"Thanks for the great review! We appreciate it!"
"Thanks for your kind words [Member Name Removed]! We appreciate your business!"
"We have no idea what this is about. We have never received a negative call from Mr. [Member Name Removed] and he posted the following on our Google reviews page back in August...Phil is awesome I would recommend him and his company, thank you Advantage Roofing Company. This is the second job we have done for this customer. We're floored by this review."
Phil Goodwin was my sales/ project manager and was very professional. Always answered his phone
very quick to respond. I would highly recommend this company for any roofing projects.
Phil at Advantage Roofing is one of the most courteous, respectful and service oriented people that I have ever met.
He is one of the best and a great resource!!!
Advantage Roofing and Phil Goodwin are very fair, up front and play no games!!!
If you are looking for a Roofer.........these are the guys you want.
They have done 9 roofs for me and have 3 on the books to get done. ( I am a Realtor).
Once we got the insurance check, Phil got the roof scheduled within 1 week and the crew he brought got the job done in a day and a half. They also worked around my satillite dish which is mounted to the roof with no issues. They properly cleaned up afterwards. The gutters were replaced by a 3rd party that Advantage hired and they did a great job as well. I even had some sections of the house that did not have gutters previously and he added sections of gutters to that for a very minor cost.
Overall, I would recommend this roofing company highly and Phil Goodwin who was our representative. I picked them because of their professionalism and they were highly rated on Angie's List and they were first class.
He is easy to deal with, communicates well, and provides a complete service with no
shortcuts. He provides you with many options you may not be aware of. In my case
he showed me ways to better cool the attic so we changed up the venting products.
Advantage comes in when they say they will, does the job, and leaves with no trace
left behind. I highly recommend them.
Phil Goodwin started calling my wife around noon stating that he needed to be paid. The roof was not yet finished nor had we inspected it. He upset my wife to the point of tears. She asked her Dad to meet her at the house at 5:00 so she would not have to speak to Phil by herself. I work about 55 miles from home and would not be able to get there until after 6:30.
When my father and law met my wife at 5:00 the roof was still not finished. Phil wanted his money. My wife inspected the house and discovered work that had not been completed that was contracted for. Some of which would require tearing parts of the roof off. Phil told her that after we paid they would complete the work.
When I got home I immediately saw that the roof was two different colors and that it looked like a jigsaw puzzle. Phil came back out at this point and agreed. He also apologized for behaving poorly and said the owner Jay Welling was putting a lot of pressure on him because they just had collection issues on a $40,000 roof. He stated they would file a claim with the manufacturer who would pay to replace the roof. He wanted us to pay him .
At this point I called Jay Welling, the owner. It was a very unpleasant experience. He was belligerent and demanded payment. I told him that I was not paying until my roof was complete and I was satisfied as per the words of his representative. He stated he did not care what Phil said as the contract state we were to pay when the work was completed. My response was the work was still not completed.
The conversation did not end well. He later called me back stating that Phil had showed him picture and that indeed the house looked bad. He said he would wait until the manufacturer agreed to replace the roof before we had to pay him. I told him I would not pay until my roof was complete and we were satisfied.
The manufacturer did not agree to replace the roof but asked us to wait 90 days. During the 90 day period we discovered holes had been chopped through our roof in a different section of the attic. I then ordered a roofing inspection. The roofing inspecter told me that I was probally better off with the hail damaged roof then I was with the new roof and that there were numerous issues. I have had additional reports confirming this. They also damaged my stucco.
Jay Welling called me as the end of the 90 day period was approaching and he wanted to come by with the manufacturers representative for the inspection and to pick up his check. I told him that before the inspection moved forward we need to discuss the damage his company had done to my home as well as the shoddy work they performed. He refused to talk about it or even view the report I had received. He stated that he know his people do quality work and he stands by them. I asked if he was going to stand by the work without even viewing my pictures and report. He said yes and once again demanded his money. I told him good luck and the conversation devolved from there.
Since that time Phil Goodwin has left disparaging emails on my father-in law's voice mail as well as telling his neighbors that they were going to collect from me through a law suit. In addition Jay welling has stated that I probably spent the money and that is why I refused to pay as well as sending threatening letters about having already filed a lean on my home and getting the Rockwall County Sheriff involved for theft of services. My wife is traumatized thinking she is going to be arrested because of the unprofessional and deceptive trade practices of these men and this company. In addition I have since found out that they faxed an invoice to the insurance company stating that all work was done and to release the funds. While I am not an attorney, I think that insurance companies would take offense to having untrue documents being faxed to them in order to have funds released.
