My experience with this company could be divided into 2 categories; service before the sale, and service after the sale. Before the sale - customer friendly. After the sale - nonresponsive. My home is very cold in the winter months. It is so cold, that items in the kitchen cabinet feel like they were in the refrigerator. After searching Angie's List for a company to do the insulation into the side walls, I chose Rhino Energy Solutions LLC based on their reviews. In order to access the walls in the downstairs living areas, it was necessary to cut a hole in the pitched roof. When the insulation job was completed, the hole was to be covered with a vent hood and sealed to prevent any leaks. Before allowing this work to be done, I repeatedly asked about the possibility of leakage and how long the warranty period would be in the event of a leak. The work was completed in early 2014, and I was told it was covered with a 5 year warranty. Here's where the problem begins.
My experience with Forrest (the owner) and his staff (son and another employee), during the pre-sale and installation period was positive, They were polite, appeared knowledgeable, and were reassuring. After the work was completed, the company was not quite as responsive. Now they are not responding to any of my calls, texts or emails. Initially, I had to make multiple calls, and emails to have Forrest submit my proper information to the local energy provider to obtain my rebate. I also, didn't notice a big change in the temperature of the insulated areas in my home and reported this to Forrest. He reported that it would be more beneficial to check the inside temperature when the outside temps were a little warmer, so he did come by to check in the warmer months of spring to no avail. If it were to be checked now (winter) one would find that there is still a built in fridge in my insulated cabinets!
On October 24, 2015, a leak developed in the living room during a rain. The ceiling, wall, baseboard, and flooring were wet and damaged. I had a roofer come out ASAP and he found the roof vent was totally unsealed on the bottom edge. He took some photos, placed some sealant and advised me to contact the company that installed the roof vent. I called Forrest the following day to notify him. After 3 appointments that the company cancelled, Forrest came on 11/12/15 to view the damage from the leak and look at the roof. Forrest stated that I "should contact my insurance company and he that he would contact his insurance company and then see which route would be better." He stated that his" insurance company would be contacting me, but because of the recent rains, it may not be that week." After giving it some thought, I realized that this work was still under warranty, and I preferred to proceed with the warranty and not my insurance. I emailed Forrest the same night to inform him. I still have not heard from Rhino Energy Solutions' insurance company, nor has any representative from Rhino Energy Solutions contacted me to followed up. They are completely ignoring my correspondence! Since 11/12/15, there has been no response from Forrest or any representative from the company to my calls, texts or emails! Ignoring a problem does not make it go away. This is not the customer service that I anticipated or accept from this or any company.
"Although items mentioned in this case were well out of warranty and insurance believed to be a result of the tremendous amount of rain and storm this previous year, we are working with customer to resolve this matter."
The upfront work was done in an efficient manner; however, I was promised a $557 CPS Rebate that has still not materialized after a year and a half. I was told there could be a delay, but after 9 months I contacted Mr. Elliott and was told that CPS probably mishandled things and Rhino would refile the rebate paperwork. It has now been an additional 9 months and still there has been no rebate on my CPS bills.
"We definitely do not want to have a bad grade when quality was good, but paperwork did not go through. We have provided CPS with this information and will work to get this rebate issued.Sometimes, we are not provided with the information or reasons rebates are not issued. If this customer would please contact our office, we will try and follow up with Electric provider again."
Forrest was extremely responsive. I called and he was able to come by, I believe, the next day to an energy audit to determine why my electric bill was outrageous and the temperature varied throughout the house. Right away he determined there was virtually no insulation in the attic (easier said than done considering the dark, 3 ft crawl space filled with giant metal ducts) except what was left from the original install in 1975. I was able to schedule to have the work done in about 5 days. I'm not sure if the price was good or not but I really liked Forrest and he was available to get the work done ASAP...that made it the right price! He and his crew arrived when they said they would, blew in the insulation, mended ducts, expelled all the critters in the attic, and replaced the broken booster fan blocking the air going to the opposite end of the house.
I also texted Forrest Friday with concerns that there was hot air coming out of the vent when the AC wasn't on, he said he could be there the next day to check it out. He showed up when he said he would, determined that coincidently, I walked under the vent right when the AC turned on and all the hot air was being pushed from the duct. There was no issues other than my bad timing.
I will continue to use this company for everything and anything they can provide that I need in the future.
My experience was phenomenal with Mr. Elliott. He first came exactly a week before the work was done for inspection and we went over how I could not stand getting into my attic because of how hot it was in there. Another issue that I was having is that I even had a raccoon living in a part of my attic that had never been seen or insulated until his crew came on work day. When he inspected everything, he noticed that the two fans I had then were out of date and probably had quit working months ago.
Work day comes, and they made it on the time that I had asked them to come because I had to drop off my children. They were respectable of my situation and came at the time I was available. They set up two solar fans as replacements the old fans I had first that way air could already being circulating. They did not take long to do the insulation part of the job until the employee who was blowing the insulation found a secret part of my attic that I had no idea was there. Turns out the company that insulated my attic before them had covered up the little gap with a plastic radiant barrier. I was pleased that the employee was professional enough to actually tell me about my secret attic room and he went ahead and insulated it at no extra cost.
