I have given an F for Overall Experience to Jon Wayne because Mr. Ortiz was going to have me repair a perfectly functional indoor capacitor. That is a deal-breaker for me. He never told me that if I keep the filters clean, I could do without the drain monitor he recommended in his IPAD report. The only way I could get a hard copy of his report was to send it to my email from his IPAD. The wording on the report is not part-specific, for instance, '..renovate outdoor electrical and air movement' What does that mean exactly in regard to specific parts and labor? If it said 'replace dual capacitor', that would be something the owner could verify. And I can get freon if I ever need it from another company for $25 a pound including labor--a whole lot less than $300.00. I called Jon Wayne and requested that they charge me the $99 for the one maintenance call, and refund the remaining balance of the $179.00 I paid. I won't be needing their services.
Description of Work: I am a 60 year old woman with a 1820 sf one story track home with a Carrier 4 ton air handler and a 3 ton outdoor heat pump with no drain monitor on my system. My system is working fine right now. I have maintenance performed at least once, if not twice per year. Two years ago the capacitor for the outdoor unit failed and was replaced. Supposedly a pound of freon was added 3 years ago for free by a previous technician because it was low and I might have a leak. Those were the only repairs my system has needed since installation in 2003. I keep the filter clean, and pour vinegar and hot water down the drain line. I called Jon Wayne to perform the first annual maintenance for 2012. I was quoted one service for $99. An annual contract with two maintenance visits and 20% discount for parts, etc. was $179.00. I opted for the annual with high hopes for this company. Mr. Albert Ortiz was the technician that performed my system maintenance. He was prompt, and nice. Took time to explain things to me when I asked a question. He pointed out to me the indoor capacitor that he said was failing. When he was done, he showed me the list of recommended repairs on his IPAD. It said, "Electrical faults in outdoor and indoor components, no super boost, outdoor fan motor close to max amps. Option 1: Indoor voltage absorption, renovate outdoor electrical and air movement, drain monitor $2125 - 20% = $1700. Option 2: Indoor voltage absorption, compressor super boost, voltage absorption $905 - 20% = $724. Option 3: Voltage absorption indoor and out $505 - 20% = $404. Option 4: Outdoor voltage absorption $310-20% = $249." He explained what all this meant, and added that my outdoor unit was smaller than my indoor unit so it was taking a long time to cool down the air in my house. It wasn't efficient. I had asked him if the annual maintenance agreement included replacing freon if needed (remembering another company had given me a pound free). He said no, and that regardless of the amount of freon needed, 10 oz or more, the price would be at least $300. He further explained that the government wanted to do away with freon and A/C units that used freon so the price of freon was going up drastically. He said the choice of repair options was up to me but Option 1 for $1700 was the best value. He explained that if I had a water leak, the drain monitor would turn off my system and prevent flooding. He also said he noticed that the outdoor capacitor had been replaced but only partially. In my mind that sounded bad because my A/C quit before I replaced that the first time. I did not want that to happen again. Not sure if I wanted to pay $1700 to repair a 9 year old system, I asked him to give me estimates for a new system. He gave me estimates for a Bryant Alamo at 11,000, and a Crockett at $14,500 plus $3250 for a complete maintenance agreement. He explained about the UV, humidity, annual filter feature, computer control, and the 35 to 45% energy savings. Also, I could get a CPS rebate of $437.50, and Federal government credit of $300.00 if I bought a new unit. I told him I needed to think about what to do. After a sleepless night, I decided to get a second opinion. I paid a company from Angie's List with excellent ratings to check out my system. I told them nothing about the suggested repairs. He had me start the cooling, and then the heating while he did his diagnostic check. The only potential problem he saw was the outdoor dual capacitor, but said it probably would go for another couple of months. It was rated 50 but operating at 45. I asked how the indoor capacitor was functioning. He had me hold and read the monitor. Rated at 10, the capacitor reading was 9.6. I was told it was fine. He said having a drain monitor is nice, but if I keep the filter clean, I should not have to worry about damage. He said my outdoor unit was in good condition and that there were no problems that warranted a complete replacement of my system. Oh, and he charges $25 per pound of freon including labor, AND explained unless you have a leak you should never have to add freon. AND, he told me I do not have a leak! I have given an F to Jon Wayne because Mr. Ortiz was going to have me repair a perfectly functional indoor capacitor. Now I do not trust this company. He never told me that if I keep the filters clean, I could do without a drain monitor. And I can get freon if I ever need it from another company for a whole lot less.

Called company to get an estimate to replace furnace. Repairman talked to me about all the services and monthly contracts for about 40 minutes non of which I was interested in. Gave way bloated estimate. Few days later when I looked at the written estimate there was nothing there just charge for visit...What a waste of money and time. Would not do business with them.

