Yes, I know this work was done many years ago but what they did to me deserves a late review. My gas hot water heater began to leak on a Friday evening. So I called to have it replaced on Saturday. I requested an energy efficient heater. The phone call and their arrival went great. The tank was not an energy efficient unit. The installers told me this is the only 50 gallon heater they install. That should have had the alarms clanging? however, I could only think of my Wife taking a cold shower on Sunday before church. Oh, the reason I called Baker Brothers was their advertisement on a Christian radio network. This is not an easy install as the heater goes in the attic. (please, no comments on the location!) The installer made the comment, ?I think I just s****** myself?. His helper saw me and whispered. A few minutes later a comment of relief was uttered. I got the bill and was shocked! I knew they charged extra for a Saturday visit, an emergency call, and for the attic. But seriously! The install would not have been worth about $2500 labor even if it had been installed correctly. I can't tell you how many times I have mentioned Baker Brothers only to have other laugh and ask how much I got stuck for. Ok, I was stupid not to get a quote upfront. Yes, I?m a bit too trusting. About a week later the crew came to replace our roof. Before they began the ?foreman? wanted to do an inspection of the attic. He informed me the exhaust vent was not connected to the heater. Yep, the exhaust went directly into the attic. They replaced an energy efficient tank with a smaller inefficient tank. This meant the exhaust port was about 2? further requiring the vent to be forced into place. The two screws they used were insufficient to hold the vent in place. I ended up having to get larger screws and use a lot of aluminum tape to get the vent to hold in place. You may be wondering why I performed the repairs. That is because Baker Brothers was going to charge me an additional $100 to give me an estimate on how much it was going to cost to fix the problem they created. I declined to ever have them step foot on my property again. About a week later Baker Brothers called to see if I had completed the repairs so they could call the city for an inspection...

I do apologize that you had an issue with your water heater installation, however, we do not have anything in our system for you. I have gone back through all of the 2009 - current databases and we do not have your name or your address in our systems.

The technician Baker sent over (Shawn) was fantastic and he was particularly thorough. He first performed a leak check across our entire system to make sure the only leak was located in the front yard. Once he verified that, he worked throughout the day to ensure we had service back as quickly as possible, even skipping lunch. If at all possible, I highly recommend asking for Shawn if you need any plumbing work done! He's very knowledgeable, incredible work ethic and took very good care of our home and yard. We originally had someone come out from the home warranty service we have who didn't instill much confidence in their ability which is why we called Baker Brothers. This was a daunting task and the holes they had to dig to get the new pipe in were good size but they cleaned it up very nicely and everything looks better than expected.
Description of Work: Repaired a leak between the city water service meter and the check valve leading up to the home. Apparently the builder didn't use quality fittings and after 9 years, it gave way.

In addition to not getting anywhere with this, the technician broke the fence to the back yard by trying to force it open. I would have expected them to at least try to piece it back together or even apologize, but neither happened. I have read all of the other reviews for this company and agree that they could in theory get the job done, but they are VERY EXPENSIVE and might not have your best interests at heart when they are looking at options.
Description of Work: Had a gas leak somewhere in the house. Technician (Michael C) came out and spent a few hours diagnosing and then finding what I told him was the likely culprit in the first place. After the initial $768.38 assessment (which was simply done without asking for permission to go through with the work), the options came back for him to bury a new line to the pool heater (additional $4800), cap it off the pool line (additional $362.72) or what in my view was the simplest repair the leak closest to the heater. Of course the leak could not be found even though that is where the smell was coming from so the only options were to put in a second line or cap it off. At that point, I asked the technician to leave.

Thank you for your feedback. I pulled the work order and I do see where the work order was signed off to approve the work prior to the technician starting the job. I understand from the technician that your daughter is the one that approved the work to start the gas test and location and then he also spoke to you on the phone since you were not present at the home and you approved for him to dig up the riser and test it. Since the City had turned off your gas it is required by the city for us to run a gas test prior to doing any locating or repairs that are necessary. The technician spent approximately 5 hours on the job trying to locate exactly where the leak was coming from. He pressurized the line and listened for a hissing sound, but since the line is buried underground and is approximately 170' long, he could not hear anything. The only way to locate exactly where the leak is, would be to dig up the entire line. He also dug up the riser and tested it to make sure that the leak was not located on the riser. Although we are not the cheapest in town, we are not the most expensive either. We offer a quality service and excellent warranties. All of our technicians are background checked, drug tested, and go through continuous training. As for the fence, he said when he arrived that it looked like a fence panel was missing off of the fence so he never went through it. He said that he was in the front yard and went on the other side of the house where there is not a fence to get to the back yard. I will be happy to send him back out if you would like so that you can show him what it is you are talking about. Please let me know when would be a good time for you.