"First of all, to all of our AngiesList friends...Please take a look at ALL of our reviews before you judge us by a customer that has owed us over $15,000 for over 8 months. He hasn't paid us a dime and won't allow us to rectify his “complaints”. All of this over a small punch list that he has. We have made numerous attempts to resolve any matter he has. He filed, virtually, the same complaint with the BBB of Dallas and they offered him FREE arbitration to resolve his issues with NO response from [member name removed]. The BBB has since closed the complaint due to “Lack of Consumer Response”. After [member name removed] ducked us for months, we had our attorney send [member name removed] a letter stating that we’ve been ready to resolve any issues he has with our roof installation and he needs to contact us asap. He then hired an attorney to send us a threatening letter saying we need to respond by a certain date, etc. Our attorney has been trying to get in touch with [member name removed] “attorney” for over a month now. Our attorney has tried to contact his attorney via email, fax, and phone with NO response. I actually tried to call his attorney today after seeing this review early this morning. I’m still waiting for a response too from his attorney…. Secondly, to [member name removed], we have tried our best to resolve any issues you have had. As an honest roofing company, we don't collect ANY money up front. In your complaint there are a few false statements. You insinuated in your complaint that we were hassling you for the all the money for your roof installation. This is false in that our company was just simply trying to get the first check that you owed until the insurance company sent the depreciation. In your case, we asked for all but $4000.00 of the funds. You have a $500.00 punch list that you’re holding our funds over. $4000.00 would have covered that by a bit. I tried to resolve this matter months ago when the GAF Shingle Manufacture representative wanted to come out. After waiting 90 days for our first funds, I told you that I’d look at your complaints when the GAF rep was coming out that Thursday. You told me that you weren’t going to take off work “Just for us”. I asked you multiple times what would be a good day for us to meet with you and you said “I’ll see you in court” in which I hung up. You then called the GAF Corporation to cancel the final warranty inspection. You also sent a defamatory letter to the GAF Corporation slamming our company. [member name removed], how much damage can you try to do to a company that you haven’t paid a dime for thousands of dollars of service? Unfortunately, you will have to see us in court unless you or your non-responsive attorney allows us to address your issues. There should be an AngiesList for businesses to report on customers like [member name removed]."
I would recomend them to anyone who would like a good job.
recommend them.
Philip inspected all of my properties and indicated which ones had excessive hail damage. The insurance
company agreed with him on each case and replaced the roofs and gutters.
Phillip was easy to deal with, very attentive to any needs, and provided great
customer service. His crews came when expected, worked fast, and cleaned up
like they were never there. After the job Phillip was always available for any
questions. I do not have a single complaint and I would use them again.
stating that we do not pay a dime until the roof was complete and work
was performed to our satisfaction.
Prior to work being finished roofer became belligerent and demanded
payment. When the roofer said the job was finished, we did a quick
inspection. Roof was two different colors, which he claimed was a defect
in the shingles. In addition the whole reason we needed a new roof was
because a large hailstone had punched a softball sized hole through our
roof. You could see daylight. The roofer was supposed to have replaced
the decking. They did not.
We told roofer we were not paying until the decking was replaced and the
shingles were all one color. The roofer demanded payment saying they
would fix after they were paid. When reminded of the verbal
modification, stating that we were not to pay until the roof was
complete and to our satisfaction, we were told the written agreement
overrode the verbal agreement. The roofer said payment was due upon
completion. We replied that the roof was not complete.
After some unpleasant phone calls from the roofer, we called the owner
of the company who was even more belligerent and insisting that he be
paid. After quite a bit of screaming he said they would file a claim
with the manufacturer and we would wrap everything up after the
manufacturer replaced the shingles.
We subsequently had to go up to another part of the attic and were
horrified to see that it looked like they had chopped holes in our roof
with a fire axe rather than use a saw to cut holes to install some new
vents. This was such a horrendous display of workmanship that we decided
to have a roof inspector come out to look at the roof. His comments to
us were that the roof already had plenty of scuff damage and that the
roof already looked in worn condition. He commented that it looked like
there was also damage from dropped tools. He detailed all of this and
more in a report. Now that our eyes were open we also saw that other
work had not been completed.
About this time we began receiving calls again from the roofer despite
the fact that we had told the owner that we never wanted to hear from
him again and that we would only deal with the owner. When we did not
call the roofer back he called my father in law, starting talking about
men of their word and the contract language stating that payment was due
upon completion. I take great offense at this.
I spoke to the owner of the company again today and let him know of my
displeasure of the call. He blew me off and wanted to know when he could
come out with the manufacturer's representative. I told him that before
I agreed to meet with them, I wanted him to comment on the quality of
work done on my home based on the interior photos I took as well as the
report with photos. I told him I wanted to work out these issues before
moving forward. He dismissed me by saying you can check my BBB rating
and Angie's list. I asked him if he was really serious about not wanting
to see documentation of his work. That he was actually standing by the
quality of his work t without viewing it. He said yes. He then stated
that we can take care of it when the manufacturer's rep is out there. I
then told him that unless he could make me comfortable his company was
not setting foot on my roof again. I said if you did such a poor job the
first time how can I expect it to be different the next time, if you
don't even admit there is a problem this time. He said fine I will be
by to pick up my check on Thursday. I told him he was not getting paid
till the roof was complete and to my satisfaction. He replied that he
would get paid one way or another.
It was done in a timely fashion - one day. The next day, they followed up on the results. They were polite and professional.
