I called to see if I could get service on Saturday, their ad here says they have Saturday service. After calling the number I was referred to, they told me to call the number again while I was on the phone with them. After all that, they told me to call on Monday. If you don't have Saturday hours, remove the hours from your listing. There was no work performed, since they wouldn't come out when I needed them.

We have used Mister Sparky before and have always been more than pleased with "Dana" who is the repairman we usually request to do any and all electrical work for us.  Great service - great company!

We just wanted to post this as a warning because we felt that these people were trying to the senior citizen owner. My grandmother is really very friendly but not knowledgeable about electrical things. We were helping set up some estimates from various companies and had to be out of the house for the first one so she was going to talk to them herself.
When we got back later, it turned out they had spent hours with her, convinced her that she needed $18,000 worth of repair work, and actually had got her to sign things right then and there including signing her up for credit cards over the phone and convincing her to  sign a contract to pay even though she didn't even have the other half of the money. She told them she didn't even know if her bank would give her the rest of the money, so they clearly knew that also but still had her sign for the work.
When we got back and realized what they had done, we explained it to her and had her cancel all the work and the credit and everything.
Within the next few days we got 3 quotes from 3 other reputable companies on Angies list to fix the problem. The quotes were for $1000, $1100, and $1250.
They can't even use the excuse of being a higher-end company because their price wasn't just double or even triple their competitors, it was over $15,000 more than the most expensive quote we got. There is clearly a problem here.
This work involved city permits and CPS involvement. We had the work done by one of those companies and it was approved and in compliance.
There is NO reason why a company would be so far out of price proportion unless they are either grossly inflating their costs or trying to take advantage of someone. I'll leave you to decide what you think it was.
Response from Mister Sparky of San Antonio

"As the business owner, first off I'd like to say that I am sorry for the experience you had with one of my technicians. I am appalled that this happened and I'm surprised that you did not contact the office and request to speak to a manager regarding this matter. We would have been more than happy to answer any questions or concerns regarding this issue however you never offered us the chance to. To Angie’s List members, I can assure you this is NOT the way we conduct business nor do I condone my technicians to take advantage of our valuable clients. I'd like to add that the member is one of our club members and has had us out to her home before. At that time we made it clear to her about the necessary repairs that needed to be done however due to finances she chose to forgo repairs at that time. I can GUARANTEE that the repairs and estimates she received for under $1500 were NOT equivalent to the repairs we recommended and left her an estimate for. We pride ourselves on service and the honest treatment we give our clients. There are several happy clients here that are Angie's List members who are very pleased with the services we provided to them. We are not the lowest bidder and we are very upfront with clients about our prices. If you want quality work done by highly trained, licensed and bonded electricians, we're your guys."

So this inspection package is supposed to be for peace of mind, hence its bundled with an A/C and plumbing company. The electrician that did the inspection was a nice man who really seemed to know what he was talking about. I have no issue with him as a person, but his selling tactics. My home was build in 1979 in case anyone wants to know. His inspection said that I needed to replace both panels, all the wiring, fix the grounding system, put in arc fault breakers, surge protection, install GFI plugs in necessary places, and put a dedicated outlet for my microwave. He made a point to talk about my panels burning up and the bus bars being burnt, potential fire hazard, getting everything up to code, blah blah blah. All in all, the estimate for the job was over 6K. I know the company has all licensing, bonding, insurance protection and the job would be completed professionally and warrantied, but come on 6K is a bit much. Oh well, like I always do, I lined up other estimates. I purposely got more estimates that normal and had each person come out and inspect for the free estimate.  First off, I didn't get a single estimate over 3K for the exact same repairs/replacements recommended by Mr. Sparky. Second, Sparky failed to mention that my home is grandfathered past the ''major code violations" that apparently needed to be fixed asap. Thirdly, after being inspected by several licensed master electricians, each one of them said there was no need to replace the panels. There was no burning, no fire hazards, everything was wired proper, GFIs were already in place, and the only thing that I needed was the dedicated microwave outlet and the GFI in the kitchen. Wow. I ended up getting my grounding system fixed by a reputable company for $130 versus the $774 Mr. Sparky wanted for the same job, And the dedicated outlet for the microwave that Sparky wanted almost $500 for? Had an Angie's List company do it for $200. As for the bi-annual inspection? That is the first and last time I'm dealing with Mr. Sparky.