"We are working with a new foam crew to get this resolved. We definitely want to make sure the customer gets everything that was in the estimate."
"This customers information was put into our system under a maiden name. All paperwork has been submitted to CPS and they should receive the rebate quickly. Entirely our overlook on this one. Thanks for your patience !"
"We tried to find this customer in our history of jobs to no avail. I am not sure how accurate this is being almost three years ago and just now leaving a review. Will check to see if customer bought coupon through Angie's List."
"We requested for Angie's List to refund this coupon for this customer because it was out of our service area."
"All solar fans have a minimum 10 yr warranty. If these have not been replaced yet, please call us when you can and we will get them repaired or replaced for you. Thanks"
We purchased ?$180 for Attic Inspection, plus an insulation and ventilation Analysis? by Rhino Energy Solutions LLC on Oct 8th 2014.
Our contact was Mr. Forrest Elliot/ Rhino Energy Solutions, who arrived on the 13th of October on time.
Almost immediately he went up into the attic and remained up there for about 5-7 minutes. He came down and discussed what Rhino Energy Solutions was going to do for us.
Rhino Energy Solutions estimate was: raise our ?R? rating up to 48 to 52 and seal all the duct work.
After Mr. Elliot departed, we printed out the Big Deal paperwork and there was a list of items that was supposed to be inspected/checked as part of the deal; here are the results:
Attic insulation and ventilation inspection/completed
Check for air leaks/not completed
Verify quality of current attic insulation R-values/completed
Analyze heating and cooling loss/not completed
Inspect A/C unit for air leaks and efficiency issues/not completed
Inspect hot water heater insulation and water lines/not completed
Mr. Elliot was focused primarily on what his company could improve in the attic. He did not go outside and look at our A/C unit nor look at our hot water heater. As for analyzing heating/cooling loss, he had no equipment with him in the house nor attic so he conducted just a visual inspection of the attic.
I gave price a "B" because if you hire Rhino Energy Solutions, they will credit $150 towards any work that you hire them for. This was the main reason why we purchased this deal.
Response to Rhino Energy Solutions
This customer purchased a coupon that specified services we do not offer.
And this is my fault? It seems that Rhino Energy Solutions doesn't keep their coupon deals on Angie's List up to date. I purchased what was available.
We did complete all inspections that we provide.
Not according to the checklist. If it was out of date, it was YOUR responsibility to notify us.
We are not an A/C company and have no way to determine efficiency of the A/C unit itself.
Then why was that deal even available in the first place?
We have contacted Angie's to change wording on coupon.
Too little too late
The customer never asked about details of the A/C inspection or we would have explained this.
Your coupon, YOUR responsibility!
They did hire us to do the work on the attic while knowing this.
NO! We expected the entire checklist to be run as we are new in this home and wanted to know how efficient it is.
We took off the price of the coupon.
This you did do.
Unfortunately, this customer hired us as a contractor, knowing full well they were not going to pay for the services we did, or let us correct any issues they might have.
Sorry, the service you provided us we did pay IN FULL. We are only asking for a refund for the shoddy, incomplete work your son did as well as lying to my wife as well as you in reference to the work he supposedly completed. Let's not forget the damage he did that we had to get repaired and additional insulation we had to purchase and have installed due to your company not meeting it's agreement. Anyone thinking about hiring Rhino Energy Solutions for attic insulation should read my review of their work (rated "F"). Especially if you are physically handicapped or elderly and are not able to immediately inspect their work after they are finished.
Mr. Elliot,
It seems we are going around in circles and it?s getting tiresome. You are correct, I didn?t voice my concerns or complaints within the proper amount of time about the issues concerning what wasn?t done, I didn?t plan on climbing up into the attic after the job was finished as I relied on the professionalism of the company and with my physical handicap, I really didn?t want to; things didn?t go right, as you stated.
Your last email clearly shows that you too are getting tired of this run around as am I and I apologize. To clarify, the trend I see in our emails is: You may or may not admit that your son did some things wrong, you did however, believe your son over the customer (us), but you were willing to come out to inspect the job he did, thank you for coming out. We proved that your son did not perform the tasks you assigned him through photos. When you came out and inspected his work you saw it for yourself. Your company failed to meet the agreement which you drew up (to provide an ?R? rating of 48-52 and seal all duct work), a duct cuff was damaged and dislodged during the job and not repaired; we stated to you that day, in person that we no longer had faith in your company and asked for a refund on the portion of the job that was not satisfactorily done (insulation) or not even done (duct sealing). Again, we only asked for a refund of $250 (duct sealing) and $450 (insulation) since we had already paid in full the amount a week prior to Rhino Energy Solutions ($1555.00) subtracting the $100 discount (thus making the charge $1455.00) you were kind enough to give us on the duct sealing, again thank you for that.
I made no threats to you Mr. Elliot; I merely stated what my actions were going to be and thus have occurred. I have filed my reviews with Angie?s List on both your Big Deal coupon and I have also filed my complaint with the BBB. How you wish to respond to these offices is your and Rhino Energy Solutions business. I will leave it up to the aforementioned agencies to handle my complaint. If you choose to continue to operate in the manner that you and your son presented yourselves to us in the business world is your choice.
I do wish you and your son a happy and prosperous life and successful business and I will pray for you both.
God Bless