They did an excellent job. They were neat and clean. They were fast and they did what they were going to do. They picked up after themselves. Everything worked just fine; they went right by the book. The staff was educated, polite, and courteous. They did their job and asked permission for whatever they were going to do. They were well spoken. They are all good people. There were no problems. Their price was excellent. The quality of work was excellent. They were extremely responsive; they were out here the next day. They were on time every day. They were definitely very professional.

They send out salespeople to do the initial calls and they are not always as knowledgeable as the people that actually do the job. It is better to find a way to get a supervisor out because they are going to try to get you to do the most expensive thing. Service-wise, they are fantastic but their salespeople are not that great. I have to use them because of the warranty but if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t use them.

The compressor unit of our air conditioner went out during very hot conditions in the beginning of July. It's a ten year old unit and other service providers indicated that a wiring bridge (maybe the "contactor?") and the capacitor right next to it were both on their last legs. I decided to try a different company due to the constant pressures to buy an entirely new system - the hard sales pitch got really annoying. So, I called Jon Wayne as soon as the A/C went out hoping to have a better experience. Well, it was worse. The tech knew my distaste for the sales pitch as I told him pretty quickly as he asked why I was trying a new A/C group, the other was Agee's if you're interested. He continued to give me the most ridiculous list of options to buy from. The cheapest at $620 was a "band-aid" as he termed it, to simply repair the broken parts (isn't that what he was there for?), but the rest of the options went all the way up to a 10 year service agreement for something like $4,000!! Why in the world do I need to spend thousands of dollars just to have them come out and tell me that it's broken and needs to be replaced for X number of dollars? What a racket! At any rate I purchased the seemingly very expensive "band-aid" option for $620 that replaced the capacitor and contactor. Each cost an even $310 which seemed odd that they didn't include a breakdown for parts and labor. The receipt also was unclear about exactly what was replaced, possibly to make it difficult to check what work he did. But I was under pressure to get the thing fixed to get out of the heat. I should add this fact about their service trucks - an indication that they are ripping their customers off: The truck had an auto-start remote control, he used a 3G iPad to do the workups (something like $700 for the ipad), and the remote he had also had the ability to open side panels on the van. Very high tech and very expensive. It seems to me they're doing very well, and I don't mind success, but there should be customer value included with that. After a few days of use the A/C went out again and it turned out to be a loose wire from the work they performed. My suggestion is to use someone else.
Description of Work: Replace failed parts: Capacitor and wiring bridge (maybe called the "contactor?") failure required replacement.

Response from Jon Wayne Service Company
This year we began utilizing the iPad to increase the productivity of our technicians in the field. This device helps our service technician’s better communicate with our office staff. It also increases their ability to work smarter, faster and more accurately. This helps us get to more customers cooling needs. This is important because there is high demand for the quality service we provide, especially during record high temperatures. We also work very hard to provide our customers with all their repair options upfront before the work begins. We take the time to present these options from a simple band-air solution all they way up to the most ideal solution that addresses all deficiencies and provides the most comfort and future energy savings. Most of our customers appreciate this level of professionalism. It has been an incredible challenge to provide same day responses during the busiest summer that our company and city has ever faced. We are very proud of how our technicians have risen to the challenge despite record temperatures this year. In this case, the client was clear that he didn’t want someone to try and sell him a new system. We didn’t attempt to sell him one. We offered repair options for worry free operation of the system. In his review, the client assumes that if his system broke again, that someone would try to sell him a new one. We feel that is an unfair assumption, has no basis whatsoever in fact and therefore should be disregarded when reading this review. The cost for the repairs was $620.00. In order to get the system running again two repairs were required and both fell into a category for which the cost is $310 each. We work on a flat rate basis and have found that our customer tend to prefer this. Flat rate means that the cost quoted is what the cost will be regardless of any problems that are discovered during the repair process. If we run into problems with the repair, we incur the addition expense, not the customer. The price for a repair goes far beyond the cost of the part being replaced. It includes the costs associated with hiring, training and maintaining the most advanced NATE certified technicians in San Antonio and keeping them on the road day after day. It also includes the cost of keeping a support staff in operation that can support that Technician. We feel that cutting corners on these things to lower our prices would result in giving our customers poor service and we are not comfortable with doing that. It is simply not possible to provide quality technicians, response times and quality guarantees by trying to be the cheapest price in town. If there was any pressure at all during this transaction, it did not come from our technician. Yes, we are extremely busy this summer, but our technicians take the time to thoroughly examine each system and explain all of the repair options available. No pressure. Just sound solutions to the problem. Perfection, although unattainable, is our goal. We understand that we cannot be all things to all people but we do try to be the best air conditioning service company that can we can possibly be. Finally, regarding the fancy remote for the service van… well no apologies for that one. Our technicians work a lot of hard hours responding to requests from our ever growing clientele. Everywhere they go, the AC is broken and customers are uncomfortable… not very pleasant when we are having record breaking temperatures. If that remote makes it easier or more comfortable for them to work, then we will make sure that they have it. If they made a better one, we’d get it. Our technicians deserve it.

