"Thank you for taking the time to review us. Thank you again for the kind words. Please let us know if we can help you in any way. - David"
The product worked so well that I subsequently ordered screens for the windows across the back on my house. These had to be done differently to fit the windows and fit in with the color scheme of the house. Again, the StarShade crew gave me good advice and did a quick, professional job that looks great and does exactly what I needed the product to do as regards privacy and heat reduction. The employees were all friendly and professional. I recommend StarShade and would do business with them again.
David Hunt, the owner, came to our house to give us an estimate. His price was reasonable, he could get the job done in a short turn around time, and he knew his product. I asked him about those past negative reviews. He explained some issues in the past that had led to the unhappy customers, and he also told me what steps he had taken to insure those issues did not recur. I believed him and decided to buy from him. I am so glad I did.
I researched other companies before deciding on StarShade, and I took estimates from 2 other companies. One didn't match up in quality to StarShade. The other had a considerably higher price and didn't even follow up with me the way StarShade did. For the quality and price, StarShade had everyone else beat for custom made solar screens.
The first set of window screens that we ordered were ready within a few days, and Brian came to install them. Brian was very meticulous in his work and made sure I was happy before he left. When we ordered the roller shades, it took longer to get them in because StarShade had to order them from an out of state company. When they were ready, again, Brian came out to install them. He gave us some different options on how he could install the pull chain to control them. Again, he made sure we were completely satisfied before he left. Finally we got the last screen. Since it was outside the fence, Brian just came and installed it without our even having to meet with him.
The products have worked great and have performed as promised and as we expected. We immediately noticed the difference in the amount of hot sunlight coming into the windows. Since this was our first summer here, I can't really comment on a difference in the utility bills. However, since we had the product before in a previous house, we knew they would make a difference. Shortly after we got our screens, we noticed some of our neighbors getting screens as well. They must have noticed how good ours looked.
Vanessa in the office was great and kept us informed every step of the way, with the scheduling for measuring, installation, production progress, the billing, and the warranty information.
I would recommend StarShade to anyone who wants custom made solar screen products. They are a local company, and they give personalized service. They made me a very happy customer, and they made my house look great.
I called this company on 5/9/2012,spoke to David about getting an estimate on solar screens for my home.David informed me he could come out the same day to give me an estimate. He did arrive on time;-).He brought samples of his screens to get an idea of the kind and color. He was very friendly and knowledgeable of his products. He asked if I was military because they offer discounts.David gave me an estimate and advised his employees would be by on 5/10/2012 to do exact measurements. They did arrive as promised and they were also very friendly. That evening the receptionist called to set up installation appointment for 5/11/2012.They came again as promised installed the screens and left. The screens have made a drastic difference in the temperature inside my home. They are of quality material and they added beauty to my home.I am extremely satisfied with this company.
.1. The construction of the frames seemed sturdier than the competitors. 2. The quality of the fabric Twitchell Corp, Textilene Solar Screen, which Star Shade used was in my opinion of better; and would hold up to weather and household pets. I researched both companies fabric on the internet and the fabric companies web sites. 3. They also completed the paperwork for the CPS energy rebate all we had to do was put our CPS account number, information on our AC unit and sign and send it in. 4.Recommended a window washing company, who gave us a discounted rate and would coordinate the window washing with the installation of the solar screens
On 6/20/11 I selected Star Shade and sent in the request to my HOA for approval.
On 6/24/11 I received a call from Star Shade to see if I had received approve from HOA yet, I had not.
On 6/28/11 I received approval from my HOA and notified Star Shade that we had been approved. Dave Co-Owner said he would have Vanessa get us scheduled for installation.
On 6/28/11 Vanessa called and wanted to schedule installation, I reminder her that we were also going to get the windows washed by the company that Dave had recommended, so installation needed to be coordinated with him. She said she would get with them and find out the date and call me back. I reminded her that we prefered no work done on Saturdays due to religious beliefs. She said okay she understood. I asked how long it would take to install the solar shades and she said about 30 minutes.
6/29/11 thur 7/5/11 No calls from Vanessa or anyone else from Star Shade.
7/5/11 Widow washer showed up, we did not know they were coming, he apologized and said he thought that Star Shade had notified us.
7/5/11 I called and spoke with Vanessa and told her the window washers were here and asked when the Solar screens were going to be installed. She stated that they would be installed that day, that we were the second customer in line.
7/5/11 Received an call from Vanessa at approximately 5:20 pm she stated that they would not be able to install today because the other jobs had run longer than expected. She did apologized. I asked her when our installation would occur and she said we would be the first job tomorrow. I let her know that they could come as early as the wanted that we were early risers.
7/6/11 I called Vanessa at 9:45 am to find out why no one had arrived yet to do the installation, at that time she said that the installers were working on two other jobs and that we would be the third job. I became upset with her and told her that I felt that she had lied to me and asked to speak to the owner of the company, that my time was valuable also. She said okay and put me on hold for approximately 10 minutes. I then spoke with Andre Co-Owner of the company, he assured me that they would be out before noon. I told him the reason I wanted to speak to him is that I felt that Vanessa needed additional training on scheduling and customer service. He said that it was Vanessa first day back from vacation, I said that should not matter, that she still needed training that when she had first called she said that installation would take 30 minutes which I knew was not true due to the fact that we have a two story hours and over 28 windows. He said that he would speak with her.
7/6/11 @ 11:15; Andre and his worker showed up for the installation, the screens were what we had ordered. They completed the work approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.
7/6/11 Received a call from Dave Co-owner asked if we were happy with the screens, answer was we would have liked a few more brackets installed, he said they would take care of that ASAP. After further thought and discussion with my husband we decided not to get the additional brackets and called Dave and told him we decided that we didn't need them.
He said okay and to let them know if we needed anything else.
Overall we are happy with the solar screens and the whole experience would have been great had it not been for Vanessa's errors.
For this job, they agreed to notify me so I could be there, or at least to ensure the gate was unlocked if I couldn't be there (most professional companies call to arrange a mutually convenient time for deliveries or work). The estimator wrote my phone number on the front of the sales form extra large and a note because of my concerns over the previous installation, and he stated that now it couldn't be missed. About 10 days later, I arrived home to find the bill stuck in my front door and the screens installed. When I checked on the screen installed in back, I noticed my fence gate was essentially open (despite still having a locked padlock attached), because the gate post was detached and leaning over (see attached photo). The post was broken loose from its concrete footing, and was in fact broken in two with the bottom part of it still firmly seated in concrete. After talking to the worker who installed the screens and getting a denial and the run-around, I filled out their online service request form explaining the situation and my expectations that the company properly repair the damage. Again I left my phone number and asked to be contacted to discuss the issue. Instead, a couple days later I found they had come back when I was not at home and simply put a couple of screws through one of the boards attached to the post, and into my home's brick wall (see photo), without my permission. This probably took all of five minutes and, while the post is no longer leaning, it is not secured to the ground (still broken), and relatively loose even where it is screwed into the wall. Otherwise, the screens and installation of them appear OK.
