I have a Carrier HVAC system (first chance I get, I will remedy that mistake). My current Carrier service provider has been out to my house more times than I can count--same as the one before them and the one before them. Recently, the furnace quit putting out hot air (of course, its January). They came out and "fixed" the problem--that lasted 3 hours. A few days later they came out again and spent 5 hours trouble-shooting, then presented me with their diagnosis--I have to replace the "mother board" (which cost $1200), and it only comes with a 1-year warranty, so after that--who knows. A new furnace will only cost $2500 and you'll have a 10-year warranty on all the parts. The furnace is 11 years old, so I said fine, replace the furnace. My decision bugged me though because of their inability to tell me exactly what the problem was--I felt like I was being manipulated.
The next day, I decided to get a second opinion (thank God) and called TASCO--they set up an appoint at my convenience for later in the day after I got off work. Lane showed up on time. He went right to work. As he was climbing up the steps to the attic he said, "This won't take long--I'm pretty good at this." I was skeptical, given the hours the previous technicians spent up there. True to his word, in just matter of 30 minutes or so, the furnace started working and he came down the steps and close up the attic. He said it was the sensor that sits in the flame--it was corroded. He cleaned it off with an emery board. He cautioned me that there may be other problems, maybe the board is bad--only time will tell. If it's still running in the morning and you have no further error messages, then we are done. If there are further issues he will come back and trouble-shoot some more.
The next morning, at 4:00 A.M. the heater kicked in and by 4:30 it reached the pre-set 73 degrees--with no error messages.
I'm gong to drop my other service provider and sign up with TASCO. Then, when my Carrier no longer makes sense financially or emotionally, I will go with Lane and TASCO to have them put in a Trane HVAC system.
"[Removed member name], We are sorry that you are upset, but like we explained and have pictures to prove this "crack" in the drain pan was caused by whom ever you had come out and clear the drain line. The system is not un level and is still sealed around the base of the unit. I understand your frustrations but the blame should be focused where the issue truly is. You have even stated that for the first year you had someone else service the equipment. Why would you choose to have this done by another company when we provide a complementary service agreement for the first year after install with a new system? This includes two free system checks. The only time we hear from you was when the drain line was clogged and we mentioned that the contract had expired and for us to come out and unclog the drain line there would be a charge for the service. You decided to call in someone else. Then a few days later you called stating that the drain pan was cracked and needed to be replaced. So we sent a technician out to inspect and found that the person who performed the work on the drain line tried to cut through the PVC and had broken off the nipple for the drain pan and never even tried to seal it up. It was a hole that allowed condensation to flow right out of the coil and cause the problems you mentioned. So yes we noticed this and said the part would be covered but the labor cost would be charged. It has nothing to do with installation errors. I don't know who you have been talking to but we all ways glue every PVC connection to avoid leaks, and if you had a qualified technician servicing this unit this might have never happened. A p-trap is necessary for all negative pressure systems to avid leaks as well, regardless if it makes sense to a non-professional. Negative pressure units have the coil below the blower wheel, which pulls air across the coil instead of pushing air like a positive pressure system. This pull of air with out a p-trap will pull water from the drain pan and you will definitely have water leaks, it is required per system installation manual. You are more than welcome to fact check any of this information. Let me know if you need any more expert advice, seems like you are being lead in the wrong direction."
The overall experience was very good. The technician called 30 minutes ahead and arrived promptly. He inspected the entire system- spent about an hour at my house and listed any issues the system may have had. He never tried to up sale any services and was very frank and honest with his advice. The technician also went the extra mile and inspected the return compartment when he noticed the sound of water leaking. He replaced the fitting for the condensate pipe and clean the entire compartment out. I was very pleased with the overall experience. Will use this company again in the future.
It went well. The supervisor came by later for a follow up to re-check some points. No charge.
I recommend for them to either take their shoes off or put those little booties on when they go into someone's house. Just a recommendations. Thanks