"As the manager of Mister Sparky, I'd like to apologize that we were unable to help you out with any repairs. I'd like to say we are not the lowest bidder in San Antonio for the reasons you have mentioned in your review. We are licensed, bonded and insured. We offer background checked and uniformed employees. We provide fully stocked trucks to eliminate part runs and we are one of the few electrical contractors in the city that offer these services. Our warranties and guarantees cannot be matched and from I understand that may not have been as important to you as it may be to some of our other clients and Angie's List members. As far as the "grandfather" clause goes, simply because your home was grandfathered in this fact does not make your home safe. The repairs that were recommended were suggested to you for a reason and our highly trained technicians are taught to catch these risks and code violations. There were some very serious safety concerns that were addressed in your inspection and we are required to make you aware of potential hazards. You were not under any circumstance required to make these repairs however we are required to bring them to your attention. We are very sorry we were unable to help you with the repairs and we like to clarify to Angie's List members that we did not do any repairs at this residence and the customer did not have to pay for our estimate."

It was a good experience. They came out at the time they said they would. The price was exactly what the quote said it would be.

I called and Mr, Sparky was to show on March 2, 2011. My wife and I sat home all day and there was No Show by Mr. Sparky. I call early on March 3, 2011, to see if they were coming that day and why they did not show the day before. The receptionists said just a minute and then a male voice came on and said they had there was no record of me calling them. He told me he was the owner several times and they would give me a free service charge but could not come out that day. He insinuated that I lied but why would I want to set home all day waiting. I told him there would be no service charge because I coul not depend on them to show. The Company is unreliable and does not admit their mistakes.

Called Mister Sparky after seeing TV ads, and their zipcode was same as mine. Needed help moving some outdoor electrical outlets and lighting previously installed [everything worked, but needed to re-arrange due to changes in landscaping, trees, bushes, etc. Mister Sparky arrived promptly in his shiny truck, dressed well and had appropriate ID [he was the same tech as in their TV commercials]. Showed him what I needed and he asked who installed the previous electrical [I did tell him]. He then requested to inspect all of the other electrical work the other two contractors had done over the years [inside and outside]. I showed him. Then he wanted to inspect the indoor and outdoor circuit boxes. He quickly told me that my entire house was "out of code" electrically; even including the work our San Antonio swimming pool contractor had performed 20 years ago [the house was built in 1987]. He then told me it would cost between $10-12,000 to correct the problems and re-wire the entire house [we were not having any electrical problems - just wanted outdoor lighting re-arranged]. He told me, by law, he could not even change a light bulb until these infractions were corrected. I told him to go away. He charged my an $85.00 service call anyway, and stated that if I did not pay him on the spot, his company would refer me to "collections". I wrote him a check. This was a terrible experience! I have since used another Angie's List electrical comapny [Hill Electric]; and have written a very positive report on them twice.

The job was fine. I felt that he was very professional and knew what he was talking about. I also felt that he wasn't trying to sell me something that I didn't need.

We are very impressed with the electrician who arrived promptly; took his time to determine if some of our problems could be fixed (some could not be fixed); arrived with a PRINTED LIST OF REPAIR AND INSTALLATION COSTS!!!! We will definitely use this company (the $29.00 is their 'standby' rate which means we plan to use Mister Sparky for our projects). Their 'estimate' rate would be a little higher. The electrician who arrived was personable; responsible; neat (wore uniform) and very cognizant of our needs.

They explained what they were going to do to fix it and ordered the parts. They returned when they said they would and completed the work to our satisfaction. Mando and Ernest were very professional, courteous, and prompt and we would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
