Hofer Wood Shutters

Jim was great to work with.  He spent a great deal of time discussing shutters with me at the initial consultation.  His detailed bid came in hours later and after some time spent shopping around for comparison bids, I realized his product and personalized service was far superior.  His production time was shorter than any of the other companies I spoke with and he had them all ready and installed days after I moved in.  The shutters (and blinds) are a beautiful addition to my new home and I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again in the future for any other windows I decide to cover.  I highly recommend Jim and his team.

The shutters are beautiful.  Jim Hofer is great to work with.  He does a wonderful job, is friendly, and is someone I am not nervous to have in my home.  Installation was done by him and his son and it went quickly.  Overall I am very happy and would use his company again.

One of the best things I have ever purchased for this house. Jim guided us through the process and we learned a lot of details about wooden blinds. I have waited more than six months to make sure I feel as good about the job now as I did back in march and I do. If not more so now.
I went to Jim's shop to review the process and see the work first hand. Jim showed us everything from the good to the bad and the mistakes he and other have made. Jim did not push us at all for the job and I will use him again on the new house I am thinking of building.
Jim and his son came out and installed them all in one day he promised a lot and delivered more than promised or than I expected.

Overall, we are very happy with the project, the quality of the shutters and the installation process. 
Jim, the owner, came out, measured windows, provided an estimate.  He was slightly higher than a competitor, but I preferred the look of his product and the way it would install in my double-hung windows.  He required a larger down payment up front than competitors. 
It did take about two weeks longer than expected for them to come in, but we were not in a rush, so it was not an issue.  Jim asks for the color and type of paint you want and paints them before he installs them.  The quality of the finish is very good.  Installation process was very quick, efficient and with no mess.  The end result looks fabulous.
In terms of the lower mark for punctuality, Jim missed the first appointment and did not call.  When I called him, we rescheduled for following day and he was late, but he did show up. The expected date of shutters passed with no communications, so I contacted him and we agreed on installation date.  Installation time was pushed back a few hours, but he did text to let me know. 
Communications were mainly by email and text, which was easy for me. 
Jim was very nice and seems to take pride in his work.  He worked with his son to install the windows.

The provider was very professional.  They arrived on time and performed the job to my satisfaction.  My new shutters look GREAT!

Jim was great! I called to get an estimate over the phone and he offered to come measure my house and provide me an accurate quote the next day. He sent me the estimate the morning after measuring and the pricing is very competitive. I'm waiting for one more quote before I make my decision, but I would recommend Jim without question based on the service I've received so far.

I selected Hofer Wood Interiors on Angie's list because they specialize in the product we wanted, plantation shutters.  We received a quick estimate and outstanding service.  I researched the product and it is a top of the line hardwood plantation shutter with a lifetime warranty.  The look, durability and privacy afforded by shutters is not equaled by blinds.

When Jim came out to give us an estimate, he was on time and very professional.  Through our discussions with him )and because I've had a little experience doing carpentry work myself), we could tell he was very knowledgeable about shutters and carpentry in general.  We knew there were some areas in our home that would make his work a little more challenging. He was able to answer well how to address those issues--it was apparent he had handled similar issues before. 
Not long after his visit, he promptly provided a written estimate.  We considered his estimate as well as that of a couple other well-qualified shutter installers we had come out to our home.  Hofer's price was not cheap.  There are installers who will do the work for much cheaper, but they also provide a inferior product and installation, and we weren't interested in those kinds of installers.  However, among the quality installers we could find, his price was the best.  We were actually surprised by this because we had the impression that his work would be the best in terms of quality.
When installation day came (which was consistent with the day he originally promised at the time he gave the estimate), he and his son arrived on time and were able to install all the shutters fairly quickly.  The paint matched our existing trim work very well.  It's now been a couple days since the installation and the shutters open and shut very cleanly.  The installation looks clean and crisp, as if the shutters had been there all along, installed by the original builder.  We're very pleased with the product and would highly recommend his work. 
I should also note that he was willing to build and install a frame around one of our windows that we did not want shutters on.  We wanted this window to have a frame that would match the frames on all the windows that were getting shutters.  He was willing to do this for free!  We asked for it after he provided his estimate and after we had already paid.

Outstanding.  I ordered plantation shutters for the front of the house.  Jim came out and measured and provided a reasonable estimate.  The shutters are high quality and installation took about one hour.  I am using him for the remainder of the windows in the house.  Highly Recommended.

Arrived at 8:30 on a Saturday morning and was finished by 11:00.  Wasted no time and cleaned up after himself.  Was very carefuly of tracking in dirt or leaves from outside and very careful that he did not bump into the wall with his equipment.  We will be calling again!

Very pleased, overall.  Had a minor miscommunication on the exact expected date of installation but all was accommodated in the end.

