This is my 2nd time to utilize Tasco Air Conditioning services. The first time was a season system check promo. But this time I had  an actual issue for them to address.  It can be hard to get ahold of someone right away after hours, but if you leave a message Lane is great about getting back to you ASAP.  Moses and Josh were my technicians for this event. They both were very professional and very thoughtful of the their workspace and my home.  They kept everything clean and quickly troubleshooted the issue. It was a capacitor failure along with a faulty panel breaker.  My only complaint was I felt that the price of the capacitor was a bit much, considering that I can get it from Lowes or THD for about 10% of what I was charged. But I am not qualified to tinker with my A/C. Labor costs I feel are very competitive to other HVAC companies. So if you balance it all out, the pricing is good and very fair.

Once thing I will mention is that both Moses and Josh were great about explaining what they were doing and why and explained the invoice. Very friendly guys who genuinely seemed to enjoy their job. I appreciated that. You just do see that much anymore.

Aside from being without A/C for a few days, the process was quite pleasant with Tasco and its team.

I have a Carrier HVAC system (first chance I get, I will remedy that mistake).  My current Carrier service provider has been out to my house more times than I can count--same as the one before them and the one before them.  Recently, the furnace quit putting out hot air (of course, its January).  They came out and "fixed" the problem--that lasted 3 hours.  A few days later they came out again and spent 5 hours trouble-shooting, then presented me with their diagnosis--I have to replace the "mother board" (which cost $1200), and it only comes with a 1-year warranty, so after that--who knows.  A new furnace will only cost $2500 and you'll have a 10-year warranty on all the parts.  The furnace is 11 years old, so I said fine, replace the furnace.  My decision bugged me though because of their inability to tell me exactly what the problem was--I felt like I was being manipulated.

The next day, I decided to get a second opinion (thank God) and called TASCO--they set up an appoint at my convenience for later in the day after I got off work.  Lane showed up on time.  He went right to work.  As he was climbing up the steps to the attic he said, "This won't take long--I'm pretty good at this."  I was skeptical, given the hours the previous technicians spent up there.  True to his word, in just matter of 30 minutes or so, the furnace started working and he came down the steps and close up the attic.  He said it was the sensor that sits in the flame--it was corroded.  He cleaned it off with an emery board.  He cautioned me that there may be other problems, maybe the board is bad--only time will tell.  If it's still running in the morning and you have no further error messages, then we are done.  If there are further issues he will come back and trouble-shoot some more.

The next morning, at 4:00 A.M. the heater kicked in and by 4:30 it reached the pre-set 73 degrees--with no error messages.

I'm gong to drop my other service provider and sign up with TASCO.  Then, when my Carrier no longer makes sense financially or emotionally, I will go with Lane and TASCO to have them put in a Trane HVAC system.

I replaced the AC system both inside and outside in March , 2014. I chose Tasco because its reviews were stellar at the time, even though its quote was $1500 higher than my other bid. I wanted to pick someone who had at least some GOOD track of records. Things did not go very well, though, for me.
1. I replaced the AC with a Trane system with 10 year warranty in March, 2014. 2 months later, it stopped working. I called Tasco and the technician came by and "reset" a switch. It worked fine again. All was good. I was still happy.
2. I have been using another AC guy for regular maintenance. Now since Tasco made me happy, I wanted to switch to use Tasco for my regular maintenance for my other houses. I called the office to set up AC check. Everytime the lady promised she would set it up. But a year has past and at least 5 calls, I gave up. The technician who "reset" the switch told me that Tasco is too busy to handle all the calls because of the good Angie's List reviews. OK, I got it. Good reviews have the good and bad sides.
3. Last month (one year and 4 months after a brand new system), I found the drain pan was full of water. I called Tasco to see if this is covered by the 10 year warranty. They said most likely this is because the drain pipe was clogged and it is not covered by warranty. OK, I called in someone to unclog the pipe for me. He found out that the main drain pan was cracked and needed to be replaced. Then I called Tasco again to find out the main drain pan IS covered by warranty so they would come next day to fix it.
4. Next day, the technician came and claimed that the other AC guy broke the main pan. But he was able to get Trane to cover the parts and the labor is $1000. I asked "Did I have the 10 year warranty". He said the 10 year warranty is for parts only and the labor warranty is $600 extra and it can only be purchased at the time of installation. But I was never mentioned about this labor warranty thing. I had spent $1500 extra to get their "good service", why would I care to spend the extra $600 when I know how expensive the AC labor can be? For this job, the parts is $200 and TASCO's labor is $1000.
5. I began to wonder how my brand new AC unit can have this main drain crack. I asked him whether the crack was formed over time. He said it was not possible because, if it was over time, the whole floor would be full of water. His words led me to 3 discoverings:
A. The floor the AC Unit sits was sagging in the middle because of the weight of the unit. So water would only go down in the middle to the lower pan, instead of spreading all over the floor.
B. The PVC elbows/adapters/pipes coming out from the main drain were all glued with PVC cement. That means the glued assembly was a rigid piece in a very narrow space. If the floor sagged, the assembly was under a lot of stress. This is the drain line, which means the water in the line has no pressure so there is no need to glue all the elbows and adapters, right?
C. In the lower portion of the drain pipes, there was a portion of pipes that shaped like a P trap. What's the use of a p trap in a AC drain line? You need to pour Chlorine down the drain line every now and then to keep the drain line clear of algae. Is a P trap a perfect place to cultivate the algae?
When I explained to the technician all the 3 observations above, I asked if there is at least the likelihood that the AC unit was not installed properly that caused the leak. Then he got mad and said I either hired him to fix it with $1000 labor or I go find someone else to do it.
Well, I found another guy who fixed it for $300 labor.
After the fact I discovered my 10 year warranty won't be good for labor (which I could have purchased the labor warranty if I were informed at the time of installation), most likely I will be left alone to find a contrator of my own to fix all my problems. TASCO is so much more expensive in labor and its quality of work is very disappointing (based on my one year experience). There are strong evidences that this problem was caused by improper installation. But it's hard to prove it, especially when someone else touched the system.
What I am wondering is, if there is some other problems that point to TASCO's responsibility, will TASCO try to get out of it with all kinds of excuses?

