Hello Everyone:
Decided six weeks ago to hire a cleaning company after our old housekeeper of eight years moved on. Nervous at first because I didn't know what I would get, but decided to give Maids Around Town a chance. I am pleased that they have been VERY professional. I have been hiring them weekly (four hours) for six weeks now and plan to stay with them. Definitely one of the better decisions I've made lately.
Our cleaner is Andrea C. and she has always shown up on time (8 AM) and dedicated the allotted four hours to cleaning. Plus, she is flexible. If I want extra time in one room and a quick cleaning for another, she accommodates (2400 sq. ft. home) so it's not small. Also, we have two dogs and one cat and LOTS OF BOOKSHELVES, so it did take Andrea about three weeks to really get the swing of things, but now she really moves. She takes time to make sure the cleaning is good. I mean, there is so much animal fur on the carpets and on the shelves after a week, but she does a great job at getting all of it.
Moreover, she works with me to report on any issues in / with the house. If there is a leaky faucet or toilet handle that won't come back up quickly, she tells me so I can fix it ASAP. In the beginning, she knocked down a trophy from a wobbly bookcase and it disassembled. She immediately told me about it and apologized profusely. (I fixed it.) I was very impressed with her honesty. She is my eyes, ears, and hands in this house. I trust her implicitly.
Andrea always leaves a checklist of what's been done and allows me the chance to evaluate what I might want her to focus on the following week. I receive an email / text reminder the day before that she is coming, and a billing invoice / receipt via email later in the day after cleaning is complete with a company contact phone number and email if not satisfied (but always have been).
While I want to stress that the service is light housekeeping, it is still very good. Sometimes people forget there is a difference between a THOROUGH cleaning and LIGHT housekeeping. I was guilty of that. Not until I started downsizing my house over the last year and removing many knick-knacks did I realize that sometimes we expect perfection instead of a reasonable cleaning.
Just two weeks ago her supervisor showed up and wanted to talk to me to see how I liked the service. Asked me what they could do to make sure I would rate them at a 10 for services rendered. Couldn't really think of anything. Did comment that I really enjoy the rate of $20 / hour (minimum of 3 hours) because I can add more hours on the go; and, I am credited if I cut back on any hours. Granted, there is a $5 cleaning supply fee, but it's for "green" supplies. I do prefer they use some of my cleaning supplies for high end furniture, but that's OK. They do background checks on their employees, and taxes are included in the bill, so I never am, dare I say it, paying someone under the table to clean my house. I pay a legitimate employee of a legitimate company.
There is no long-term contract, so that's a plus. The company is very flexible in regards to hours, number of people you want to clean your home at a time (more folks will call for slightly higher rates), but their rates are one of the best in this competitive field. I live in San Antonio so this review applies to this city.
