+ -1 moreThe job started one week late. Communication was poor. I was not able to talk to the manager. Knowledge of the process in working with City and CenterPoint not good. An old circuit breaker was reused resulting in stove not being used for four days. Had to call another company to replace breaker.
Description of Work: Changed out two electrical panels and rerouted overhead lines between house and garage underground.

+ 0 moreI called Rulon Electric on the recommendation of a top notch interior designer. I made the appointment - they said they came and left a card in the door. There was no card in the door and we were home waiting for them. I was stood up four times and cancellations were made at the last minute three times. We cancelled in advance two other times. The last time we made an appointment it was scheduled for 11:00 am. At 12:15 pm we called the office and were told it wasn't even on his schedule! I told the person who answered (she was different than the one I had previously contacted) and she told me that "they encourage Mr. Rozell to keep his appointment so we do not get phone calls like yours, but we are only his employees." I was told this happens often. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. They are obviously too busy to come to a home in the Galleria for work!
Description of Work: No work was performed. They NEVER showed up for their original appointment to give an estimate.

The technician called and made certain they knew the color of the switch and the type so they would have all the correct parts. They were prompt, friendly and provided me with a quote for additional work that will be mailed once the office prices it out.
Description of Work: Tested and replaced a light switch with a dimmer switch.

+ 1 moreThey were fast, competent and great to work with. All work was done correctly and to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Our electrical service went down due to a short during a very cold period. Our office was without power to heat the building or run our business. Jimmy and his guys were out there that day to see what they could do and give me a cost. I approved the cost and they took it from there. They worked with the City to pull permits and ordered parts. Everything was done professionally and in the most expeditious manner. The entire service was back up in three days. They got us a generator during those three days so we were only without power for half of a day. They did a great job.

+ -1 moreThey were very professional and on time and very efficient. They charged us a trip fee that I was unaware of, but they credited that to us with no argument, but reminded me for future that there is always a trip fee, so make note of that.
Description of Work: Rulon came out while we were doing a bathroom remodel. They installed two brand new light socket/fixtures, a vent and light combo, a new electrical outlet with additional outlets, and changed out two fans and installed a light in our kitchen.

When we tried to call them back to question the estimate, they never returned our phone call and the estimate was almost four times what we are going to end up spending on a generator now. It was so over-the-top ridiculous I do not know what they were thinking. We also asked them to fix the kitchen light and that did not last very long. I would never, ever call them again.
Description of Work: I called Rulon to get an estimate on fitting in a generator on our garage apartment.

+ -1 moreI called to make an appointment and they agreed to come the next day. They called when en route and arrived on time. They were professional and completed the work in 2-3 hours. The lights have been functioning great for the past 2 months. I would definately use them again.
Description of Work: They replaced 2 pendulum lights in my kitchen and 1 recessed can light as well as took down a ceiling fan and installed a single light.

+ -1 moreOverall this was a nightmare, I would like to warn people not to ever use their services, unless they want to end up like me with no services performed and no money on top of being treated so badly.
Description of Work: I contacted Rulon Electric for an estimate to change the electrical panel on my house. Their estimator came out, agreed to let me purchase the panel and breakers I needed, and they would provide the work and the rest of the materials. They estimated the cost for around $1,400. I called to tell them I wanted them to come out. They wrote a contract, mailed it to me and I went and purchased the panel and breakers according to the list the estimator gave me. When I had all the materials on the list, I called them, I was charged for half of the amount (around $700) and I was told an electrician would come the next morning. He did come and was surprized I only had the panel and breakers. He said he was told I would provide ALL materials. I showed him the contract and the list I had from their estimator and how I had purchased everything we all agreed I needed to purchase. I then called the office and the Mrs. Mary I had been dealing with turned into a monster. She was very rude, told me to get in the car and get the rest of the materials. I told her that's not we had agreed on, and even if I wanted to do that I could not because I have a newborn and an 18 mo old to take care of. She said it was not her fault I had 2 children and hung up on me. I called back and was told I would be charged $200 more for the rest of the materialsm, and she refused to put a supervisor on the phone, she said they are all busy all the time, and there was not good time for me to call back to talk to one. I did call back and the office manager answered who told me to find myself another electrician and she hung up on me too. THEY STILL HAVE MY $700 AND REFUSE TO PAY IT BACK, I FILED A DISPUTE WITH MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY TO TRY TO GET THE MONEY BACK.