Updates:
Thanks for TASCO's response. But here are some facts:
1. The key problem is why the system leaked. The system was leaking before anyone touched it. Let's not focus on who broke the nipple.
2. There was NO service performed before this incident by anyone.
3. The first service was to unclog the drain (after 1 year and 4 months!). TASCO charges $150 minimum, while someone else charges for <$50. I regreted now but who would you choose to do a simple unclogging?
4. No one mentioned to me about the free system checks, just as no one mentioned to me about the labor warranty. Otherwise the probelm would have been discovered during the free checks. Water leaks do not develop overnight.
5. The P trap is well below the coil and pan.
6. I am not professional but I have my reasonable doubts.

Response from Tasco Air Conditioning

"[Removed member name], We are sorry that you are upset, but like we explained and have pictures to prove this "crack" in the drain pan was caused by whom ever you had come out and clear the drain line. The system is not un level and is still sealed around the base of the unit. I understand your frustrations but the blame should be focused where the issue truly is. You have even stated that for the first year you had someone else service the equipment. Why would you choose to have this done by another company when we provide a complementary service agreement for the first year after install with a new system? This includes two free system checks. The only time we hear from you was when the drain line was clogged and we mentioned that the contract had expired and for us to come out and unclog the drain line there would be a charge for the service. You decided to call in someone else. Then a few days later you called stating that the drain pan was cracked and needed to be replaced. So we sent a technician out to inspect and found that the person who performed the work on the drain line tried to cut through the PVC and had broken off the nipple for the drain pan and never even tried to seal it up. It was a hole that allowed condensation to flow right out of the coil and cause the problems you mentioned. So yes we noticed this and said the part would be covered but the labor cost would be charged. It has nothing to do with installation errors. I don't know who you have been talking to but we all ways glue every PVC connection to avoid leaks, and if you had a qualified technician servicing this unit this might have never happened. A p-trap is necessary for all negative pressure systems to avid leaks as well, regardless if it makes sense to a non-professional. Negative pressure units have the coil below the blower wheel, which pulls air across the coil instead of pushing air like a positive pressure system. This pull of air with out a p-trap will pull water from the drain pan and you will definitely have water leaks, it is required per system installation manual. You are more than welcome to fact check any of this information. Let me know if you need any more expert advice, seems like you are being lead in the wrong direction."

I contacted TASCO and was told there would not be a trip charge for them to come out and run a diagnostic to provide me with a repair estimate. I setup an appointment for a diagnostic and at the end of the appointment was billed $55 for the diagnostic. When I contacted the office to discuss the matter they were apologetic but advised that they always charge a diagnostic fee but if I used them for repairs they would credit that towards the repairs. I ended up not using them for the repairs as I didn't trust not being given accurate information from the onset.

They did a great job. We were concerned since we live out of state and needed to replace the furnace. They were really knowledgable and worked with us as this is a rental property. They were super efficient and we are happy with the work they did for us.

The overall experience was very good. The technician called 30 minutes ahead and arrived promptly.  He inspected the entire system- spent about an hour at my house and listed any issues the system may have had. He never tried to up sale any services and was very frank and honest with his advice.  The technician also went the extra mile and inspected the return compartment when he noticed the sound of water leaking.  He replaced the fitting for the condensate pipe and clean the entire compartment out.  I was  very pleased with the overall experience. Will use this company again in the future.

It went well.  The supervisor came by later for a follow up to re-check some points.  No charge.

I recommend for them to either take their shoes off or put those little booties on when they go into someone's house.  Just a recommendations. Thanks
