Contractor rep made a presentation for installation of a standby generator system, but provided NOTHING in writing. After concluding, he wanted to proceed to our signing a contract and writing a check. When asked for some written specifics, e.g., a written proposal, the rep with obvious displeasure pulled out a form on which he scribbled a couple of "extras" which would b e included and a flat price for each of 3 levels of protection. We told him we would discuss the proposal and probably have some questions for him. He gave us his business card, said do that, and hit the road. The very next day (Tues) we sent him an email  to the address on his card. We said we thought we would make a decision by Fri but had a few questions which we listed. Thirty three days went by before we heard from him and then it was not in response to our email or questions. I read the questions over the phone to him, and he later answered a few of them in an email. Although he promised on more than one occasion to send us the names of a couple of customers in our area to whom we could talk, we have never received them. We copied the owner on an email in which we pointed out the rep's failure to respond to us. Obviously, he doesn't care as we never heard from him, and the rep's emails turned very sarcastic after that. In sum a terrible experience. We have gotten a very complete written proposal from another contractor, accepted it, had the unit installed, experienced it responding perfectly to a short power outage recently, and all for $1000 less than Quality!

Even though there is no disclaimer on either their web page, nor their Angie's list listing, Quality Generators refuses to install a generator that they don't sell to you.  It is not because it is a brand they are unfamiliar with.  They indicated that they were authorized and did install Generac's (my model, purchase from Lowes at quite a good price).  But they only offer "turn key" solutions.
I would be quite wary.  In my past experience, company's that insist on selling you the equipment as well as the service, and will not provide the service separately, are basing their financial model on some sort of deal with the equipment manufacturer.  In other words, you're not getting as good a deal from them as you could.  Of course, I have no actual knowledge of this in this case, but my suspicions have been highly aroused, and I would advice fellow Angie's listers to carefully review their options when dealing with Quality Generators.

I received estimates from 3 contractors for the installation of a backup generator at my home.Quality Generators provided a much more estimate of the work to be done.Quality Generator also informed me of the Centerpoint Energy easement that neither of the other 2 contractors mentioned it all.
After a delay of 4 months waiting in approval from the HOA . Quality Generator installed and connected the backup generator on the days they scheduled the work to be done. The work was much more complicated that I thought .The simplest part of the installation was the placement of the generator itself on a concrete slab they poured. Then came the plumbing and the coordinating with Centerpoint all that was involved with the natural gas lines. Then the electrical installation and the hook ups and coordinating the the connection with TXU Energy.
They were very professional and the project was completed on time as scheduled. I was impressed with the job Quality Generator did at my home and my neighbors are very curious about the genarator. I would refer Quality Generator to any interested persons.

The whole installation process went great. Everyone arrived at the stated time and all work was done in a timely manner. We were shown how to operate and maintain the unit. When both the plumber and electrician left the job site there was no additional clean up work required by us.

I have an unusual house with no gas and it's expensive when I got to pay. It has everything running in my whole house if the electricity goes off. I would be paying $2400 with my gas because I have an all electric house. I've got an unusual thing here. He's a person that does not lie to me or anything. He's very truthful.

The job was done in a very prompt and professional manner and they took care of everything. The office personnel was very helpful with any questions and paperwork. The workmen were on time, professional and cleaned up. They are a wonderful company and notified us when to be home, everything was done on time and they now still come out to check our generator. The generator is working wonderfully and comes on automatically for a test run each week for 13 minutes. We cannot praise this company enough. We highly recommend them to anyone wanting a home generator.

6/11/13 Mike Crowl came out for evaluation. He was very knowledgeable. All the other venters wanted to sell me 20kw (I had talked to my Father who has had 2 Generators at different houses and thought that was way too much) He was the first one who said all I needed based on size of house 2,000 sq ft. and all gas appliances 17kw. He also said Centerpoint was offering $500.00 discount which he would add in the contract. No other vendor (I had 3 other estimates offered that information) I called my father in front of Mike and he supported 17Kw would be appropriate for my house. Based on Angie's List Reviews at the time I research, offering more appropriate size, and Centerpoint discount. I chose to go with this company. They contracts were signed on an iPad, and the emailed contracts were vague and fairly empty. The location of generator map empty, all contract said 17kw generator. Mike said the installation would be 4-6 weeks.
I actually had the concert pad set and poured the very next week before I could get the document in the contract as to where the pad would go. Verbally I knew, but I felt uncomfortable with nothing in writing. I had talked to Mike and he said they were having problems with the program.
I also wanted the model number of the Generator, since Generac had several choices. I verbally talked to someone in Quality Generators, but never could get in in writing, I talked about different options, but they put in what they put in. I really would have liked a more detailed with model number on the contract like the other vendors offerred. I feel like their contracts are weak.
When the team came out to install gas line, they accidentally broke a water pipe, but the plummer fix it that day. I found out from my 17 y.o. daughter several hours into the situation instead of someone from the team letting me know.
Sunshine who works with you, as to coordination of the project was Great!! She was able to coordinate Centerpoint to come out to my house on friday 6/28/13 (My 21 y.o. daughter only home from work Monday and Fridays, I work M-F and could not be home 4:30pm) for inspection. She then coordinated with her team to install all electrical components Monday 7/1/13. At around 5:15pm I had a gentleman review, the system, how it works, where to put oil, change filter. He then had my complete payment sign off everything, with the electrical ditch still open. He said he would come 7/2/13 and fill it in. No one came on 7/2/13 or 7/3/13 after contacting Sunshine. The inspector came out on friday 7/5/13 before electrical ditch was filled in. Basically I had an open ditch Monday-Friday in my yard.
The side of the house with the gas line, and water pipe was broken is remaining moist. I call Sunshine and she does have plumbers come out to inspect it. (7/8/13) I was informed that is is the low level ground settling and run off from my roof. I have always had run off, but would be dry by lunch, never saw moisture in that area from run off in the afternoon.
If you call for any concerns Sunshine does actively send a representative out to address your concerns. I am still monitoring that area, also they put the dirt from the gas ditch against the side of my house, left the dirt on the house which the gentelman from 7/1/13 said he would clean 7/2/13, but since he never came out when they colsed the electrical ditch that team must not have know my concern. A representative, Dakota came out 7/10/13 to level dirt, and clean house. It is still showing on the brick where the dirt was, Sunshine said someone would come out to work on it again

