Due to all the rain San Antonio was having, the appointment had to be rescheduled a few times. The tech that was sent out flushed the line on the inside portion of the house. He did not check the outside unit of the house. When I mentioned that it was making a noise, he assumed something was loose but did not investigate further.
On June 30, our AC quit working in the house. Did not know if it is bad timing or if it could have been avoided by a more thorough investigation.
Based on their A rating with Angie?s list I called a
Textperts this past January 26th, 2015 to begin repairs on my 2nd HVAC
unit which was not cooling. Text perts sent a technician promptly who performed various tests and ultimately suggested
we had a Freon leak but that a formal leak test would need to be performed as
he could not localize it to either the pump or the unit. He also sold me a maintenance package in
order to get a free Freon allotment when my system was ultimately recharged
$210. This last part seemed dubious but I?ve come to find the sale of these programs at first blush is common.
A leak test is performed (cost $450) and
the technician confirms that the copper pipes that are attached to my system
are leaking and will require replacement at an estimated cost of $2200. I then asked where the leak was exactly and he
said he didn?t know where the leak was and that they do not look for leaks
unless they are readily visible and admitted the cost would be basically labor
alone if said leak was found and repaired.
I found the automatic replacement of pipes a ridiculous practice but
thanked him and told him I would climb through my attic and find the leak
myself and then call him back when I?d found it, which he accepted.
Once I made the time to inspect every aspect of the piping (removed all insulation) and cut into a 10?
sheet rock garage wall to investigat it was clear there was no leak (estimated 4-5 hours of my labor.)
I called our technician back and was eventually scheduled for a repeat
leak test which I was warned would be another $450. During the repeat leak test the technician
notes that a leak is actually visible at the HVAC valve (at the pump) and that
my pipes are not to blame. He waves the
cost of the 2nd leak test charges me $35 for the call and states a
part must be ordered and it could take a while. I explain to him then that I expect him or
someone from their service to cover my completely functional pipes back up and
repair my sheet rock which he acknowledges I?m likely due but he will need to
?talk to someone about that.?
Several months later (4/28/2015 ...I'm pretty sure they forgot about me as the valve was in when I called to check so many weeks later) a different technician returns to replace the hvac valve and charge
the system at a cost of $1257. When I ask this technician who will recover my pipes and fix my sheetrock he basically
says he doesn?t know and that all he knows is it won?t be him. So I got to spend another 4-5 hours and money
out of my own pocket to purchase more foam insulation and cover my own pipes which is quite necesaary to prevent moisture accumulation in moisture sensitive walls.
My A/C works fine and everyone at Tex perts I dealt with were friendly and courteous but I was left high and
dry by these guys plain and simple? What irritates me even more is that I SAVED
them money?sure they waived the second leak test at $450 but there never should
have been a leak test performed to begin with let alone two of them given a
leak was ultimately visible within the pump/pump valve.
Had they replaced my pipes at a cost to me they would have certainly had
to comp the subsequent $1257 once it had been realized the new pipes didn?t fix
the problem. I asked the second
technician to bring this up with management and that I should at least be
compensated for sheetrock repairs and all those wonderful moments crawling
through my attic to some degree and I have not heard from them ?.that was over 6
weeks ago.
Our visit was a little outside the time window but we did get a courtesy call from them to let us know he was running late. He really didn't show up too much later after the call. He explained what he was going to do for the visit. He cleaned out drain out and checked over the system. Our A/C was down approx. two pounds of 410a. One pound was covered under the checkup so we ended up paying 90.00 on top of that which was reasonable. George was very descriptive and easy to ask questions. The visit was less than an hour and our A/C is working perfect. Totally solved the issue of taking all night to get us down to temp. We couldn't be happier with the service. I felt George was very honest.
