My coupon was overdue, but Marcus agreed to accept it. He discussed some bad stains and I agreed to the e
xtra treatments. He said he would do what he could to the pale beige loveseat and I was pleased with what he managed to clean up. The service was very prompt, considering it was just a week before Christmas and he worked quickly and thoroughly. He even gave me a 30% discount on the upholstry cleaning! I would definitely recommend this company. The equipment he used was similar to a carpet cleaning machine. Within moments of him starting the procedure the toxic odor was overwhelming. Stinging my eyes and making me cough. I opened the doors and turned on all ceiling fans. It got progressively worse so I removed our small dog to the back yard and I tried to spend as much time outside as possible. I asked the young man how he could possibly put up with that odor and he indicated he "got used to it". Very strong chemical smell that literally took your breath away.
In watching the process, I didn't see how this machine could clean and seal the grout in one step...it was done in a sweeping motion across the floor, with a machine...at no time was anything applied by hand. I questioned him about the process and he indicated that the machine preformed both tasks. When I had originally sealed the grout I was on my hands and knees applying sealer to the grout with a paint brush.
I left the house immediately after he finished and took the dog with me. You could not tolerate being in the house. Several hours later my husband came home. The toxic smell was still present, he was even more sensitive to it than I and we contemplated spending the night in a hotel. We were both coughing. We put the dog in a crate outside and went to dinner to get out of the house. Upon returning we opened windows and continued using the fans and made it through the night...the next morning I again opened doors and kept the fans running..
Then, I noticed in the days/weeks following that any water that dripped on the floors was immediately absorbed into the grout....to me it did not repel water as a sealer should. The grout around the bath tub was discoloring, where you would get out of the shower. Grout sealer should last 3 years. Then, unfortunately, shortly after the service we had out of state family concerns and unrelated serious health issues.
I had contacted the company and spoke with the owner...she was extremely nice and willing to work with us to correct the situation. I again repeated that I couldn't see how a one step process could clean and seal grout. I also indicated that in no way did I want the process repeated due to the toxic smell, burning eyes and difficulty breathing. She agreed to send someone out and assist us...with all the personal issues we had and being out of town frequently, for weeks at a time, I did not schedule them to come back. I have not heard from them either.
I am writing this review as I repeatedly receive requests from Angie's List for a review on this service and I have been putting it off. Very nice people run this company and if you look at all their reviews for carpet cleaning they appear to have excellent reviews. I did not see any reviews for the tile process. I indicated that I would use them again based on their record for carpet cleaning not tile. Although a great deal of time has passed I would still like some sort of compensation. I have since had the floor cleaned and I sealed the grout by hand using a small paint brush.
"Our tile cleaning process is not toxic and depending on the condition of the tile and grout it can have an offensive odor. Keep in mind a rose smells very good but put yourself in a truck load of them and they to are offensive. There is no product that can clean and seal at the same time and if your grout is accepting water into it and changing the color of it we need to reseal your grout its probable that the seal was improperly applied. This is covered under our guarantee. I'm not sure why clients think that they should wright comments like this with out contacting there service provider to see if the situation can be resolved with out slandering the company. We are very reasonable people and there are thing that could have helped with any lingering odors and most certainly been able to resolve the problem with the seal. We have several reviews on tile and stone cleaning and sealing including Super Service Awards in both categories last year."
The only problem was that I saw a price from them for cleaning carpets, but when they showed up they said it did not apply because of the stain, so it was a lot more expensive.
"Member I'm sorry you feel that way. If carpet has been unreasonably soiled due to lack of regular maintenance there would be additional cost due to in increase cost due to aditional solutions being used to remove abnormaly soiled carpet. The carpet manufacturers recommend cleaning your carpet every 12 months indoing so the spots are removed using less harsh cleaning solutions. It is then recommend to reapply teflon carpet protection back on the carpet. If you have any further questions please give me a call. Earnest Glenn Coit Cleaning and Restoration"
Coit cleaned our dryer vent in May of 2012. It seemed to go well; the company responded in a timely manner and the work was done quickly. After the service was done the technician recommended we get our air ducts clean and gave me a written estimate of $490.00. I filed it away for future reference.
In the Fall the big deal came out for $325 Air Duct cleaning and I purchased it. I'd seen coupons in "home magazines" and mailings for $169 air duct cleaning, but I figured that Coit must do a more thorough job and they were a cut above, so I was willing to
pay more for good service. The coupon had a limit of 11 vents and 1 unit, so with my 19 vents and 2 units I knew there would be an extra charge. Based on the company’s original estimate of $490, and the $325 charge for the first 11 vents, I figured worse case scenario I was looking at $165-$300 more. I was prepared to pay this.
The technician arrived promptly, looked around, and told me there would be extra charges. He got out his calculator and
paper and gave me the news that I needed to pay $465 extra. I was floored by the amount. I told him that didn’t seem fair. He went to his truck to “call the office” and I went to my files to retrieve the company’s original estimate. When he came out and said he was sorry but the $465 extra was the best he could do I showed him the original estimate, which was written by him. He said “My
bad. That estimate was wrong.” He made another call to the office and his next response was, “My boss says either way we are going to lose so why don’t you just get your money back from Angie’s List.” And so I am.
I’ve lost my faith in this company. Some kind of compromise could have been reached, but they seemed to care less about losing my business and were not in any way interested in honoring their original estimate. If a “Big Deal” is going to cost me more than
an original estimate, what good is it?
Lessons learned: don’t ever just trust a company based on their ratings and on an estimate they gave you. Ask lots of questions when you call in to make the appointment so there are no surprises on the day of service. I appreciate the willingness of Angie’s List to help me out and issue a refund.
"Member failed to read her coupon for air duct cleaning. The offer is for 11 vents and one free dryer vent to be cleaned. This was explained to her on the phone before our technician we to the clients home. Member stated the she understood that there would be additional cost for vents over the amount of the coupon. Once The technician arrived there were two AC units in the home with 21 vents including the returns. We feel Member knew what she had and was trying to take advantage of our technician. Most anyone can do simple math that is an additional 10 vents and an additional access charge. The technician offered Member 35% discount on the additional vents. I don't know how else we could have made her happy 62% off the first 11 vents plus free dryer vent and an additional 35% off the remaining vents she had to be cleaned. Some people can't be made happy!!"
