My A/C was leaking out the plenum. A senior AirCo technician inspected it, said the unit wasn't installed correctly, blowing water into the plenum and recommended reinstalling the entire system for $2,400. I had a follow up call with his boss who agreed with this assesment. We got a second opinion. This other company's technician opened up the plenum to find that the splash guard had been disconnected and the water was splashing onto the plenum instead of the splash guard. He also found that our drain was clogged. This cost $217. I'm glad I got a second opinion and I'm done with AirCo.

"We still stand behing our recomendation to have the unit correctly installed. The fact that that part was completly missing along with the other items your not mentioning like the unit being found out of level and a rusted secondary pan was more than enough reason for us to want to do the job rite. The furnace to coil alignment was also found to be incorrect since the unit is horizontal left airflow. The furnace should raised to match the height of the top of the coil or a transition between the two constructed. Since we didn't instal this unit we had no idea how far the problems went. That part would have been installed upon the proper re-instalation of the unit along with many other items. Our price was an "up to" price. I would like to repsectivly disagree that we would recieve an F for responding promptly but wanting to provide a more comprehensive solution. The other company did the bair minimum to get the unit going which is against the culture here at AiRCO. We appreciate your feed back and if you decide to correct the other shortcomings noted for your instalation we would be happy to discuss a final price to do so."

6/1/17: I login to Angie's and purchase a $79 HVAC inspection. I gave my contact information and service appointment preference of 6/2/17, 6/3/17, or 6/5/17. 6/2/17: No contact from Airco. 6/3/17: No contact from Airco. 6/4/17: No contact from Airco. 6/5/17: No contact from Airco. 6/6/17: No contact from Airco. 6/7/17: No contact from Airco. 6/8/17: No contact from Airco. 6/9/17: No contact from Airco. 6/10/17: No contact from Airco. 6/11/17: No contact from Airco. 6/12/17: I called Airco and was pleasantly surprised that they had an opening the next day at 8:30AM. I accepted it. I scheduled my workday around this appointment. 6/13/17: 8:30AM. Airco doesn't show up. At 8:40AM, I called Airco. Their office is scheduled to open at 8AM, but their Answering Service picked up. I asked whether they would be able to be at my house soon, and she said all she could do was relay my message to Airco. I call again at 10AM. Automatically forwarded to their Answering Service again. They tell me they'll urgently give Airco my message. At 10:30AM, I get a call from Airco saying they were confused and thought they already completed the service. I assured them they had not. They said they would be at my house around 12-12:30PM. Airco didn't show up. I called again at 3:45, and got their Answering Service again. Left another message. 6/14/17: 10:20AM. Called Airco and got the Answering Service again. Left my 4th message asking Airco to call me back. 11:00AM, found Wes Stearn's (Owner?) number on an Angie's List review. Called and left v-mail for him. At 11:15AM, Wes and Laura (dispatcher) called at roughly the same time and left v-mails for me. I called Laura back, and she scheduled me same day at approx. 12:40PM with Bob. At 1:10PM, I missed a call from Bob asking if he could come over. At 1:45PM, Laura from Airco calls and asks if Bob can still come over. I said "yes." Bob comes around 2:45, and an hour later he's finished. I was a bit surprised to find out that the $79 I paid through Angie's list only applies to 1 A/C unit. My house has 2 A/C units, so I needed to pay another $79. (My fault. I should have thought of that.) Many low-lights, but the 2 highlights were a) how quickly Wes Stearns got things back on track and b) Bob the service guy seemed nice and competent.

I'm not sure how you purchased that deal and would like to speak with you further. I'm logged into our business account and it doesn't show that I have any offers rite now. I tried to suspend that service last year when I realized they gave homeowners the ability to request dates. I had several customers think that there selected time would be confirmed but those availabilities aren't connected with our actual scheduling software. As far as the call center issues, we recently became privately owned by a handful of the employees. For the past several years we were owned by a large company that had a call center operating 24/7. Now that we are locally owned I've had to bring on the assistance of a call center vendor during peak call times. My goal was to keep people from having to here the phone ring forever or hitting voice mail boxes. Implementing this was very challenging to say the least. You called in during the second week we brought them on. So to summarize, we had no idea you made the request during all the days you noted no response. You called our office and got misplaced the one day and then we came out. Sorry you got caught up on that. If I can do anything to help you reconsider you rating please let me know. You can see by our A rating overall that what you experienced was truly a one off scenario. We are running 40-60 service calls a day this time of year. If your experience was typical we wouldn't have the reviews we do and would probably be out of business. I do appreciate you reaching out to us. Wes Stearns"

My overall experience would have been A up until this year and it is probably a B now. I would use them in the future if I could negotiate the price. They should be honest with the price.