+ 0 moreOverall it went well. They came the day after my call (Dec 24th) and did the work. The problem came in the billing. They did not explain that they would charge for travel time from their office and I thought it took less time than they did. If you do use them, ask questions up front about time, especially travel time.
Description of Work: Three of 9 recessed lights were out and needed new wiring and connection plates. Rulon assessed job, went to store to buy the parts and installed successfully.

Description of Work: I needed to replace my attic fans and Rulon Electric Company did the labor after I purchased the fans. Their charge was $92 per hour. The job took about 4 hours.

+ -1 moreI tried to do the work myself and I would have never got it up there like they did. They did an awesome job. It was a tricky and a difficult job but they got it up with no trouble. It only took two and a half hours to complete. We paid the ninety dollars per hour.

+ -1 moreIt was a difficult problem and it took them a second time to come out to fix it. When they came out the second time they fixed it with no service call charge. They were very satisfactorily and professional. I really liked the guys who came out to do the work.
Description of Work: I have a socket on the outside of my house that was shorting out when it rained. It was in a brick wall enclosure.

Dennis and Thomas were both courteous and efficient. They completed the work in 1 hour. Cleaned up after the job was completed. Overall, I would hire then again for any electrical repair.

+ 0 moreJust as with an earlier report, I had also called a ''popular'' Angies List vendor, but was given a date two weeks out. I am very glad that happened, as Rulon was a wonderful choice. Rulon sent someone out the next day, and the work was excellent. James was polite, punctual, professional, efficient. He checked out the first mercury vapor lamp, and it required only a little tweaking. We had added jobs to the original requests, so shouldn't really be surprised at the final cost. James cleaned up after himself. I will be using this company again, and plan to install new chandeliers and dimmers in the next month or so.
Description of Work: This price may seem a little high, but the electricians were with us 1 1/3 days. Inspect and repair two mercury vapor lamps (one actually required replacement). Remove old outdoor pendant lamp and install new outdoor pendant lamp. Remove old ceiling fan and install new ceiling fan. Remove ceiling ''light bub'' and install new pendant fixture. Move light switch down two feet. Move electric outlet down two feet toward baseboard. Remove exhaust fan and motor, cap off power. Replace double dimmer switch. Price is for labor and all parts other than pendant lamps and ceiling fan.

+ -1 moreI called another electric company on the list with more feedback on Monday morning, August 7. Their first available appointment was August 21. I called Rulon next, because of the combination of excellent feedback and proximity to my home. Based on my description of the problem they suggested that they might be able to fit me that afternoon but promised an appointment on Tuesday. The technicians, Don and Jeremy, arrived at approximately 2PM on Tuesday. I explained the problem, showed them the room, and the main breaker box. They inspected the breaker box, located the problem, and preformed the repair in less than 15 minutes. Both techs were efficient and polite. They explained the source of my problem and patiently answered all of my questions. Overall, it was a great experience. Thanks Rulon Electric!
Description of Work: The lights and outlets in my master bedroom flickered and went out early Sunday evening, August 6. The lights came back on in less than an minute before I could make it to the breaker box...so I did nothing. On Monday morning, the lights went out again, but did not come back on when I flipped the breaker switch. The technicians found and repaired a loose neutral wire (the outer plastic coating completely burned off and the wire almost burned through) in the main breaker panel.

+ -1 moreI had called another company on the A List but they could not send anyone for a week. Since I was brushing my teeth by candlelight I called Rulon. They sent someone out to assess the problem within an hour. They scheduled me for two days later but I got a call first thing the next morning that there was an opening. The electrician and a helper came and rewired the circuit. They were clean, prompt reasonable and thorough. This was not an easy-to-diagnose problem and they were here for a few hours but they fixed it without going through any drywall or needing parts.
Description of Work: I had a wiring problem. The main GFI plug and lightswitch in the master bathroom was out, along with the lights in the bedroom and the other bathroom. My entire circuit was out. Another issue is that I have a flat roof, and the wiring runs along in other places. They re-wired the existing circuit that had been altered by a previous homeowner.

+ -1 moreI was nervous about this job because it involved bringing the electric line through the brick exterior of my house, but these men definitely knew what they were doing. The box looks as if it has always been there. Also, I had just had extensive landscaping done which they had to go under and around. I was certain I'd have to recall the landscapers to put things back together, but the electricians were extremely careful and left everything looking as it had been before they arrived. The only problem I had was that, for some strange reason, they installed an electric box by the fountain that had no outlets for plugs--it was just a flat plate--so I had to call them back to replace that.
Description of Work: Rulon had to install an outdoor electric line, so I could hook up a fountain. This required drilling through the brick of my house, digging the line under a metal-lined gravel walk, and running it along a fence.
