I received several quotes from certified arborists to remove my arizona ash tree and do stump grinding, as well as remove a hackberry that had grown into my chain link fence on my property line, but the owner of A Cut Above impressed me with his knowledge, passion for the craft and commitment to doing things in such a way that preserved the integrity of my soil. He was careful to provide a copy of his insurance and inform me as a homeowner about how this protects me. His quote was reasonable, and he was able to schedule the work for a day that was convenient for me.

He arrived on time (even a little early)with a helper and wearing all of the right safety gear (always a good sign). When I advised him that the city just happened to have a brush pickup scheduled for my neighborhood the following week and asked if he could leave the debris for the city, he hesitated, and explained that it was not typical of an arborists' professional conduct- he really wanted to haul the brush away, but I insisted it stay and negotiated a discount for it. I was impressed that he was committed to removing it (he offered to still do so in 2 weeks if the city doesn't pick any of it up for any reason) even when given the easy road out.

He meticulously took down my tree branch by branch, and he took his time. He was working near power lines, and was very aware at all times on the job. The helper was constantly cleaning up any debris while the main guy was in the tree.

They also cut down a 5 year old hackberry that had grown into my chain link fence. This tree intertwined with my neighbors main power line. I was worried that they might cut my neighbors power supply, but my fears were quickly dissolved as he took down each limb with the utmost care, and not once interfered with the line.

The next day they came back with a stump grinder and took their time again, and when they finished they cleaned up all of the shavings in my yard and left the mulch from the stump grinding in the place of the big tree at my request. Bonus points- they were careful to lock my gate each time they were done, since they knew I had dogs that would run if they got out.

I am very happy with the service and even more impressed by the knowledge and dedication they showed to their trade- they are not a fly-by-night operation and truly care about the health of trees.
