I brought my car to this Meineke today for an oil change and a minor repair (replace a power steering hose that I was told had a minor leak during my last oil change at this location). After the mechanic had a chance to inspect my car, the representative informed me that there were several services they recommended for my car. Out of the 5 things he listed, I told him that the last two (replacing spark plugs and getting a fuel system injection) sounded like things I?d had performed on my car pretty recently. I asked him to check my car?s service history with Meineke, and he confirmed that I?d had a fuel system injection done just 5 months ago. He then explained that they?d only suggested that service because my spark plugs were in poor shape. I remained skeptical and told him I wasn?t interested in the suggested services. After returning home, I looked through my car?s service receipts and found that, as I?d suspected, I?d had my spark plugs replaced (by a dealership?s service department, not Meineke, and for $80 cheaper than what Meineke quoted me) in October 2013?so those spark plugs are less than 2 years old. In addition, after I?d left the Meineke and had a chance to take a longer look at my receipt, I discovered that the hose they replaced was not the one they had suggested I replace at my previous visit in December. I called the Meineke to ask about this, and the manager insisted that he?d observed the repair and that the mechanic did replace the correct hose. He did not, however, give any explanation as to why a different hose had been noted as needing replacement in the paperwork from my previous visit. Lastly, before leaving the station, I asked if they could check my battery and tell me how it was doing. The mechanic simply said, ?It?s good.? I found this odd, seeing as how they had mentioned it being low at my previous visit and had recommended then that I replace it soon. Did it miraculously improve on its own? When I reminded them that they?d told me a few months ago that the battery was pretty low, the mechanic claimed that he?d scraped some corrosion off and thought it should be fine for another year. This is definitely the last time I?ll visit a Meineke. They told me multiple contradictory and suspicious things today. I?m sure they don?t bother looking up customers? service histories before recommending procedures, and I strongly suspect they lie to customers to push unnecessary ?repairs.? I would definitely recommend people go somewhere else for their car needs.
