"We appreciate all reviews on our company, as it only helps us to improve our services to our current and future customer base. The homeowner provided our company with a survey of the property showing two septic tanks, not the third tank that the homeowner is referencing where the generator was set. It is not a normal practice prior to a generator install to dig several feet underground to see if anything is buried beneath the surface. We do however provide a gas, electrical and phone location prior to an install so as not to disrupt those services. There was no way that our company could have known that the third tank was present and if we would have been advised by the homeowner that is was present, we would have never installed the generator in its current location. We have been responsive to the homeowners requests and have tried diligently to assist in remedying the situation for them. The homeowner was given a price for moving the generator and work was scheduled to be done in a timely manor. We began the relocation process, however when the homeowner revealed that they weren't going to pay for the relocation, we discontinued the work that was agreed upon. Unfortunately, with all of our efforts to satisfy the homeowner we have not been able to find a solution that was acceptable to them."

"Thank you for sharing your thoughts about our company with other Angie's List members. We constantly strive to be the best at what we do and your feedback will help us to improve along with helping other Angie's members make a good choice when considering the purchase of a standby generator. Thanks again!"
On inspection it was found to not be a major problem to get my generator working properly, however, they discovered FOUR MAJOR CODE VIOLATIONS that were very unsafe!!!! The major problem started in 12/25/12 with a "power surge" I was told by the installing company.
I was very upset and afraid to use the generator, as the violations were major. Mrs. Fish, one of the owners, was very nice and tried to assure me the violations could be brought up to code and also they could install the missing safety items and my generator would be safe.
I know very litte about electricity, but for someone that does and might be reading this I will list the violations: 200 amp non service entrance rated transfer switch installed on a 150 amp service, no disconnecting means for the transfer switch, ATS was rewired with non-manufacturer parts, and the generator was setup to run the entire house and not capable to do so!!!!!!!! We used this generator a lot when hurricane "Ike" was here and I guess we're lucky our house did not burn down!!!!!!
Mrs. Fish and her company were wonderful to me - they are knowledgeable, kind, considerate and strive to bring the highest integrity to their work and their company. In my opinion, this company is the best! DON'T MESS WITH THE REST!
"Thank you for sharing your comments about our company with other Angie's List members. We always want our customers to have a safe generator installation and were glad to assist you with the issues you had from the original installation by another company. Your thoughts will help people understand the importance of making sure the installation meets or exceeds all code requirements whether they are in a permitted/inspection area or not. This raises the question of how homeowners are going to know whether their installation is code compliant. The best advice we could give is to never buy on price and buy on the valid experience of the contractor. We always tell potential customers, whether you buy from us or not at least call and get the knowledge you need to protect your home and family. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts."
"Thank you for sharing your comments about preventative maintenance on your standby generator. We make every effort to communicate with our customers when the appointment will take place, however if we missed contacting you, please accept our apologies. The service is performed by licensed Journeyman electricians that are certified with the generator manufacture for any type of service work. Our electricians are sent to training school to stay up to date with the best methods in troubleshooting problems and technology advancements. We do perform oil and air filter changes as well as perform the manufacturers recommended points of inspection from visual inspection of belts and hoses to verifying voltage outputs and gas volume. We also perform an outage simulation to assure our customers that their generator will start when needed during a power outage. Thank you again for sharing your comments as we always strive to have a 100% customer satisfaction rate with our customers."
I highly recommend this company for future work.
"Thank you for sharing your positive experience with Generator Power Systems! We strive everyday to exceed our customers expectations and have the install process go as smoothly as possible."
"We look at every customer as if they are the only one we have and constantly strive to improve our customer service so that we exceed our customer's expectations everytime. Thanks for sharing your positive reveiw with our Angie's List members!"
"Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We enjoy sharing our knowledge about standby generators. In fact, we promote that even if you don't buy from us, call us to get the right answers to your questions. Standby power is relatively new to the residential market and there are a lot of misconceptions about size of generator needed, placement of generator, integrity of installation and a host of other variables. Standby generators are not a plug and play piece of equipment therefore a turnkey installation is usually more than what consumers expect. When selecting a contractor, you should consider more than the dollar amount as the installation is the most critical part of your purchase. Thanks again for your thoughts!"
"Thank you for sharing your wonderful reveiw for other Angies List members! We didn't just install and start a generator for you, we started a relationship. We will look forward to offering you the same great customer service you experienced during your install for years of worryfree operation. Thanks again from the entire team at Generator Power Systems!"
"Thank you so much for your review of Generator Power Systems! We strive to make our customers experience as "painless" as possible. Since there are numerous steps in the installation process, scheduling and coordination is paramount to cut down on the disruption time to our customers. Thanks again from the entire team at Generator Power Systems!"
"Thank you for sharing your thoughts with other Angie's members. We are here to help other Angie's members make a good decision about standby power just as we did with you. Thanks again from our team at Generator Power Systems."
After some consideration, I emailed GPS and asked to proceed with the quoted work. They required 1/2 down for the equipment. The whole process took about 2 week due to some city permit issues, but that all got resolved and the 20kWatt natural gas generator was install, and tested.
Jim allowed me to use my landscapers to dig the trenches through my backyard. I believe them to be better equipped to navigate my plants and other delicate items.
At one point I phoned Jim that his guys seemed to have finished and left a rock bed in a bit of a mess. He had it all cleaned up next day back to how it was. I might have been jumping the gun on that call....
I was fairly pleased with the install process. It was a bit scary digging up that much of my yard, but it all worked out.
I am very pleased with my Generac generator and switch box. Fully automated with manual by-pass if needed.
I would recommend Jim Fish and his company to anyone.
"Thank you for sharing your positive experience with other Angie's members. Since standby generator are not a plug and play device there is some disruption to landscaping. The amount of disturbance is dictated by the length of gas lines to the generator and or electrical lines. We were more than happy to accomodate your request by using your landscapers for excavation as that is what you were comfortable with. Again, thanks from all of us at Generator Power Systems."
I WAS impressed by the fact that this is all they do, and so, stock repair parts locally.
"Our company is one of the best in the Houston area about sizing generators appropriately and according to the NEC (National Electric Code). We are also a leading Premier Generac dealer with one of the best product mixes in the country because we do size generators appropriately. We continue to see other companies not size generators appropriately and see an increase in generators that are undersized for the application. Undersized generators will not perform during a power outagage. Buyers need to be aware that buying on price versus the correctly sized generator KW will only create a generator failure down the road. The only way to assure that a consumer is receiving the correctly sized generator is to have a NEC approved load calcuation created that shows the consumer what will be powered and the correct amount of KW to handle the load. Permitted areas such as the City of Houston, require a NEC load calculation signed by a Master electrician proving that the generator will only be powering circuits that don't exceed the capacity of the generator. Buyers in non permitted areas should ask for that same NEC load calculation to protect themselves from being sold too small of a generator. Standby power generators are not a plug and play type of device. When you are thinking about standby power consider that you are combining an engine, natural gas and electricity and installing next to your home. Qualified contractors should be selected to perform a professional installation so that you and your family are safe. Pricing of the units vary with each customers unique installation. No two installs are the same. We offer a free site evaluation so that each potential customer is given an approved load calcuation along with a firm quote from our company."
