Description of Work: NIGHTMARE! South Texas Appliance Repair was sent to our home by Lowe's Service Advantage (Lowe's extended protection plan company) to fix a leaking issue with our GE washing machine. Note: This was our 2nd machine of the same model. The 1st machine broke after owning it for 22 days, Lowe's replaced it, no questions asked. The problem with the 1st washer was that the basket could not handle much weight and a metal piece on the bottom of the basket was rubbing and grinding on the metal bottom of the inside of the unit itself. Johnny, from South Texas Appliance Repair came out and set the machine on super load with just WATER ONLY. He said that we actually had TWO issues going on. The first issue was the leak caused by a water fill part that needed replacing, and the second issue was the metal piece on the bottom of the basket rubbing on the bottom metal part of the unit. We explained to him that this was the EXACT same thing that happened with our first machine and that we had been hearing a grinding noise again. Johnny said he had seen this defect before on other GE washers. Johnny said he would include this second issue in his report as well as the damage that he noticed to our flooring from the water leak. Johnny never kept his word on this and never reported these issues like he said he would! Instead, I had to go round and round with South Texas Appliance Repair and Lowe's Service Advantage for over a week about this second issue. Finally, we reported it as a second complaint and got an appointment for a service call. (It would have been helpful if someone told us we had to report it as a separate new complaint!!!) Johnny arrived a second time to address both issues. He replaced the water fill part and told me he wanted to do a load to "test" his repair. He instructed me to add clothes, EACH TIME he mashed and compacted our clothes down into the washer basket with his fist! I looked at him bewildered knowing that this is NOT the proper way to load ANY washing machine AND the GE Owner's Manual says to "loosely load clothes no higher than the top row of holes on the basket". That is the way I ALWAYS operated my machine from day one! So Johnny keeps instructing me to bring him more and more clothes, each time he was mashing and compacting our clothes down with his fist. Finally, the machine is loaded and he tells me to add the detergent, to which I said I already did. So, I'm thinking to myself, this clown doesn't know how to load my machine and he doesn't even know that the detergent goes in first! I kept my mouth shut thinking that maybe he knew more about appliances than I did and that maybe this was part of his "test". Johnny starts the load, lets it run a few minutes, then says everything should be ok now. My husband, who was in the next room the whole time, asked him what he did to repair the grinding metal problem and Johnny said he, "bent a piece of metal back". He had me sign the invoice and he quickly left. Johnny wasn't gone two minutes when the machine started violently grinding, clanking and vibrating, worse than before! The machine actually moved across my laundry room it was so bad! So, I immediately called Lowe's Service Advantage to let them know what had just happened. I spoke to a girl named Laura, she said she was going to try and speak to Johnny and she put me on hold for a few minutes. What she said next is unbelievable! Laura told me that Johnny said I overfilled my machine and that he had pictures to prove it and they were refusing to return to our home to fix our machine. My head nearly exploded at this point but I still remained calm considering the accusations! I told Laura that Johnny was the one who mashed and compacted my clothes down with his fist and that I have NEVER loaded my machine this way and that he was a liar and so on. Laura kept trying to talk over me through the whole conversation. She said our only option at this point was to have another tech come out for a second opinion BUT, if that second tech found the same problem, we would be responsible for the service call and any parts and labor. I explained to Laura that we purchased the Extended Protection Plan to avoid problems like this. I told her I would agree to a second opinion but I would NOT agree to having to pay if they found the same problem because how did I know they weren't going to send another LIAR out to my home. In the end, I wouldn't agree to her terms, and that was that. My husband drove right over to Lowe's where we purchased our machine and asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor was professional and respectful and offered my husband credit for what we had paid on the washer towards a new washer of our choice. We appreciate Lowe's giving us the credit, but the stress, aggravation and abuse we went through with South Texas Appliance Repair AND Lowe's Service Advantage was inexcusable! What happened to us is so wrong on so many levels. I was secretly photographed in my own home without my consent! I was falsely accused of improperly operating my machine and set up to make it look like a case of customer negligence in order to avoid having to replace a defective product. We were denied further service by South Texas Appliance Repair even though they are contractually obligated with Lowe's Service Advantage to guarantee their repairs for 30 days! We want everyone to know about South Texas Appliance Repair and Lowe's Service Advantage and how unscrupulous and deceitful they are! We would not recommend GE appliances, South Texas Appliance Repair or Lowe's Service Advantage to anyone. National Electronics Warranties, Corp (N.E.W.) is responsible for enforcing this and many other extended protection plans for many MAJOR companies. If you purchased an extended protection plan for ANYTHING you own, read the fine print to see if N.E.W. is involved. We will NEVER purchase another extended protection plan and we will do our own research on any service companies that come to our home in the future. We will also consider setting up a video camera next time since obviously we may need the documentation to defend ourselves against liars! It's too bad good service techs have to suffer for the deceitful ones and it's too bad good, hard working people like us are treated this way! PS- Don't trust the BBB ratings! South Texas Appliance Repair got an "A"! Do your own search for the "so and so company" and "complaints". We found PAGES of complaints against them with TONS of horror stories!
