Mr Hill was completely honest and said he did not do that type of work since he focused on deck building and subcontracted the sanding and sealing part out.  Instead of just taking the job and passing a mark-up, he recommended me to other sources that would save me money on my project.  If you are looking for honesty in a deck builder, I would recommend Coventry.

excellent service and great craftsmanship. We called early in the week and got an appointment.  Told what we were looking, so when we meet, had some ideas already in mind.  Looked at the concrete pad, and then sent a couple of ideas to our email for us to look at , along with the estimate.  We accepted the bid and was told it would be about 1-2 weeks before the job could be started.  That was fine with us.  On Thursday night of the same week , we accepted the bid, we got a call that they would be starting on the next day, Friday.  We were really excited.   Came home that evening to a completed pergola.  It was gorgeous.  We had a follow up on Tuesday to ensure that everything was to our satisfaction, which it was.  Great company to work with, and very personable.  Not a single problem, and they cleaned up the site.  Could not have been happier with the whole experience!

Hands-down, my most positive home improvement contractor experience in nearly 20 years of owning multiple homes. The experience started with a prompt response to a phone message I left with Mr. Bob Hill. We arranged a meeting at the house and he arrived promptly with numerous ideas on how to get the most deck for our budget--my wife and I were very comforted with his approach (he found ways to bring the cost down rather than push us with up-sales). He helped us develop a unique deck plan that suited our house, yard, and budget. He was upfront that they weren't the cheapest builders out there (nor the most expensive) but that his company prides itself in craftsmanship and value. Words cannot express how pleased my wife and I are with the quality of workmanship their builder delivered to us. Mr. Gary Short explained the entire process every step of the way. I personally observed the progress of the project and witnessed nothing short of complete professionalism and respect for the high expectations of the customer. The cost was for the project, not per hour, yet Gary was very meticulous in his measurements, leveling, joints, and fasteners. The payments were broken down by phases of the project with the final payment due once the project was complete and we were 100% satisfied--it was a very fair process for both the builder and customer. I will recommend Covenant Builders to family, friends, strangers, anyone and everyone--I will hire them for any of our future building projects. It's lovely. They cleaned up. They were just really great. It's sturdy and attractive. I have received a lot of compliments on it. The price was reasonable.

Project started with an extremely patient contractor because I wanted to ensure I was having quality worked done at a fair and reasonable price. After we settled on the price the work was started on schedule. There was some sub-contracting involved which initially I was extremely happy with. Everything went as planned until we neared the end of the project. The contractor did not complete some of the work as planned. When I pointed this out to Bill he handled the issue immediately and the contractor advised he would remedy the issue. The contractor never showed to remedy the issue and when I contacted Bill again, he expressed his sincere concern over the issue and came out himself to finish the work. He even went so far as to deduct 10% from the amount total. Overall I am extremely happy with the project and the way things were handled. I just didn't care for the delays. I would use this company again in a New York minute. One thing I really did find key was I was never asked for a dime before the work was completed. I have encountered the "pre-pay" option before and the outcome was not good. To me this shows competency and confidence in your craftsmanship and that you stand behind your work. If you are considering this company do not hesitate!

Very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, easy to work with, and did excellent work. Bob Hill, former builder, was very aware of the city codes and how they limited our design as he drew up deck plans for our small yard. Interviewed him and another deck company, and Bob was much more knowledgeable, had better ideas for layout given our restrictions, and sent us a copy of the deck plans, measurements, and costs. Also, drew up plans for a very strong swim spa raised deck that needed to support 1200 lbs. plus. Gary did the actual building, used high quality materials, did beautiful work, and was hard-working and dependable. Took many measures to insure that the spa deck was going to be able to support all the weight. Screwed in all the wood on both decks (vs. nails) and went above the standard to make the decks safe and beautiful. Definitely a skilled craftsman vs. someone who throws up a deck as fast and cheaply as possible. We are very pleased with their work and, even though they cost a little more, would recommend them highly. It's true that 'you get what you pay for'.

We were extremely pleased with our experience with Covenant. We had several companies look at our back patio and provide recommendations on how best to resurface/cover/beautify the area. Bob Hill (co-owner of Covenant) evaluated our area, and suggested an incremental approach that suited our budget and lifestyle. He was patient, knowledgeable, and very thorough. We have recommended Covenant to several neighbors, and will definitely work with them again in the future.

We had just been through a terrible experience with another construction project at our house and were distraught over the loss of money and being taken advantage of. After that mess friends told us we should have used Angie’s List to find a reputable builder. So when we decided to have a patio built we went straight to Angie’s List. We interviewed builders, but some were pushy and didn’t come up with ideas we were interested in. Then we found Covenant Building Services and Bob, we knew immediately we had found the builder we should have had from the beginning. He was kind and patient and came up with grate ideas we loved for our beautiful new patio. He knew exactly how our patio needed to be built and what problems he had to work through to get the results we wanted. Bob bent over backwards to make sure our patio construction went smoothly and professionally. He was there every step of the way making sure we got the results we were promised. Our building experience was fun and exciting, I felt like I went through empty nest when the construction was over and every one was gone. Bob even came back on his own time to finish a small job that wasn’t done just the way he wanted, then helped us find someone to repair the construction catastrophe in our attic room. I would recommend and have recommended Covenant Building Services to anyone considering a construction project. They were professional, prompt, and there at the drop of a hat to solve any problems that came up during the building process. I felt like we made some good friends and hope to keep in contact in the future.