They came for installation two days after the quote, on a Saturday. It took them longer than the salesman said it would, although it did seem like a great deal of work for two guys. A third guy came to the job site which seemed like it would have sped up the job, but he just came to tell the other installers he wasn't going to do his part (the blown insulation) and was leaving them the machine and they could do it themselves. So after they finished for the most part putting in the unit, the blew the insulation, but when they "cleaned" up, there was a great deal of the insulation left in the front yard. Pink, debris all over the yard. When they were leaving, I asked them where the return air grates were. To which the installers said, they weren't on the truck, but I could sign the order, that the job wasn't complete until the grates were installed. Mind you, one of the main things I was looking forward to, was walking down my hall and seeing the brand new grates and enjoying my cold air. (because the unit runs so smooth, you rarely hear it on) So I let them go. Even when the finance company called a week later to ask if the install was done, I told them no, the grates were not in. Payment was not supposed to begin until the job was complete. Well I am making payments already, and two months later, still no grates. To be sure, they have tried, just not very hard to get the grates in. 3 weeks ago, they sent out an installer, with the wrong size. apologized, remeasured and said they would order the right size. They called once while i was at work to say they were in, but since then I have called twice and have not heard back, just apologies and promises that managers would get involved and I would get my grates. Meanwhile, I walk down the hall and look at my torn up grate (because they had to put back in the one they ripped out when the grates didn't fit the first time) and a purchase I was proud of for its cost, technology and environmentally healthy impact, and feel neglected and not cared for and just a little bit angry. And after 13k, that isn't how I should feel. Update: The new grates were installed just 15 minutes ago. They look great, and it only took them 15 minutes. Kinda makes me wonder why they couldn't get them on the truck at the installation. But I am satisfied now. I guess it is the "cost" of doing business with such a large company during the busy season. But being so large, you would think they had the guys to spare 15 minutes, plus maybe 45 mins drive time a little sooner rather than later.
Description of Work: They removed my 30 year old furnace and a/c and replaced it with a brand new unit both inside and out. The unit included a 4 ton 17SEER unit with humidity control, air filtration unit, and ultraviolet germ reducer. It was supposed to include two new return air grates to go over the air return upstairs and downstairs as the grates had become old and in disrepair just like the old ac unit. The deal they were offering also added 5 inches of blown insulation in the attic they could get into.

AC went out and they were very prompt to get out the next day to look at it. They found a mess, i had several leaks. The rep was great and really worked with me with price and getting my AC drain fixed properly. ($800 job for nothing) Or so he claimed. He stated that he would like for me to do a Client statement and would come back after the new AC was installed. After the job was done I didn't hear from them again until it was time to have the 8 month check up on my unit. At least they reminded me that i needed to change my filter. Love the unit, but sometimes feel that it was overpriced.

I wouldn't allow them in my house again. a good indicator that it was a rip off, was that if I signed for the repairs that day I would get a discount on the parts. This was nothing more than a high pressure sales job.
Description of Work: We had Jon Wayne come out on one of their inspection specials. The repairman did very little actual maintenance, but rather spent his time writing up an estimate for suggested repairs. He had a list that cost over $6000 on a 5 year old AC that was working fine. We contacted another AC service and he said our AC was in good shape and to have maintenance done every 6 months. The suggested repairs was more than a new unit would cost.

We have reviewed our records and do not see where we serviced the member's unit in 2009. However, we did service his equipment in 2007. We believe this review was meant for another A/C service company but was left for us by mistake.

They are very knowledgeable. They are very courteous. They seem to inform me and let me know that certain things that they might check could cause problems in the air conditioning units because it was older. They gave me the option of whether or not to do that. I was really impressed because I would think that someone was just out here to get my money. The guy said that he could do it if I wanted him to, but he would not recommend. He also informed that it would cost a lot more money. I would use them again in the future.

We needed to completely replace our existing A/C & heating system and researched several companies for the best equipment and associated financing options. Jon Wayne was beyond a doubt the best choice. The sales rep, Kevin D., came to our house, conducted a thorough assessment of our existing unit and existing attic insulation, and explained in great detail which unit would be best for our home. He was courteous, polite, personable, and a true professional. He was able to schedule a delivery date for the next day, and that worked with our schedule. The installation technicians, Shaun and Kevin, arrived at the scheduled time, explained what they needed to do, and were very careful not to damage our landscaping, floors and walls as they removed the existing units and installed the new ones (outside and inside). They were also courteous, respectful, and very professional. We also had them extra insulation blown in to the attic, and the two techs who performed that service were also very professional, and did a great job cleaning up any mess they made. They also did all the paperwork for the CPS rebate. Our overall experience was phenomenal, and we're very happy with the new system.

