I had two trees (one live oak and one cedar elm) which required pruning, especially the oak, some minor trimming on a few other oaks plus an old hackberry stump which needed to be removed. The crew arrived on time and immediately went to work. They made sure that all the cuts on the oak trees were sealed to prevent the spread of oak wilt which is prevalent in this area. I would almost call their work artistic! They were thorough, even using a blower to clean off the roof of our two-story home after they were finished trimming, they completely removed the old stump, and did a superb job of cleaning up the entire yard. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the quality of their work.

My wife and I purchased our home in September 2011. Some of the selling points of the house were the pool and the gorgeous oak trees on the property - some over 100 years old. We love the trees and the pool, but the oaks in the back yard hadn't been trimmed in a few years and were covering the pool - dropping many leaves and obstructing valuable sun on the pool. We had quotes from other tree service companies until may neighbor recommended John at Alamo City Arbor. John worked with my neighbor to landscape his yard and he had nothing but nice things to say. When John arrived at my house for the quote, he was very complimentary of the yard and the trees. I could tell he has a real passion for trees and this is reflected in the quality of work that he and his team complete. We arranged a date and time for the work and his team arrived promptly, were very professional and asked my opinion throughout the day. They wanted me to be happy. Overall, we couldn't be more impressed with John, his team and the work did with our trees. We will call him again in a few years to maintain the oaks.

John called and let us know that Robert was the head of the crew that was coming out and to let him know if there was anythiing that we had questions about. The four men that were in that crew were very professional and polite. They knew exactly what needed to be done. The crew cleaned up all of the cut limbs and tree trunk that had been removed. They came in to do the job which took approximately two hours and 45 minutes. Once the job was completed John came by and checked the crews work that had been completed and ask me if there was anything else that needed to be done. I am completely satisfied with their work and will certainly recommend them to anyone who asks if I know of a good company for pruning trees. In fact I am going to call John tomorrow and have him come out and give my mother-in-law an estimate for cutting her trees. Richard

John arrived at my house in response to my phone call request for an estimate within one hour of my call. We agreed on the scope and price. The crew arrived the next day and completed all work in a very professional manner same day. I couldn't be more pleased. I highly recommend this company for tree trimming services in the San Antonio area.

We called Alamo City Arbor Care to get a second estimate for a tree-trimming job after finding this company on Angie's List. At first we were thinking of just tree trimming, and figured we would have to call in someone else to diagnose the problem with our yellowing pear trees (as another company had advised us). John came out to eyeball the job the same day we called him, and one of the first things he remarked on was the unhealthy looking pear trees. He was able to identify the problem, but suggested we check it out, too. Eventually, we decided to remove those two trees and trim the rest. Frankly, we had planned to go with our initial company (not this one), but after meeting with John my parents and I unanimously agreed on having Alamo...do the job. His price was MUCH better, and he seemed straightforward and professional. True to his word, his crew (3 plus himself) was efficient and very professional. They were finished within 2 hours and when they left, there were no signs of any work having been done (except the missing trees!)...it was a great clean up job. John stayed with his crew until the major work was done, and his foreman took care of the rest. We liked that they asked us before they made any major decisions (like cutting large, low-hanging branches). Before John left we walked through everything to make sure we were satisfied. He stuck to his promised fees --- in addition to the Angie's list discount, he also gave us an additional discount (my father had asked about discounts for seniors/ veterans). We were thrilled with their work and attitude and showed our appreciation with a tip. We paid $430 including taxes, and the tip was in addition. We HIGHLY recommend John and his company for a fuss-free, professional, honest, and efficient experience.

Alamo City Arbor Care did a fantastic job! The work they did completely transformed the front and back yard, and from outside it literally looks like a new house. I have quite a few trees and they were so overgrown you could not really see our house from the street. Now it is so open and looks much bigger. They came out with a crew of men and finished the job in 2 days. They even cored out the tree stumps and cleaned out the gutters when they were done. Jon's crew exceeded my expectations and for the price this was the best thing we have done so far to improve our house.

It went great! Extremely timely. Beautiful work. Above and beyond my expectations. Did more than the quote entailed. Who does that?!? I am very pleased with my experience and would definitely use again. Thank you John for everything.

