I had a hole in a wall approximately 1.5 X 3 feet. The guy (Jerry Crenshaw) that came out and did the estimate was very nice and very professional. He was very prompt, showing up when scheduled and spent a very acceptable amount of time looking at the area to be repaired and getting an understanding of what I wanted done. He put together 2 estimates for the repair; one with just the repair to the wall and one with repair to the wall and painting the wall. I decided to have only the hole repaired as I was not sure what colored I wanted the wall and thought it might be fun to do myself. The guy that actually did the work was anything but professional. He showed up late and then spent the first hour he was here trying to figure out where he put his tools for the job. Apparently he had just purchased them at the hardware store and they didn't make it into his truck. The job took him about 6 hours to cut the hole and even out the edges, hammer in two small pieces of drywall, tape and float, and then apply the texture. He spent most of the time running in and out of the house to smoke (throwing his butts on the ground outside my house; I picked up 13), making calls on his cell phone, and complaining to me about his life. He actually started out the day trying to flirt with me and asking if I was single. When it came to the repair, he used 2 small pieces of sheetrock to fix the hole instead of 1. They did not go together well and as a result I have ripples in the wall where they did the repair. I will admit he did a good job matching the texture on the wall. When he was done he picked up most of his stuff and left. I had to clean up the items he left behind, including his coat. I also had to clean up the floor and baseboard around where he had been working. I am really not sure what the drop cloth caught because it was a huge mess. This is where Jerry fell short. Jerry came back out to speak to me about the job their contractor did and I showed him the work. I let him know that I was not happy with the warped look of the wall. Jerry told me when it dried it wouldn't be like that anymore. When I asked why they did it like that he said the two smaller pieces of drywall fit in the contractor's truck better. So Jerry knew how the repair was going to be done but failed to inform me. I should have thrown a fit and had it redone but honestly it is so bad I would not have wanted them to touch my house again. I am just glad I opted not to have them paint the wall, too. I will definitely look for someone else for any future work I need done.

Response from FIRST GENERAL SVC OF NE TEXAS
First, I would like to say that I think this is a great website, and I think it can be a very useful tool for homeowners to look at when picking a contractor to do work for them. From my perspective, as a contractor I really enjoy the fact that the website gives me a chance to respond to a negative review. Our company has been a part of the Better Business Bureau since 1991, receiving their Gold Star Award this past April. We do major/minor insurance restoration and remodel work, covering 12 counties in the East Texas area. We PRIDE ourselves on good work, and customer service. We are aware that the subcontractor described in the member's comments has some issues with professionalism, and we have taken the proper steps to remedy that situation. One of the biggest challenges as a general contractor is finding professional help that is skilled at their craft, but also presentable to homeowners. We strive every day to find more subcontractors that do good work, and also treat homeowners and their homes with respect. I feel like we have a good assortment of employees and subcontractors that we are using right now; I have pages of references, past clients we did work for before this repair and after, that would agree. This review is the worst news this company has gotten in a long time. We work very hard to please our customers, and a review like this is the last thing we want. Anyone that is familiar with drywall patches know's it's not an exact science, and when the patch is wet, it's hard to tell how it will look when it dries. I gave the homeowner my honest opinion, and at no time did she express any displeasure. Instead, she waited several months later and trashed my company on the internet. When the patch dried, if she was not pleased with the final result she should have called me and let me know. She could have told me about the lack of professionalism from the subcontractor I used, and I would have sent someone else to her house to redo the patch for free. If she was not comfortable with that I would have given her a refund for the full amount! We would have done whatever it took to make the situation right, but we were never given that chance. Construction is an imperfect process done by imperfect people. Things aren't always gonna turn out the way they should, and when they don't we ALWAYS step up and do whatever necessary to make the situation right. If the homeowner felt this strongly and took the time to write this lengthy review, I think she should have taken the time to let us know, and given us a chance to make things right before she trashes our good name on the internet.