Our system had multiple problems and kept shutting off after 5minutes of use. Jon Wayne came in and installed a new system. It took them one day to install both outdoor and inside units. They cleaned up wiring and ductwork that was improperly installed by a previous company. They even widened our air returns to improve air flow. Basically, after having Jon Wayne install our new system, the quality work exceeds that of the original installers from when our house was built.

He performed the necessary services but seemed to spend more time making up a list of defects that he could repair. He showed me a detailed page he took time to write up during the hour he was here, listing the defects and how much it would cost to fix them. He had about 5 packages ranging from $3000 down to $800, plus a monthly payment for ongoing service. When I asked him for a copy, he refused to give it to me, nor would he let me copy it. He said it was on my invoice for this visit. Well, it wasn't, not at all. He gave me the feeling that I was getting nothing but a sales job. When I asked about my American Home Warrenty, he said I shouldn't wait until it broke down, but then admitted Jon Wayner was not approved to do work for American Home Warrenty.

I wasn't happy because I felt like he didn't show concern for my situation, like he was doing me a favor by being there. I paid him the $29 for the service call and that was that. If he had his way, he would have had to come back the next day and look for the problem by the hour which he said would cost me a lot of money. He did no more than replace the fuse, which promptly tripped again. He said because it was late there was nothing more he could do unless I was willing to start being charged by the hour.
Description of Work: Our a/c unit had no power. I called Jon Wayne because they had the least expensive service call and I liked their commercials. The serviceman who came to my house, was not friendly and did not make an effort to find the problem. He said it "could be anything" and in order to find out why the fuse kept tripping would probably take a long time and would end up costing me more than a whole new a/c unit would cost. Then he just stood there and I didn't know what to say. I just felt like he was trying to get out of having to do any work or he just wanted to sell me something I may not have needed. When I did ask about how much a new a/c unit would cost he said I was looking at at least $10,000. I thanked him and said I would be in touch. I called another company who fixed the problem. Turns out, it was easily fixed, there was just a loose wire. However, upon opening the original a/c unit we discovered it was covered in mold. So, I did decide to buy a new unit and It was a lot less than $10,000! Had the Jon Wayne person taken the time to go over my options with more care and concern, it might have been his sale. Hopefully, that is not the standard service one can expect from Jon Wayne, because they seem so nice on TV!

The installion went very well and the system works wonderfully.
Description of Work: I saw an advertizement in the paper from Jon Wayne about heating and cooling system replacement and rebates available. I called and set up an appointment for an estimate. Johnny Johnson came to do the estimate. He was professional, polite and knowledgable. He explained all aspects of the work to be done and the estimated costs. I agreed to have the work done and set up a date. The crew arrived on time and Jerimy was also very polite and professional, as were all members of the crew. Part of the work was to add insulation to the attic. We had many boxes stored up there and removing them would have taken us much work and time. Johnny arranged to have the instillation crew remove the boxes and store them in an area of our choosing. It was extremely helpful and much appreciated. The overall job took about 6 hours and when they were done, the area was clean and and any and all questions were answered. Jerimy explained all of the paperwork necessary to recieve the state and federal rebates and made sure all of the paperwork was completed correctly. Overall we are extremely pleased with the work and would use this company in the future and recommend them to anyone who needs this type of work done.

We waited ALL day Monday for the other tech to bring the special ordered part, they called us at 545pm to let us know they were not going to show up, and that it would be first thing Tuesday. Tech shows up, puts the part on, then proceeds to tell us that we still will not have a working unit because our compressor is bad. Why didn't the first repairman claim this on Saturday?? So they kept our 440.00 for the repair that didn't fix the unit, and now they want to sell us a unit for 15000.00 to get maximum efficiency rating. But they will give us our 440.00 back if we buy their new unit. Needless to say we are disappointed at the very least and are out of alot of money and still have the problem. paid them 360.00 for warranty on units they say need to be replaced. Why buy a warranty on such a unit?? , They called us back to say if we would spend $18,000.00 they would finance us and replace both units in the house, but the job had to be done immediately. Very high pressure to say the least. We will be shopping around for a more reputable company.
Description of Work: we have 2 units. Techs diagnosed the first unit as having a burnt out control and a leaking fan motor. Cost to repair 660.00 but it was not explained to me that i was being charged 180.00 for a warranty that really is optional and not necessary. Second unit was diagnosed to have a bad defrost control switch and they would have to come back to repair as the part needed was not on the truck. Cost on this 440.00 again with their optional warranty.

They were fast, accurate, and very polite. They were very quick to repair a hole in the ceiling. It was a little expensive, but looks like new.
Description of Work: Installed new heating and air conditioning system, installed extensive new ducting, and took system from under the house to the attic.