I had written a prior review a week ago because I was unhappy that I was charged for a component of the service without being consulted about it. However, I received a call on April 29th from Tamara at Baker Brothers informing me that this was against their policy and that they would be refunding me the cost of this part of the service since I was not advised before it was done. As a result, I have updated my review and would would definitely use Baker Brothers again.
Description of Work: The plumber cleared out a back-up in my main sewer line. This included snaking the line, pulling out some roots, and showing me via a camera where there are some breaks in the older part of the line that is under the house.

I called Baker Brothers based on the recommendation from the city employee who came out for a suspected gas leak and was required to turn off my gas. So I was in a bit of a bind because Dallas was having one of its worst extended cold spells, with hi temps in the 20's. The were prompt in arriving and starting to work (within a couple of days) but I was unimpressed with how they tackled the problem. They never found the leak, and after checking for 2 days, they finally said "you should just completely replace all the gas lines under your house. That will cost about $8000." I told them to get out of my house. Their bill for minimal resolution of my problem (the gas stayed turned off) was ridiculous because of the hourly rates and how long the were there doing nothing. I got a recommendation from a friend for another company to come out and find/fix my leak. They arrived in a couple of days with 5 guys, they checked all of the gas lines with a simple soapy water spray bottle with my gas system pressurized, and found 2 leaks which they fixed for a total of about $900. I have nothing good to say about my experience with Baker Brothers. Inept and ridiculously expensive. But boy, their trucks and vans look good.
Description of Work: Checked for a gas leak (they could not find it, or didn't try very hard), "fixed" the valve for the fireplace (I can hardly turn the key now), replaced the valve for the stove. Looked again for the leak, and never found it.

Took pictures of pipes under the house and showed them to us and explained where there was a leak. Fixed leak. A little disappointing, though, that just a little over a month later, we have two leaks under the sink, and it seems that inspection should have caught this and warned us to fix weak pipes. That's part of the reason I gave a B rather than A in quality (+ see below on gas lights). Fixed circulating pump of water heater, which solved the problem of hot water not getting to parts of the house quickly enough. Fixed vent from water heater because upon inspection, the plumber concluded that carbon monoxide was likely leaking into attic (our carbon monoxide alarm in the attic never detected it, but we thought that we did not want to take the risk). I am giving low points on responsiveness and on quality because we had asked the plumber to give us an estimate on fixing two gas lights outside the house. More than a month later, he had not called us. I called back, and he could not give us an estimate because he had not taken down the name of the brand of the gas lights (just took a picture), and suppliers could not identify the lights. Now we have to call someone else for this.
Description of Work: Performed inspection, fixed pipe leak, circulating pump of gas water heater, water heater vents. Failed to provide estimate for fixing gas lights.

Mike arrived on time. We had to pay a $99 Saturday charge. Our wax seal was leaking on the old stool. To replace the wax seal was over $250 and Mike said the flapper needed replacing which was going to be another $150 plus, so we decided to go with a whole new stool for $650. The new stool was a Kohler Cimmaron water saver with comfort seating. The stool is nice but it came with a CHEAP plastic seat which I really, really hate. It seems to me that for that price it should have come with a wooden seat. It doesn't seem like it gets done flushing when it starts refilling, but I guess that is the water saving (1.6 gallon per flush) feature. Mike stated it would flush 18 golf balls, but I put 8 miniature Tootsie Roll wrappers in it and flushed the stool and it only flushed 5 down the drain.

Took all day. Did not believe me about where the drain line was and how it was handled a decade earlier. Even though I repeatedly told the young man exactly how and where the drain from the house to the alley had been cleaned out before, he could not locate it with the camera. Eventually he removed the toilet and reamed out the drain. The last time we had this done it lasted 10 years. With Baker Bros., the fix lasted less than a month and we have another plumber coming today to "fix" the problem again. Doesn't feel worth a phone call. Though the young man was polite and tenacious, I had to call the office for him to get assistance, and the man on the phone simply said we really should pay the $1500 to have traps put in the backyard. They sent another plumber who lectured us, finally found the drain exactly where I told them it was. We will not use them again.