They have been extremely responsive. They have gone above and beyond to make us happy about the project. It has been excellent craftsmanship and very well constructed. They have always been very available and punctual. I have nothing but the highest rating for them.

Covenant did an excellent job from start to finish. We dealt with Bob Hill and he was great to work with. Bob kept us informed as the work was being done. Work was done as scheduled and the result was great. We had a few minor issues with the completed work and all were addressed quickly and to our satisfaction. We would definitely use Covenant again.

Working with Covenant was a true pleasure. From start to finish, Bill and his crew were very polite, worked hard, showed up when they said they would and kept us informed of problems and progress. They answered all our questions and gave us the patio cover we wanted. The job started a day late because the city had not issued the building permit and Covenant would not start work without it. As soon as they had the permit, we were given our copy and work began. There was never any doubt that a permit was acquired. I feel that Covenant is a company of honesty and integrity and I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.

It went well at first and after 3 meetings decided not to use this company. Would not recommend their services from what I experienced

(05/14/2010) Our outdoor kitchen caught on fire, so we had to have it removed and reworked. We contacted a few companies and decided to use Bob at Covenant Decks. He seemed very nice and knowledgeable. The work was slow and often irritating. The plumber that they subcontracted with was terrible. The person (Shelly) that put the stain on the concrete was absolutely unacceptable. We have now been waiting eight months for her to come back out and restain our counters due to stain peeling off the concrete. We thought that stain was just that. Stain. Not something that would peel off. UPDATE (06/07/2010) They are still working to resolve our issues, but have been VERY PROMPT in fixing the mistakes that the stain woman did last year. We still do not recommend using the woman that did the stain work. Make sure that you ask before you let them stain your counter top! RE UPDATE (08/31/10) They have now completed everything. I still do not recommend using Shelly Hill for any type of stain work.

Their prices were high. We're just shopping around and we want to find someone who can do it for $7,000. We didn't have a bad experience with them, but it just came down to price.

It went pretty well.

I did not end up going with them. They did a great job on the estimate. They were very professional. They really took the time to listen to what I was looking for. They presented their ideas in a very clear and concise manner. Overall, I was very pleased with my interaction with them. I chose to actually postpone some of the work and do a little bit myself due to some financial constraints, but I thought that their estimate was pretty fair.

Without a doubt, this has been the most positive contracting experience I've gone through. Bill's team of guys were so great to work with. All aspects of the work were discussed up front. They took great care in setting up in the back yard so not to damage the landscaping. All work was done in a timely and professional manner. In the end, the project simply looks amazing and I couldn't be happier. Absolutely exceeded my expectations. Project took about 2.5 weeks to complete, but that was primarily due to the weather. We received constant emails from Bill as to the progress of the project and what they planned on doing next. There was never a time when I wondered "what is going on??" The excellent communication and feedback during the project was something I really enjoyed. We really felt like Bill and his team did an outstanding job.

The putting green is perfection. The composite was cut and installed with great skill and precision. The stain on the concrete counter tops for the kitchen is lovely. The overall kitchen and deck design is attractive and functional. This is a talented, polite, and honest group of hard-working people. The B for "Responsiveness" is because a few minor glitches were left from sub-contractors. It took a while for resolution, but all is correct as of today. My only concern is waiting to see if the composite deck color will actually fade from orange to tan as the manufacturer claims. The product is guaranteed, so I am hopeful of a favorable color result over time.

Bill Johnson was extremely accommodating, allowing us to review many options and other builders before making our decision. There was no pressure to rush our decision or even contract with his company. He only required a small deposit to develop more detailed plans to accurately cost the materials?very reasonable. We reviewed samples of their work at their showroom and other residences and eventually chose Covenant. We never regretted the decision. They began work on schedule and stayed on task until completion (even working on a rare rainy day in San Antonio). But the best part of our contract with Covenant was the workmanship. In 33 years as homeowners, we?ve found very few true craftsmen to work on our residences?the Covenant crew was one of those rare exceptions. It was refreshing to trust the contractor to not only do the job right, but even better than we had envisioned. They have our full trust and confidence and we have a beautiful deck.

Bob and Bill were very responsive. They visited the site before the estimate, again to modify the plans, and usually on a daily basis when the work was under way. The crew members were experienced and professional. They always responded to my questions and concerns, making slight modificatiions when I requested. They worked full days and finished the project on schedule. When I had concerns about the color of the finished counter top, after paying the final bill, they responded quickly and effectively to remedy the situation. It was a pleasure working with this team.

Our experience with them has been positive. They are very nice people and were attentive and helpful. They have come out several times to meet, go over some things and take some measurements, and we have also gone to their place of business a couple of times.

Working with Bill Johnson and Bob Hill at Covenant was an enjoyable experience. In our meetings, they explained several options for our projects and offered many helpful suggestions to improve the product. Once the work commenced, their crew was polite, efficient, on-time and cleaned up every night. They used quality product and did excellent work. The project was completed within the promised timeframe without any surprises. Both Bill and Bob closely monitored the work and assured it was done to their high standards and expectations. We were delighted with the finished product. These guys are good!
