. I mentioned that the home was 11 years old. Her first response was to ask if I just wanted to get a quote on new units. I told her that I wasn't even certain that I had a problem but I would like to have it checked and if it needed repair, I would like to get a quote on that first. She gave me the price of check ups for the two units at $79 for the first and $59 for the second. I asked her what that covered and she mentioned checking the units, washing the compressor and cleaning the coil. We scheduled the appt. for the next morning. I called her back a couple minutes after scheduling and told her to make a note that we qualified for the senior discount. She said that she would. On July 1st, the technician arrived on time and introduced himself, giving me his card. The first thing I noticed about him was that unlike most workmen, he made no effort to cover his shoes or take them off even though I have light carpeting and it was obvious that neither my husband nor I were wearing shoes indoors. I could have ignored that if things didn't go downhill from there. He adjusted the thermostats since I had the system turned off and went outside to look at the compressors. He came back in a few minutes later and said that both units were each 4 pounds short of freon and that meant that there was a leak. That seemed obvious to me but I was not happy to hear him say that checking for the leak would cost another $120 and , depending upon what that showed, it would most likely result in the need for a new coil at about $2400. This all after a few minutes outside and no check yet in the attic. I asked him about the checking and cleaning that was supposed to be part of the original bill and he said he would wash whatever debris might be in the compressor and clean the coil in the attic if it was accessible. He checked that attic and said that the coil was not accessible because there was no built in access door in my model. Of course, there was no adjustment in price for work not done. I was still debating about paying the $120 for more "inspecting" when I didn't see that the initial inspection covered much more than measuring the freon levels. To me it would have been much more forthright to add the $120 to the phone quote for a complete inspection or to, at least, mention it. I also felt that he had a preconceived idea of the solution and that there would be no simple finding of loose joint or inexpensively correctable problem. He then suggested that he just add the freon and that I see how long that lasted. He said that it might last the rest of the summer and that I should think about system replacement in the near future. I went along with that though later I realized that I should have just cut my losses then and there and called another company. Thinking about it afterward, it doesn't seem conscionable to just add freon to a leaking system not knowing where the leak might be and whether it would be enough to cause health problems. When the tech started to write out the bill, I handed him the Angie's List coupon for $15 off a service call. He handed it back saying he had already taken $15 off for senior discount. I was shocked at this pettiness, especially since no where on the coupon does it say that it can not be combined with any other discount. In effect, there is no Angie's List discount if one is a senior. He kept the clear copy of the invoice and gave me the carbon, on which the most legible thing is my signature since he did not press hard enough for the description of the work performed to be readable. After he left, one thing that I did find that he pressed hard enough on was my newly painted hall way wall where he placed his hands to hold himself up as he was talking. I practically had to scrub the paint away to get the black hand prints off. That just seemed to sum up the negative experience.

I couldn't be happier with the service. The tech was courteous, helpful, and he was interested in fixing the problem correctly and inexpensively rather than providing services I didn't need. Three technicians from another company on three separate visits all told me to replace my A/C. This company's tech was able to diagnose and correct the problem in less than 2 hours at 1/30th of the cost!!! I couldn't be happier. I will recommend them to everyone I know.

I just moved into my new home and wanted to get an opinion on the AC system. They came to the house and were able to tell me where the filters were located and how to replace them and on what schedule. I was afraid that the system would need to be replaced due to age. The compressor was checked and cleaned. I was informed that it would probably last another 5 years, but was too small for the space of the home. I decided not to replace it at this time, but when I am ready to move to a bigger unit, I will definitely give them a call.

I requested an estimate for completely replacing our two 16+ year old HVAC systems, one 2-ton, one 3-ton. Chris, the technician was polite, gave me details about what would be done and answered my questions. He gave me a hand-written bid with the details of their work they would provide to replace our two systems. In the end, I decided to go with another company, but would definitely consider this company again.

It was fine. We had them install the downstairs unit a few years ago and knew that we were going to need to replace this unit eventually. Because we had such a good experience with them the first time we decided to call them back for the second unit. As was the case the fist time, everything they said they would do they did. They did it in a timely fashion and professionally. It was all done according to the proposal. We were very satisfied again. We didn?t do that much checking on the price but we were satisfied.

We're having some fence work done in the back and needed to have the leveling done before that work started. Art responded promptly to my email and was able to get people out in time -- and that was the next morning. They were about 20 minutes late, but worked quickly and I was able to get to work when I'd planned. The workers were knowledgable and polite. I asked for an estimate to replace the upstairs gas heater with an electric heater, and they answered all my probably stupid questions patiently, without any indication that the questions were silly. I appreciated that. They honored the Angie's List coupon without any problem. They are on the top of my list to replace the heater and the aC when it's time for that.

The fellow who came to give me an estimate looked the situation over carefully and drew diagrams with measurements. He told me his supervisor might have to come and look. That afternoon the supervisor came and spent time again measuring carefully as the "closet" was small. At the end I was given an estimate. On the 11th the team came and worked all day. Two supervisors came to see that all was going well. Everyone seemed very capable and pleasant. The unit is quieter than what I had, and I assume I will see energy savings. The next day someone came to do some tests checking whatever! I was impressed.