I called and left a message on 26 April, 2012 for Alamo City Arbor Care to call me so I could set up a time and date to get an estimate for landscaping. Jon Chalker did not return my call until late May which by that time, I had moved on and gotten estimates from three other landscaping companies. The reasoning he gave was that he was especially busy & he later mentioned that he was behind due to a death in the family. While I understand family emergencies, I don't see why it had to take one month to reply, leading me to believe that doing business with this company would pose a risk re: timeliness of project completion and communication.

Jon came out on a Friday and we discussed the job. He had great ideas and a vision for my front yard that matched (no, exceeded) mine. Once we agreed on the plan, his crew was on site within 3 days. They worked like dogs and at day's end, they cleaned the property of all debris. If you hadn't seen them there, you would never guess they did work: the site was so clean after each day's work!Within two days, I had a beautiful front, side and back yard. His crew was very professional, very respectful. would I use him again? YOU BET!!

The owner of the company came out and gave us an estimate. We talked by phone to determine a date. The company (4 people) came out and trimmed and mulched the limbs within two to two and a half hours. The workers left our yard in better condition. I appreciate the company and will call them next year for more work.

We first called Jon after two other landscaping companies who came out to look at our yard never returned any of my follow-up calls. Jon came out that same day to take a look at our front yard and give us an estimate to do what we wanted to do, which was to rip out some seriously overgrown plants, take out the 6 hackberry stumps (we had the trees cut down a little over a year ago), remove all the grass, and install hardscaping with some plant & flower beds. We wanted to have some low-maintenance, drought-tolerant, but colorful flowering plants in the front yard, and my husband's priority was not having to mow grass again. Jon immediately had some creative ideas as to the shape of the beds and how to border the yard in a way that would give some visual interest in a small space, and he had a plan emailed to me within 2 days with an estimate. He also did a great job of working within our budget. We asked when he could start, he and his crew came out two days later! They worked quickly, efficiently, and cleanly. They started around 9 AM and worked late into the afternoon to have the yard done within one day! The yard now looks amazing; the house even looks bigger. I had forgotten to ask before they started if he could trim our existing palm tree that hadn't been cleaned up in a couple of years, and he was kind enough to bring out his crew the next morning (a Saturday!) just to trim the palm tree. Jon absolutely went above and beyond to not only meet but exceed our expectations. He was prompt, courteous, and professional, and I really liked that he was at our home with his crew for the entire job. He obviously cares a great deal about doing a quality job and making sure his clients are satisfied. Two of our neighbors came out to compliment us on the yard in the first day, and that's a huge compliment in our neighborhood where everyone has immaculately-kept yards. We had always felt a little out of place with our neglected, overgrown landscape, but not anymore! Now we really feel like our yard not only fits in with our neighbors, but stands out as an exceptional space. Our backyard isn't in great shape, and we can't wait to save up to have him come out and overhaul it next year! We can't thank him enough for his remarkable work!

This is the second time that I've used Alamo City Arbor Care and I will now refuse to use anyone else. The owner, Jon, came out to my house on a Wednesday for a review of the situation (looking to get more sun coverage for our pool and backyard, leaf cleanup) and made some really great recommendations that both gave us more light into the yard but also greatly increased the visual appeal of it as well. By that Friday (unbelievable turnaround since this is the busy season!), Jon's team was already hard at work on the trees and took great care in not damaging any of our existing landscaping or pool areas. My wife and I were thrilled with their quick work and excellent clean up...it looked like a brand new yard! Alamo City Arbor Care is an honest, fast working company that does a very high quality level of work. You can't ask for much more from a company... I highly recommend them and you won't disappointed if you give them a try!

I contacted this company and John came the next day to look it over and give me an estimate. He said it would probably be a couple of weeks before they could do the work. That was on Thursday, May 24. On Monday, the holiday, John called and said that his team was out handling an emergency. He said that since they were already working, would it be okay if they came by and started my work. I said sure. They showed up about an hour after he called. They removed the tree, graded the yard and removed all hedges. My yard was a disaster due to it being dug up by another company to replace sewer pipes. The men left around 6 pm and said they would return the next day to finish the work. They arrived about 9ish on Tuesday. I don't know how long it took as I left for work. When I got home, I found a beautiful yard with nice bushes and mulch around the bushes. These guys did a great job. I really didn't have any idea what kind of bushes I wanted or how I wanted the yard to look so this was all John and his crew's vision. It is great!

