"We thank you for the opportunity that you have given us to respond to the member's comments and posting. Please be assured that anytime we deal with a customer, or potential customer, our intent is always to provide the best possible service at the most affordable price. Having said that, I must stress that when we make a conscious effort to meet all of the local, state and national codes, prices may sometimes be driven to a point where the customer may feel that they are excessive. In the case with the member, when they initially called asking for a price to straighten their electrical service pole, a price quote was worked out based on the description that was given by the customer, but upon arriving at the site and seeing that the electrical pole in question was tilted to the point of it being a safety hazard, and that the electrical panel was not up to code for various reasons, a second price quote/option was presented to the customer. The first quote was to straighten the electrical pole and position deep enough in the ground so that it would be secure, however it was explained to the customer that the electrical violations on the existing electrical installation were still a safety hazard and that we strongly recommended updating the electrical pole to meet electrical code. The second price quote submitted was to completely update the electrical service thus bringing it up to code as needed. This second price quote that was given to the customer included a new pole, a new electrical meter enclosure, new electrical panel, and new wiring to the service mast, along with the needed electrical permit and a full 1 year warranty on all parts and labor. When I arrived to speak again to the member in person he was occupied, so he sent his wife to speak to me for approximately 25 minutes. I explained to her in detail what needed to be done and why it was important to bring the electrical service into compliance with state laws and codes. As per city and county officials, as of 8-19-2011 if the work was performed by another electrical company NO permits had been request/pulled by the electrical company doing the work and therefore if the job was done as stated by the member the job may have been performed illegally according to state and local laws. These laws are ultimately set in place not only to protect the homeowner, but also, those around the home in question as well as the power company employees and the actual power grid that may be affected by improper installations and safety hazards. Many efforts were made to explain this to the member and the landlord via phone calls and e-mails. At Mikes Plumbing & Electrical, Inc. we strive to maintain a high service standard for our clients and always preform our jobs up to and above state laws and codes which involves obtaining all the proper permits when necessary, and at times means that we may loose a potential client to other companies that may not enforce these strict standards. I must also say that even though we made trips out to the customer's residence on more than one occasion, we never presented the client any bill or invoice for this time. All our service visits and estimate were at no charge whatsoever to the customer. In all, I hope that if any work was performed for the member, it was done so in a manner that is safe and legal, and is in the best interest of everyone involved, not just the electrician that made the sale in this case."