I like them a lot. I have been using them for over 10 years and they have kept my systems very much in good repair so I have incurred minimal incremental expense over the years.  They are very nice gentlemen. They know what they are doing. They are reliable and dependable and they stand by their work.  I would use them again from a maintenance standpoint, but if I was installing a new system, I want to make sure that I would get the best unit at the best price so I would get multiple bids.

The salesman was informative and put no pressure on us. We actually had the same person give us a quote the year before and decided to wait a year and had no pressure in-between. The price was reasonable and the installation was set up immediately. The crew was fast and professional and did an excellent job. My only complaint is that it took a while to finish the paperwork for the financing to come through and it was hard to get in touch with the right person at that point. Other than that, it went very smoothly.

That was during the long stretch of hundred plus degrees in Austin for over a month. It was during those days that they replaced everything but they got the job done. They did a good job with it. I know that they use them at work a lot and sort of based on the experience they've had, I went with them. It's A all across the board.

I simply needed another common ground wire for my thermostat.  The extra wire was already in the wall, it just need to be connected to a terminal in the air conditioning unit.  Since this was so simple I asked Airco if they could quote me a lump sum price which they said they could not do without seeing it.  I understood but asked for some reassurance that this could be done for within their standard diagnostic fee which is $88.00.  They transferred me to a technician named Nick who knew exactly what I was needing and said was confident that the diagnostic fee should be sufficient but just to be safe he said it may take an additional 15 minutes of time.  I agreed and another technician came out at the end of the day and quickly made the connection.

His invoice included the Diagnostic Fee of $88, a Trip Charge of $10 and $66 for an additional 0.75 hours of Labor.  The total was $164.

The Trip Charge was never mentioned so I'm convinced that this one of those shady fees (like "shop fees" or "fuel surcharge") that they count on most customers just paying it.  But the thing that really got me was the overstatement of time.  The technician explained that he had to include his travel time (never mentioned by Nick).  I asked him if Nick had spoken with him and he said no and that all of his charges were legitimate.

Normally I would never pay a bill like this until I had spoken to a supervisor but I was late to an appointment so I paid him thinking I could resolve it later.  The next day (Friday) I called and left a message for a supervisor but heard nothing.  I called again on Monday and again my message was not returned.  Now I must refuse to expend anymore energy for a relatively small amount of money which is probably what they are counting on.  So I surrender Airco, you win this battle.

Update:  Manager contacted me quickly upon the original posting of this review.  Apologized for how things had been handled and provided a refund so the adjusted total was the original $88.

My AC stopped working on Sunday the 18th. I called my regular maintenance company, and the soonest they could get out to me was on Tuesday. When the service technician came on Tuesday, he found that the compressor on the outside unit had gone out. The inside unit and furnace was original to the house (approx 1987), so I thought the best choice was to get everything replaced at once. I got a quote from them the next day and then, since this was a major purchase, I asked co-workers who they had used in the past so I could get a second quote. My coworker recommended Airco, so I gave them a call. Stuart came out the next afternoon and looked everything over and came back with a quote for a good system that met our needs. Stuart was very responsive to our questions and answered all of them. One of the main points that led me to choose Airco was the different payment options they had, so I could chose the one that worked the best for me. We decided to use them, and I called Stuart back. He was able to get me scheduled for the very next day, which was fantastic as I had now been without AC for several days. The installation team was great. They worked around all of the obstacles in the yard as well as our three dogs who were really interested in "helping". They took the time to go over everything with us, and also were very helpful in answering our questions. They were very professional, and did a great job cleaning everything up after they were finished. One of the nice touches was they installed a pouch on the door to the inside unit for all of the manuals to go in. 
The new system is running great and the airflow has improved. I'm also really excited for the winter to come so I can use the new furnace.

I was calling around all afternoon to find a company to do this work.  The plumbers said HVAC could help me.  Other HVAC companies told me to call kitchen venting cleaners.  I finally was lucky to talk to Wes at Airco.  He explained that capping the downdraft vent pipe was a very easy job that would be cheaper for me to do myself.  I appreciated his honesty rather than getting the usual run around.  I will definitely call them again for any future needs.

I had to switch out an air conditioning unit and I knew it ahead of time so I planned it for the winter. They were very expedient, very good service, and better priced than some of the others. I went directly to them because I knew people that have used them. What happened was they put in the air conditioning unit and less than a week later when we got our first warm days here, I had to turn on the air conditioning, and I have a second unit for the upstairs and it blew. They got that air conditioning unit in. They came at night. Luckily they blew when they were there because we just had a fire in the attic. It wasn't cooling so I had them come. It blew on a Thursday night and we were leaving on Saturday morning. We were going out of town for a wedding. They got that second unit in on Friday and honored it as if I had bargained for 2 together. It was excellent service. I was really pleased with him. New air conditioners are very pricey. I paid between $11,000 and $12,000. I am going on to their maintenance because there's a filtering system.