Thank you for your feedback. I spoke to the manager and the technician this morning and was told that they were unable to use the roof vent due to the remodel. When they ran the camera down the back vent as instructed by the homeowner, it would come up in the remodeled toilet. When they ran the camera down the other vent, it showed up in the other toilet. The other company was able to unstop from the roof vent 10 years ago because it was prior to the remodel. The technician went under the home and found where the remodeled sewer line was and that's when the tech decided to pull the commode and unstop the line from there. If the homeowner was still having an issue with the sewer lines, we would have been happy to get a technician out there at no charge. We did give them a 30 day warranty on the stoppage and this fell within the warranty period.

Chuck was the representative that came to my house. I asked if he was a licensed plumber. He responded that he just reads about it. I believe he was joking? The cost seemed extremely high. They quoted me $705.96 to fix the shut off valve in my front yard. Chuck anticipated about one hour of work. When asked why so expensive, Chuck responded for the expertise. I decided against using the services at this rate.

This repair with the clamp worked for 3 weeks when the leak became worse. The plumber felt these transitions were not meant to hold well under such pressure. The original joint had lasted since 1973 when pool was installed. I had it at this point the pool repair companies claim their plumbers and staff are not trained to sweat copper joints, and plumbing companies do not want to repair swimming pools. Last resort I called Baker Brothers plumbing and they did work on pools with copper joints. After a quick inspection he removed the new clamp and showed me the area where the original repair had taken place that there was an area after the copper had been cut before there was a split in the copper that was by the pvc clamp. It had not been pushed far enough down on the copper pipe. Baker brothers felt for a better fit they were going to remove a 90 degree in copper pipe the reattach the clap. It has worked fine now since July 11. I had called no less than 10 pool people and 5 plumbers on the first set of calls. I saw Baker Bothers on TV and thats the only call I made.
Description of Work: Cut the 1 1/2" copper line that feeds swimming pool inlets. There was to be a transition of 1 1/2" pvc to the copper. there was a pvc compression clap that was to attach to the copper line.

Showed up on time, checked our leak under the sink and showed me exactly where the leak was coming from, our disposal. He told us how much it would cost and we approved it. He replaced our disposal with a new one and explained how to better use the disposal. On a separate occaision he came out, examined our outside leaking hose bib. He explained what he was going to do and got our approval to go ahead with the work. No surprises. Good job both times.

Very well. He had to clear the "trap" outside. But he also put a camera down in the pipe to check under house plumbing. Gave advice and estimate on longer term fix which would entail cleaning out that pipe but i declined. He also suggested a maintenance program for a monthly fee but I declined that too. He advised on the long term damage these "Drano" type products can cause on old pipe. I appreciated that. So here is my reason for high marks on what was probably a very simple call: 1) I called at 3:30pm and he was there about an hour later! Maybe I caught them on a slow day or maybe its because i pirchased their "family plan" last time (details below) but either way that was impressive. Compare that to cable, phone, elec co, etc. 2) Although the list "up sells" above *can* be a negative if given as a hard sell, he presented them as ideas and did not push me. That makes all the difference in the world - especially because its easy to tell I'm no handyman - I'm in IT :). In fact BBP was out last month and I purchased their "family plan" because it made sense for me and its practically paid for itself. It may also be why I got quick response. In any case, its been good. I don't remember exact cost but it was not expensive.

Terrible - very unprofessional . He did not even check to be sure he unclogged the areas I called them about. I should have made him do a walk around with me before I wrote the check. Unfortunately plumbing issues seem to occur when you are busy with many other things. As soon as I wrote the check I went to my other bathroom to realize he had just transferred one stopped up area to another and now my sinks wouldn't drain. It was actually so soon I tried to run out the door to catch him before he left. Already driving down the street . When I called the office they gave me his number . I called him and he told me this was a separate issue and would cost another $270.00 . When he came to accept the job he did not say they were separate . He made it sound like it would take care of this side of the house when he quoted me. The only thing he did well was beat everybody on responding to my call.