This was a really good experience.  I sent e-mails through Angie's list to three different companies.  Hofer responded within a few hours to set up a time to give me an estimate.  He did ask how many windows we were considering doing before hand; at minimum we were doing 12, I don't know if he has a minimum amount before he'll come out.  We scheduled an estimate for a Saturday afternoon; he arrived when he said he would, and didn't seem to mind the barking dog or curious toddler.  We weren't certain how many windows we would do for sure, so asked for an estimate that broke it down window by window.  He said he would give us a discount based on the number of windows we did.  The estimate he provided included a discount for doing all of the windows we talked about, and he said if we decided on a smaller number of windows, he would figure out the discount from there.  We decided to do all of the windows we had measured.  We did not do a high half-moon window in the master bedroom, any of the bathroom windows, or our kitchen window because we plan on redoing our counters in the near future and worried about working around the shutters, and we just plain forgot that our garage has windows that face the street.  When we finally get around to redoing the kitchen and having that shutter made, we'll do the garage windows too.
After we decided to go with Hofer, we had to choose the shade of white for the shutters. The previous owner did not leave paint cans behind, so we brought home all the white paint chips from Home Depot and did our best to pick the one that looked the closest to the existing trim and window frames.  We gave the paint name to them, and just waited for the shutters to be ready.  When they were ready, we arranged installation on a day my husband could be home.  Installation was quick, and they even puttied one of the window ledges that our puppy had chewed up. 
The one area I rated as lower than an A was in responsiveness, and that was because there were a few times where I sent an email with a few questions, and the answering email would respond to only 1. 
Overall, our experience was very good, and the shutters are awesome.  We will definitely return to Hofer when we are ready to do the kitchen and garage windows.

Overall this was an excellent experience.  My husband has already recommended Jim Hofer to a collegue because we are so pleased.  It is with pleasure that I recommend Mr. Hofer to anyone on Angie's list who wants beautiful plantation shutters in their home.

Overall, I am totally pleased with Hofer Wood Interiors, and Jim is such a pleasant guy it would be almost impossible not to like him.He obviously has a good attitude and likes people.He makes it obvious that he is there to do a quality job and tell it like it is about the different types of product and so on.As most all his other reviews here on the List reflect, he is a great choice. Plantation shutters are expensive, but I love what I received for my money and they should last the lifetime of the home, as they are solid kiln dried wood.My fiance was against them at first, but when I had them painted white as she asked for and she saw them, she loved them too.The pait job he did is flawless. He is a very good painter; I have not seen one drip. They are set in a fitted frame so that you can open them for cleaning, and being inside, they will never get weathered.I will probably eventually replace most or all of my hard to clean, easy to break flimsy plastic blinds with these plantation shutters.

I contacted Jim via phone and he came on a Saturday to take measurements to prepare the quote. He was very professional and chatted with me at length about the products and the process of getting the shutters ordered and installed.I received the quote the next day and made my decision to go forward. He required a large down payment because the shutters were custom made but I already knew from reading the past reviews. The shutters took approximately 4 weeks to complete. The installation was done by Jim and his son while I was at work. When I came home they were already gone and the shutters looked great. The shutters were painted to match my existing moldings and trim.  I am very happy with the project and the experience.I highly recommend Jim should you want to add plantation shutters to your home.

We needed window treatment and really had no idea who to choose or what product to select.  We searched the internet after looking for quite a while; we decided that we needed another method to distinguish the best company to choose.  I then signed up for Angie’s List and continue the quest to find the best blinds company in the area.  We saw one company that far exceeded everyone else on excellent ratings and that company was Hofer Wood Interior.  Well we called them, they came by to do an estimate and make recommendations.  To sum this up, they are true craftsman in their trade and installed the blinds professionally.  They know what they are doing and our blinds add that touch of elegance to the home.  If you have to install blinds, go no further on your search…select these guys for your home.  You will be very happy with the result.

Plantation shutters were at the top of my list for renovations to our "new to us" 15-year-old home.  We had just had the interior painted and faux finishing touches and wanted wood shutters to finish the look.  I had gotten several quotes, two of which came recommended by Angie's List and decided to go with Mr. Hofer because of his master carpenter skills and that he and his son would be personally installing them.  He does not use a middle-man and applies all the finishes himself.  He was very informative on our options, and we were able to make a comfortable decision as to which shutters were the right ones for us.  We had several paint colors (2) and wood stains (2) he had to work with that were individual to each room and he accommodated every single one.  I must say with all the windows we were having done, I was a little nervous that some would be done incorrectly.  They were not.  You can also count on his services and products to be right on schedule, which is a rarity after I had just dealt with many a contractor/painter.  The products we received were of the highest quality, as was the work that was done.  It was a perfect experience and would highly recommend Mr. Hofer for your job.
