They came by, gave me an appraisal.  I got two others and they were not the cheapest or the highest.  I had heard they did great work from a co-worker, so I went with them.  They showed up in time - took down my gutters, replaced wood and painted exterior.  Two story house approximately 4,000 square feet and they finished it in 2 1/2 days.

Southern Painting did a top-notch job! I called to schedule and they were out to work just two days later. They finished a HUGE job in just 2 days (inside and outside.)  I wish I had taken before and after pictures of the chimney work because it is beyond my expectations. They performed minor texture work before painting, the interior, and they even left me with the matching paint sample for future reference.  I was quoted $1,000 more for the same jobs, and that didn't include materials.  The workers were very diligent and respectful. I just couldn't be any happier - job was performed with great speed, quality, and  price! I will absolutely call them back in a few months for exterior painting.  At that time, I will look nowhere else.

I thought they did a good job.  I called to have something redone and they did that nicely.  I think they are very professional.  I had trouble with scheduling the salesman and the power wash, but it was resolved in the end.  They did everything they said they would and I have no complaints because they did a good job.

We are not interested in getting into a tit-for-tat discussion, but believe the record needs to be corrected.  Southern Painting states that they repeatedly tried to respond to our letter.  That is untrue.  We have caller ID on our phones and know who calls, even if we don't answer a call.  All calls are kept in the ID system until we delete them.  NO ONE from Southern Painting tried to phone us, nor came to our door regarding our complaint, nor did they send us a letter.

Regarding the light fixture screws being put in a vanity -- what vanity?  They put the screws in a top dresser drawer in the bedroom and that's where the contractor was looking for them.  And yes, he had his hands in the dresser drawer.   No doubt about it!  We were particularly concerned about catching him with his hands in the drawer, because that particular drawer had confidential information in it (social security card, etc.).  Our mistake.  We'll never leave items like that in a drawer again, even when the contractor states their crews are bonded.  Yes, they did lose a screw cover for the light fixture.

There was NO detailed walk-through after the job was completed.  The contractors were late getting to their next job and were hurrying to leave our premises.  Two of the four-person crew had already been dispatched to their next job, leaving only the foreman and his helper at our home on the last morning.   An unhurried detailed walk-through would have resulted in our finding the issues we later brought to their attention.

When the tile on the shower frame was broken, the foreman  told us about it.  To his credit.  But later he informed us that his associate, who had gone to the office with our payment, was told by Mr. Wells that "you never, never admit to a customer that you caused a problem."  Honesty?  Who's being honest?    What this tells me is that Southern Painting is more interested in covering their goof-ups than being the upstanding company of integrity that they want to claim.  Sad, really.

As for problems with other contractors, Southern Painting's account is basically true.  We had some issues, which is not unusual in a project of this scope.  All issues with other contractors were resolved to our satisfaction.  Not so with Southern Painting.

As far as unfinished work, the attic access frame still remains unpainted.

As for damage, the ceiling is still damaged.

As for insults about our ability to be a general contractor,  we aren't concerned about this kind of nonsense.

We are so disappointed, because Southern Painting really did do an excellent job for us in 2009.  But they failed on this project and we would have thought they would have tried to resolve the issues with us.

Our big mistake here is that we used Southern Painting, because of their low-cost bid and our previous good experience with them.  We should have selected a paint contractor who had good ratings on Angie's List.

Salesman showed up on time & was very courteous.    Estimate stated job would take 3 days.  Job started a few days later  & finished in two days.  We emphasized that the workers be very careful of our plants, shrubs, etc. & to clean up at the end of each day.

I was not happy with them. Their prices were reasonable. I felt that the prep work could be better. They spray painted over cobb webs or something. They pressure washed everything and two guys came back to paint. I noticed that the pressure washing had not gotten all the corners and cobb webs down. To me, it seems like if they had a dry brush they could have just knocked it down and you have to be able to see that when you are painting. You are looking where you are painting so to me prep work could have been improved.
Response from Southern Painting Collin County

"Power washing is designed to rinse away dirt on the sub-straight, cob webs wasp nest and such that isn't removed at that time will and has been address during the painting stage other wise if customer wasn't satisfied they d not pay (this customer did pay after the walk through was complete) that's our guarantee."

The final work was fine but they had to come back and fix their initial work. They didn't check to see if the area had completely dried out before starting the work. So they performed the work but a day later, a yellowish stain had developed from moisture. They did come out immediately and fixed this but I felt like this is something they should have been aware of. The patch in the ceiling was so/so - you could tell where they did the patch although I think it is hard to make a patch in the ceiling and it not show.