They are excellent. They explained everything beautifully. When they worked they cleaned up any mess they made. When I have a question I call and get an answer immediately. The price was very reasonable. I was very very pleased with them. I would recommend them.

Everything was handled well. They came out, did the survey, put in the cement block that it had to sit on, and then they came in the next day and installed the generator. It was all set up in two to three days. We didn't have any issues with the installation that I remember. We have lost power here couple of times and the generator has been wonderful. I work out of my house so I have been able to work when the power goes out. You have to change oil once a year or every so many hours, and you can do it yourself but I have them come out and do the service, which is high and expensive but I am not very good with mechanics. If you are mechanically inclined, you can do it. They come out twice a year and the cost is like $350. First six months they come out and run it to check things and come back in six more months and change the oil and change the battery. I think that it worth it. I have been very pleased with them. As far as comparison-shopping, they are in line with anybody I talked to. I was originally thinking about giving earlier this year and I called them to find out if the services that I bought here for this generator would transfer to the person who bought this house and they said they don't transfer. They said what they would do for me is that if I am purchasing a new generator they would still honor the service contract, which I thought was really good.

EXCELLENT! There is a veritable ballet of services that goes on in order to get the installation done .. HOA approval, permitting, updating your gas meter, pouring the slab etc. etc. etc. and they coordinate ALL Of this expertly. Sunshine was my installation contact coordinator and she is superb in making sure everything is scheduled convenient to me and then following up to be sure it was done correctly. Each set of folks who showed up onsite during the various stages of this project were on time, very professional and very customer oriented. The two guys who trenched the new pipeing to the unit had to go under a gate in my wood fence and under flagstones in the ground. They pried each flagstone up , set it aside and put everything back ( better) than they found it . They carefully replaced the dug-up sod so it could take hold again. They cleaned up, sweeped up and even took the time to tighten up my gate hinge in my fence. I am one happy camper.

I don't really remember how much we spent, but both of them were incredibly competitive. A generator is expensive but it was well worth it. They handled everything, messing with inspectors and messing with all the permits. We were happy with the things they did and that was really nice. We were checking on water heaters and we got several quotes from people and then happened to get a follow-up from them and it mentioned that they did water heaters also so I called them. Their bid was actually less than everybody else. I know it was less but I don't remember how much. They had to redo some gas line to make it the right size for it. I think it was $1200.00. It was cheaper than anybody else that we had talked to. We had experience with them before so we were more than happy to go back with them even if it cost us a little bit more. They were really good. I would highly recommend them. They were very competitive on their pricing. The salesman for the generator was very, very knowledgeable. He took his time and went over everything real, real carefully to make sure he had everything right and handled exactly what we needed. We didn't buy a generator that was bigger than what we needed or too small. He made sure that we got what we needed.

I called several companies for estimates on whole-house generators and choose Quality because they had the best deal at the time. I was happy with their work for the most part, except that they badly misstated the time it would take to complete the job. The contract was signed on July 26 and they didn't finish until September, almost three times the estimated completion schedule. I was generally happy with their work after it was finally finished. Only issue I had was the plumbers - they couldn't seem to dig in a straight line. Their electricians were excellent. The contract included a maintenance contract and they came out twice since to service it (changed oil, check elec). Now a year and half out it's still running fine. I actually had it come on for an outage and all went well. It has a self-test schedule of once a week for 20 minutes. I would recommend the company, but be prepared for delays in installation. Oddly, their sales department kept calling me for months seeking a sales appointment after I bought the unit.

The salesman that came out was extremely knowledgeable. His level of expertise gave us confidence that they were the company for the job. We were told that the job would be complete in about 4 to 6 weeks. It took 8 to 10 weeks. The permit took two weeks instead of one. They installed the reinforcing for the pad and waited a week to pour it even though the inspection was done the next day. The gas line was installed and green tagged by the inspector the next day then the ditch sat open for 2 weeks waiting on the gas regulator to be installed. We had to call to find out what was happening. I work construction so I understand delays, but what bothered us was the lack of communication. No one called to tell us they were waiting on Center Point or the inspector or when we could expect them back. The workmanship is very good but the management of the project just ruined the whole experience. If they would have kept us informed instead of in the dark we would have been less upset.
Then to top it off we had a service issue just recently. I contacted the 1-800 service number and got message gave the impression that if the power wasn't out don't bother to leave a message call during regular business hours. I called the next day and talked with the service representative and got a request for more information. I called back that night and left here a message on her voice mail as instructed and waited. Two days later I had to call them back. It turned out the service representative was in the hospital and there was no one to back her up. Finally she had to call from her sick bed and was understandably gruff and unprofessional. The issue had been schedule to be repaired the next day but again no call.
We chose this company over the one that was much closer to the where we live because they had been in business longer and the salesman said that they had a great working relationship with Center Point so we wouldn't see delays like ones we had. Also we thought they were professional organization that wouldn't fall apart when one person called in sick. Over all the workmanship of the final product was good and the workman were professional and friendly but the lack of communication was what ruined the experience for us.