I called this company based on recommendations from Angie's list as I m new to Texas. John came by my house/yard and spent quite a bit of time diagnosing my tree problem and providing advice. He called me back the very next day with his final diagnosis and various options for me to consider. He was very professional and obviously an expert in his field. I am in the process of considering my options. He answered all my questions and there was no pressure to choose any particular option.

As always, Jon and his team came through for me again on our new property. And believe me, this job was not an easy one just because of several years of overgrowth on a 3/4 acre property. He has a very hardworking team that exceeded our expectations. His lead supervisor Robert kept us informed the whole time and would check in on us every few hours to ensure that the teams progress was to our liking. They were accomodating and flexible as we made decisions or changed our minds or asked for a trim in certain areas. They worked hard both days and they were on time in the morning and worked straight through the day with only an hour break for lunch. Jon himself also checked in with us regularly to ensure the progress and final product was successful. We will continue to use Jon and his team and we recommend to all Angie's List users that they use him as well!

All work was completed at the price quoted. Stumps were ground and all trees and brush were disposed of in a chipper and or otherwise removed. Everything was cleaned up and my yard was left in pristine condition. All work was done promptly and professionally. Rarely do you have this level of professionalism in tree services. Over the course of 20 years I've hired many tree services but Jon and his team are simply the best in the business.

Alamo City Arbor Care is an execptional small business. The name of the company does not reflect their incredible landscaping and hardscaping talent. The job we had them do was a complete demolition of the front, back and side yards of a garden home. After demolition and tree triming they repaired a concrete wall that required foundation lifting, filling cracks and repairing stucco. They installed a BEAUTIFUL flagstone sidewalk and new sod. Next they built a georgous stacked flagstone border for the flowerbeds in the front and a blockstone wall for the inner courtyard. They repaired the sod in the front, installed plantings and mulch and cleaned the area up. He made repairs and improvements to the 20 year old sprinkler system to make sure all of the new landscaping would have water. They worked around three other contractors (which is not the best situation) showing their flexibility to get the job done "no matter what". Jon is very accomodating and his hardworking tree and landscape crew is execptional. The homeowners input is important to both Jon and his crew. I highly recommed this company to everyone.

John and his crew were very professional. The work was performed within a few days of John giving me an estimate and the final amount was actually less than the estimate. They removed all the cut limbs, the old tree, ground the stump and left the lawn, patio and driveway very clean. They also painted the cuts to prevent disease. Planted in place of the old tree was a 65 gallon red oak that John hand picked and it is truly gorgeous. Robert, the crew foreman with 20 years experience, was great in trimming exactly what I wanted and answering any questions I had. John and Robert were also very helpful in helping me decide what was the best type of tree to plant. John and Robert are very easy individuals to work with and they are true professionals. I learned of this company from Angie's List and picked them because of their high rating. I understand now why they are so highly rated. I too highly recommend them.

I found them on Angie’s List. They did a good job, and Iam very happy with them. They are very courteous. They quote us a price and they stuck by their price, and there was a time when we had a pretty bad situation here and they stood by us.

The workers were professional, friendly, courteous and answered my questions. Their work methods were non-invasive and there was no damage to my yard. My yard is much brighter now but I still have the canopy of shade from my large trees. I am very pleased with their work, the results far exceeded my expectations.

This experience truly shows the benefits of working with a small business! Jon under promises and over delivers. We agreed on the plan on Saturday evening and his crew as well as the sprinkler company's crew were hard at work before we got up on Monday morning. His crew was hard-working, friendly, and very attentive to even minute details. Everything was put away each night, and the areas completely cleaned up. If you didn't see the progress each day, you'd never know anyone was there by the lack of evidence (mess) left behind. Jon estimated the job to take a week; everything was completed in three days. I gave Jon free rein in choosing the plants. The only thing I asked for was "color" because our house is green. The yard looks phenemonal! We've had many compliments from strangers and neighbors. Our front yard is now the crown jewel of the neighborhood! Of note, we also received estimates from larger complanies. The quoted price was roughly the same but did not include any sod, side yard landscaping, or the rock side yard bed.

He was good and he was the cheapest. He was very professional and his team was very hard working. There was a bunch of debris and branches, and they cleaned it up really well.