They were very good, professional, honest and forthright. They were really sharp and were very comprehensive in their approach. They did a superior job. They were little on the expensive side, but they were really good for professional painting job. If I had the money to pay them to get the painting job done right now, then I would probably have selected them. They call the people who come out as sales people, but they are consultants who look over your whole situation. They take care of the measurements and are very thorough. I can?t say enough good things about them. If need be, then I would use their services in the future too.

The experience with them turned out great. We took off and got three bids. They came in and did a good job of painting that. Their price was a little higher but it was worth the price actually because they went far & above than what they would have done normally. We have already used them twice and would use them again if needed. They were outstanding more than what we had expected so we would highly recommend them.

The painters arrived on time and completed work in 2-1/2 hours. However, within two hours after they left, part of the area they repaired began peeling. They came back the next day and scraped a much larger chunk of old acoustic material and then resprayed and repainted. This time everything adhered and the ceiling looks great. This was a challenge because the ceiling is 24 years old. We would have wished they could have gotten it done the first time out, but they were quick to respond and we are satisfied with the results.

Worst painting company in town, I don't know how they are still in business: Their marketing materials state there will be an English speaking foreman on site, we were left with several non-English speakers for a full day. They broke a valance. Prep work wasn't done correctly so the work needed to be redone in less than a year. The painters also cleaned their brushes in my lawn managing to kill a shrub. I contacted them regarding these problems and they didn't care. Follow up: Southern Painting is LYING in their response to my complaint. Their English speaking foreman was NOT PRESENT ON THE JOB SITE FOR A FULL DAY!!! On Day 2, he did leave to go get supplies (leaving me with not English speakers on site), but on Day 1.
Response from Southern Painting Collin County

"THIS IS A SHORT RESPONSE TO THE DEC 28 2008 REPORT FROM THE MEMBER. SOUTHERN PAINTING PROVIDED PAINTING SERVICES FOR HER IN MARCH 2005, AND THEN WAS CALLED BACK IN JULY 2005, FOR ADDITIONAL WORK. SOUTHERN PAINTING WILL ON OCCASION FIND THAT WINDOW VALENCES WHICH ARE CONSTANTLY EXPOSED TO ULTRAVIOLET RAYS WILL BECOME VERY BRITTLE AND WILL CRACK WHEN REMOVED EVEN WITH THE GREATEST CARE. THIS HAPPENED AT THE MEMBER'S RESIDENCE AFTER WHICH SOUTHERN PAINTING OFFERED TO REPLACE THE VALENCE. THE ONSITE MANAGER WHO DOES SPEAK ENGLISH VERY WELL, AND WHO IS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, DID LEAVE THIS PROJECT BRIEFLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROCURING MATERIALS FOR THE JOB. OUR SALES/CUSTOMER SERVICE MANGERS, A SECOND LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT ON SOUTHERN PAINTING JOBS, MET WITH THE ONSITE MANAGER AT THE MEMBER'S RESIDENCE DURING THE COURSE OF THE JOB. WE WERE WATCHING OUT FOR OUR CUSTOMER TO INSURE OUR STANDARDS WERE MET. PREP WORK ON THIS JOB WAS DIFFICULT DUE TO THE APPARENT MOVEMENT THE STRUCTURE SEEMED TO BE EXPERIENCING. ON OUR RETURN AT THE REQUEST OF THIS CUSTOMER THE CRACKS/GAPS CAUSED BY THE HOUSES' MOVEMENT WERE ITEM BY ITEM ADDRESSED TO THE STATED SATISFACTION OF THE HOMEOWNER AT THAT TIME. THE OIL BASE PAINT USED AT THIS JOB WAS PROPERLY CLEANED IN A NON-LEAKING PROPER RECEPTACLE. WATER BASE LATEX MAY HAVE BEEN SPILLED AT THE AREA NEAR THE WATERHOLE OUTSIDE, WHICH WOULD NOT KILL A PLANT, HAVING BEEN IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY FOR MANY YEARS PRIOR TO WORKING WITH SOUTHERN PAINTING, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER ON THIS JOB ASSURES US THE PRODUCTS USED HERE WERE NOT ONES THAT KILL PLANTS, WE MADE EVERY ATTEMPT TO ADDRESS ANY ITEMS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF ANY MEMBER OF THE SOUTHERN PAINTING TEAM."

They did my entire house a few years ago, and they did an amazing job that's why I called them back. The crew was very polite and cleaned up well after themselves. They asked if they could stay later just to get ahead. They worked well with me. I don't think I could of got a better crew. The sales lady is super too.
