Mid-July through August in San Antonio and South Texas can be brutally hot, and it was and still is in 2020. On a 105 degree Wednesday in mid-July, our air conditioning went out. Not good. With the pandemic, the heat and our age (over 70), we needed help quickly. After a very bad experience with a different contractor, we called 1st Choice Heating & Air Conditioning. They reacted to our situation the next day and scheduled a crew for a full replacement system to be installed on Friday morning. They're pricing was fair (and less that the other contractor), and they did not try to take advantage of us for the expedited service. We found 1st Choice to be highly professional, meticulous in the installation and very customer centric -- very straight forward. They've called several times afterward to make sure the system was functioning properly and that my wife and I are happy. Very refreshing in today's business environment. Can not stress enough how happy I am with their services. Fast, efficient and clean installation. I was quoted almost three times as much by two of the "big" companies. I spoke with 1st choice and they gave me a fair and accurate price estimate. They installed a premium product that I would have had to pay an "upgrade" for with the other guys. They also replaced the air boxes with the ducts. The entire staff was very engaged with the job. The office was great and handled the transaction, exactly like they said they would, no calling back for paperwork or other issues. The Technician gave an accurate accounting of what was needed and how long it would take. No hidden costs or fees, very honest and up front with the whole job. After completion the techs stayed for a little while to make sure all the vents were blowing properly and that the ac was working as it should. Every morning we would have to wipe down our stove because of a light layer of dust. Not a spec in over two weeks, huge difference in amount of dust in our house. I have 10 ducts and it cost me about $250 a duct. I was quoted $700 a duct from the other companies for a lesser rated product.

Initially a guy came out, inspected the furnace and said the problem was due to the igniter not working, so he took the igniter and said they would have to order a new one and come back out to install it. 3-4 weeks pass by and I never heard back from them so I called them and they informed me that the technician that came out and said he'd order to part no longer works for them and that they have no record of what happened at my appointment and no record of a part being ordered. They went ahead and ordered the part for me and I waited several more weeks for it to come in. When they came back out, they took a look and realized that it wasn't the igniter that was causing the issue, it was the computer board. They had to order that part and I had to wait a few more weeks after that. I went 2 and a half months with no heat during all of this. The worst thing about this experience was that this is a new construction and they were the original installers of the unit so that shows that the unit wasn't properly checked in the first place. Once I had contacted them and we got on the same page, they were extremely communicative with me about everything, but the way it was handled initially was just unacceptable.

Negotiation begin in August 2013 and to this date, 09.16.2014, the job is still not completed. This company is only 1st Choice if one chooses to be delayed, given a misrepresentation of work to be done, and provided with non responsiveness from the owners. One gentleman has been tops in customer service, but he has his hands tied by his boss We will meet with the AC supplier and a First Choice rep to try to resolve the stand still that we have become accustomed to experiencing. An update will be provided after that meeting.

This project was finally completed in February 2015. We were glad to have this job finished. However, we would never use this company again. We wanted an extended warranty & could not get a quote to purchase that.

The entire event was a sad chapter in our home building experience.

My AC had gone out in my newly built home on a Friday night. After checking all I could think of (and calling a friend) I gave up for the night. The next morning I checked my warranty checklist from the builder and saw that 1st Choice was the listed contact. I called them at 9AM, but of course their office is closed on Saturday - however their answering service had an extension for the emergency on-call person, so I left a message. Around 10AM the on-call person called back and I explained the issue. He said he'd be out in about an hr, and he called to confirm as soon as he was on the way. In my case the attic unit was running but the outside unit was not, but he did a thorough inspection of both units and eventually found the problem with the outside unit. He made a temporary fix for the outside unit and said the main office would call me in a couple of days to schedule a time to replace the faulty part so that it doesn't happen again. (He understood right away that everything was under warranty still so there was no awkward price discussions.) The technician was friendly and very knowledgeable, he even took the time to explain a few curious questions I had about the unit, how it worked.

I contacted 1st Choice Air Conditioning and Heating Services for warranty work on the ducting for the air conditioner of my new home.  I made an appointment for some time the next morning and the technicians were to call before arriving.  There seemed to be a misunderstanding and I called to ask about the status of the appointment when there was no call by 11:30AM.  The Dispatcher was busy and couldn?t take my call but early that afternoon the air conditioner service techs, Julian and Anthony arrived.  They were cordial and professional and after I showed them the sagging and kinked air conditioner return duct in the attic, they went right to work.
Their work went beyond my expectations.  They added additional supports and straightened the air return duct.  They also removed the kink in the duct that prevented efficient operation of the system.  When they were done, they invited me to inspect their work and stated that they weren't done until I was happy with the quality of the repair.  They completed the paperwork and instead of rushing off, they took the time to explain what other warranty services were covered and the availability of 1st Choice Air Conditioning and Heating Services for emergency work.
I appreciated Julian?s and Anthony?s professionalism and dedication to doing the best work possible.  Despite the scheduling misunderstanding, I would not hesitate to recommend or call on 1st Choice Air Conditioning and Heating Services.
